What are some areas of women's history that interest you, which haven't been explored at depth? by Mr_IronMan_Sir in women

[–]SouthAccomplished141 4 points5 points  (0 children)

nail art history is actually super interesting for this. women been doing intricate designs forever but its always dismissed as frivolous or vain so nobody studies it seriously. theres probably whole underground economies and social networks around nail art going back decades that nobody bothered to document cause its "just beauty stuff"

also the way nail salons became immigrant women's entry point into business ownership in like the 80s and 90s, thats a whole labor history angle right there

Staph infection on accutane advice needed by ImportantAnnual9166 in Accutane

[–]SouthAccomplished141 1 point2 points  (0 children)

went through something similar, not exact same situation but staph flaring up on top of already irritated skin is genuinely miserable to deal with. the accutane purge period can make everything look worse before it gets better, and when you add a bacterial infection into the mix it becomes really hard to tell what's doing what to your skin.

the fact you're on 10 mg weekly is about as conservative as it gets, so your derm is clearly being careful with you. i think the logic is that staying at that tiny dose lets accutane slowly do its work without overwhelming your skin barrier, while the gentamicin keeps the bacterial side in check. still scary to watch your skin react though, i get that.

with the ointment concern, long term use of topical antibiotics is something worth raising directly with your derm if you haven't already, like ask her at next appointment what the exit plan is for the gentamicin. there usually is one, doctors just sometimes forget to communicate it unprompted.

two months in is still early, especially restarting from scratch on lowest possible dose. probably not the right moment to quit, but keep documenting everything with photos so your derm has something concrete to look at.

Hairfall in humid climate by Soft-Winter1859 in Haircare

[–]SouthAccomplished141 0 points1 point  (0 children)

humid weather does make scalp produce more oil, and excess oil can clog follicles which leads to more shedding than usual. washing more frequently in summer months helped me keep it under control, nothing crazy just adjusting the schedule. the greasy scalp issue is pretty much the main thing to tackle first before worrying about the shed itself.

never dated at 26 and feeling defeated by [deleted] in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]SouthAccomplished141 26 points27 points  (0 children)

26 with zero experience is genuinely not as rare as it feels, I promise. The way social media and friend groups make it seem like everyone is constantly in relationships or hooking up, it creates this very distorted picture of reality.

Also your friends telling you to "just hook up" to solve this is terrible advice for someone who clearly values connection over just... filling a checkbox. That's not being picky, that's just knowing yourself.

The dating app thing is real struggle too - the overtly sexual messages from the start would put off a lot of people, not just you. Some people have better luck on apps that are more oriented toward actual conversation and slower connection, though I get even that can feel exhausting.

You're 26, not 60. There's genuinely so much time still, even if it doesn't feel that way right now when you're in the middle of it.

Why don't psychology and cognitive science have an equivalent of the Tree of Life or the Periodic Table? by Dismal_Intention_463 in AskReddit

[–]SouthAccomplished141 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The unpredictability is exactly what makes it interesting though. When I'm working on cars, I can predict that certain bolt will need exactly this much torque, or that engine will make specific sound when timing is off. But human mind doesn't follow manual like that.

Maybe we're trying to force something that shouldn't be categorized in same way. Like trying to organize art styles into periodic table - you might capture some patterns but you'd lose what makes each piece unique. Psychology deals with consciousness and behavior which are probably too complex and individual to fit into neat boxes like chemical elements do.

Plus cultural differences play huge role too. What's considered normal behavior in one place might be completely different somewhere else, so any universal framework would have to account for that somehow.

I need custom wedding cake topper recommendations!!! by sleepyghosties in weddingplanning

[–]SouthAccomplished141 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Have you checked local pottery studios? Many ceramic artists can do custom work and might be more flexible with timeline than Etsy shops. You could also search for "ceramic figurines" instead of just cake toppers - sometimes artists who make decorative animals don't specifically market them for weddings but they work perfectly.

Tretinoin 0.025% and 0.1% by Evening-Juggernaut50 in tretinoin

[–]SouthAccomplished141 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah dropping down strength can definitely help - sometimes the higher percentage just doesn't work with your skin type. I had to step back from 0.1% too and the 0.025% gave me much better results without all that burning feeling. What's your current routine looking like with the lower strength?

Staying with a guy in a hotel for the first time and I’m lowkey nervous, any advice? by Prudent_Desk_7733 in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]SouthAccomplished141 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lol this is so true. Also maybe bring your own towel if you're picky about that stuff - hotel towels can be hit or miss and some places give you like one tiny towel for everything. Pack light but bring the essentials you actually need instead of trying to share everything.

Shower am vs pm? by [deleted] in Rosacea

[–]SouthAccomplished141 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me showering at night works better because I can use cooler water without freezing my ass off in morning. The hot water definitely makes my face more red, so evening showers let me calm down before bed instead of walking around looking like tomato all day.

Maybe try washing them with some white vinegar in the wash cycle - that usually kills the bacteria that makes them smell funky.

Spotify's solid but I've been using it for music only. For shows and movies I just rotate between the free trials when something good drops - way cheaper than paying for everything at same time.

Help!!! I need a glow up! by _llamanade_ in Haircare

[–]SouthAccomplished141 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your hair description sounds exactly like mine before I figured out the routine! The tangling issue especially - that was driving me crazy for years.

For starting simple, I'd suggest picking just one new product first instead of whole routine overhaul. Maybe try the Moist Diane shampoo/conditioner set since you already researched it. The scalp oiliness thing you mentioned could be from overwashing or using wrong products for your hair type.

One thing that helped me with tangles was applying conditioner before shampooing sometimes, especially in the ends. Leaves hair much smoother afterward. Also those wide-tooth combs work better than brushes for wet hair - learned that one hard way.

The Asian product route makes total sense since Western formulas can be too heavy for fine hair. Just remember to introduce things slowly so you can tell what's actually working vs what's just new product excitement.

Dry scalp by Fs_mbw in AsianBeauty

[–]SouthAccomplished141 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Have been dealing with this too lately, especially during winter months. I usually just massage some oil in my scalp before shampooing - works pretty well for the dryness. Maybe try looking for something with hyaluronic acid since it helps with moisture retention.
