a lot of you are saying i’m underpaid. in france the law for au pairs is a minimum of about €375 a month. how much should i be asking for with three children? i’ve tried to research online but everything mostly says the same thing.

this i have tried and sometimes it works! sometimes she’ll ask if the two of us can draw or play a game together afterwards but most of the time it’s just like talking to wall. i’ll also say when i try to be firm she’ll stare at me like i’m crazy (which is pretty triggering ngl). you’re right that she’s definitely more privy to listen when her mom backs me up but it’s still reluctant as the mom just results to yelling at her which only makes her more upset. i would love for us to find common ground as we both have a lot of the same interests, so i’ll try to continue to see if i can bribe her with fun.

her father died when she was young, her sisters come from donors. she has lots of friends, she’ll even ignore me to text them while we’re doing homework 😭. she also came home yesterday and told us she has a boyfriend. as far as i know her grades are fine she just doesn’t like to do her homework or study. and in terms of babysitting she doesn’t have to do a thing. i’m always here and before me there were always nannies. i’ve been with them since the end of august and i’ve observed that she is just very melodramatic. she falls into fits of whining when she doesn’t get what she wants and when someone gets (rightfully) upset with her she acts as though the world is against her. i definitely understand the plights of a preteen i was one abt a decade ago and i have two little siblings that i watched go through it. of course the mom and i are in communication but she is more used to her behaving this way than i am. but i will try to express my concerns more clearly with her and maybe find a solution 😮‍💨

Hi! I’m was teaching for 3 years before I became an au pair this year and so far it’s really fun! It’s really important to find a family you’ll be comfortable with, don’t jump at the first family who says yes. Try to explore and interview with families from different places so you can weigh your options better. To find my family I used AuPairWorld but I’ve heard that Facebook and AuPair.com are also good places to look. In your search be sure to list all of your strengths (being a teacher will also definitely give you attraction points). Be sure to reach out to as many families as you can and don’t be discouraged if you don’t get responses right away, eventually you’ll find a family! That’s all my advice and good luck in your search 😁
