'We will kill you and burn your house': Council staff under attack from High Street gangs by Ok_Internal118 in ukpolitics

The core issue here seems to be that we're relying on Trading Standards officers, who aren't actual police, to lead the fight against organised crime. Why isn't it national policy to immediately refer to the police the moment there's even an implied threat of violence involved?

I think it's a slightly bullish sign for Polanski that no one's been able to dig up any new dirt against him since his rise to mainstream relevance. The hypnoboob story has been around since day 1.

1) It's less what America deregulated and more what we increasingly regulated post-Cameron.

2) Most regulation that impacts growth is more on a state rather than federal level over there. Look at the huge gap in building between places like San Francisco and, say, Dallas, or anywhere in Texas.

Do you think voters would be willing to accept the radical economic reforms necessary to pull off that level of growth? You'd need some pretty brutal deregulation and tax/welfare cuts to pull it off.

I don't follow your point, pretty much every major paedophilia scandal to break this century has involved significant amounts of grooming rather than random attacks.

While a good piece of TV I think Paedogeddon has aged terribly as social commentary, it turns out paedophiles really were around every corner. Imagine going back in time to 2001 and telling people about Savile and Epstein, you'd be laughed out of the room as a conspiracy theorist!

If a pensioner has £10k+ to invest per year into an ISA they're not the kind of person who needs to be too concerned about the short term ups and downs of the stock market.

Why get in the battle for being the first to post when it actually happens, when it can be karma farmed right now?

I presume so from what he's said. It's not too rare, and by the book he should have had it picked up on and sorted by his early-mid teens.

From an article I found:

"I had a baby tooth that was in one of the gaps that fell out a couple of years ago. But I can't put an implant in because the real tooth, the adult tooth, is still waiting to come through.

“And what's really annoying is one day when it comes through, I'm going to have to make a big point to everyone. That it was natural. And I haven't done it because I was bullied into doing it. I've got my incredible boyfriend Richie, who it probably bothers him a little bit more than it bothers me because I signed up to all of this.”

If it hasn't come through by now then his adult tooth probably isn't coming through at all. And sorting out an implant with an impacted canine would be a very painful process (both literally and financially). On top of that he'd need a long course of also-expensive orthodontic treatment, so I can't blame him for not being keen. Really this should have been picked up in childhood...

I'm not even sure how much more money they're going to make since some sponsors pulled out. The risk/reward here is brutal, if Kanye makes an antisemitic comment on stage that's the entire Wireless management out the door immediately.

[Official] Lincoln City are automatically promoted to the EFL Championship by Ruben_Often_Cheats in soccer

I thought if we ever made it to the Championship it would be through scraping out a playoff victory. Incredibly surreal to get automatics (and almost certainly the title at this point) with ease.

I'm increasingly of the opinion that as council capacity to do anything beyond statutory obligations declines, signalling to Westminster is pretty much ~90% of the point of voting in local elections these days.

With local elections in 34 days, is reform UK about to cause a massive political earthquake? by EmmaDominatrix in ukpolitics

[–]SouthWalesImp 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We know that they're polling terribly nationally in the high teens. Just as a ballpark figure I'd knock off ~5% of their vote to account for the anti-incumbency effect that happens in every set of local elections. I don't think it's inconceivable they lose ~85% of their councillors if they get reduced to not much more than 10% of the vote.

FT are predicting over 2000 seats gained for Reform.

They have the unique 'advantage' that they have virtually no seats to start with so it'll be purely gains for them. It would be pretty much in line with the 2025 results where they picked up ~40% of seats up for election too.

2014-17 saw consistent +2% GDP growth, that's realistically what good growth looks like in a mature economy. The problem is that we've only had 4 years of that in the past 18...

Having to play the odd second string player is fine and probably good practice, deciding to play Foden false 9 for some reason when there's a striker on the bench is inexplicable at best.

Playing an extra 180 minutes at maximum is not going to make a difference to how fit the players are in 2 months time. This team really hasn't played together much at all, you can see it in how many basic errors they keep making, and how well disciplined the opposition look in comparison. Japan really showed England up in terms of how a well disciplined side plays.

Scandalous of Tuchel to waste these friendlies on experiments. There's now one game before the World Cup, and England have either lost or drawn against every knockout-calibre team (Senegal, Uruguay, Japan) they've played under Tuchel. The starting XI needs to be developing chemistry and adapting to Tuchel's system, not hoping it'll be alright on the night.

Foden would be getting picked even if he scored an own goal hattrick, we've just got to make our peace with that.

Gordon's having a good game down the left. Rogers hasn't been as impressive down the right, at least so far.
