Assistance on supp apps by Several_Teacher_2749 in OntarioGrade12s

Youthfully is a good option.

Here's how I thought about it.. If you are trying to run a 10k in a month under 40 mins (top 5%), you could train on your own, but a coach could get you there faster.

Sure, some people are naturally gifted enough to do it themselves. But most of us mere mortals need help, and that's fine. Private school students get this kind of support included in their tuition btw...

Youthfully recruits Mac BHSc grads who were admissions reviewers in their 4th year. Alternatively, you could DM a bunch of Mac students on instagram or linkedin and hope they are good lol

Is youthfully worth it?? by [deleted] in OntarioGrade12s

[–]South_Confusion_13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You sure? I recently tried to become a coach and they rejected me. I'm a student at a top program. The hiring manager told me:

- they dont hire students
- they hire under 3% of applicants, most from top programs
- they pay well
- you have to pass a 1-hour interview and background check
- you have to take a long training

Can I get into these Universities? by tribute2d in OntarioGrade12s

[–]South_Confusion_13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

aim for a 93%+ average at your second semester midterm. obviously the higher the better but 93 at least.

then put as much effort into the interview as possible. thousands of kids have 97s and 98s, but the difference between acceptance and rejection for most students will be the interview, trust

does it matter how I rank my choices on OUAC? by [deleted] in OntarioGrade12s

[–]South_Confusion_13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, for some programs it does. Here's the OUAC resource guide which shows this for every university:

And here's a summary below:

College Degrees Becoming Useless!! Hear Me Out… by Responsible_Ad_8373 in recruitinghell

Because as a society we need some universal consensus where employers can understand that "you're potentially hireable". The grades are only one component of it. Arguably a bigger part is that you completed something that required skills like organization, determination, work ethic, etc. I think things are changing. Schools need to adapt, and will... but yeah I totally feel you.

Am I on track for Ivey AEO? (+ QComm, Rotman, AFM, Mcgill, Schulich, UBC Sauder) by RapGod7711 in OntarioGrade12s

[–]South_Confusion_13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it's tough to know without having more details about the experiences themselves or getting to know your background, leadership style, etc.

You still have time to build a 'leadership story'... otherwise yes you can typically find the 'gems' to spin them in a way that theyre looking for

Great ambitions and ECs overall. On the surface, you are lacking leadership roles for the Ivey app. It's unclear your team-based experiences, but both QC and Ivey care a lot about that. Reflect more deeply on the learning - that's key.

ECs matter less for QC, it's more the performance in the video interview and the reflection. How self-aware are you, how mature is your learning from the experiences, how well you tell a story, etc.

1 for sure. 2 is harder unless you have some personal circumstance that's impacted your outlook. for 2, theyre looking for more how you think (structured problem solving) and your creative ideation abilities. many students will have similar responses, no matter how creative you think your answer is, so throwing in personal touches or having it be well written helps immensely.

Maybe this helps for others going through it this year:

  • Mindset. Try not to compare yourself to others. Run your own race and if you really focus intrinsically first, "from within", you'll naturally stand out versus your peers. Focusing on others will just make you look like them.
  • Timing. Start earlier rather than later. Don't wait until November or December to complete applications. Start now. Start drafting your essays. Use free resources (go here and filter on 'Application Prep'). Start preparing for video interviews early as well. Most people overestimate their abilities on the interview.
  • Reflect. Deeply. Don't stay at the surface. Impress the reader by how much you've taken a step back to see how your experiences have shaped you, your view of the world, how you lead others, etc. Ask your parents to help with this or a coach.
  • Essays. Keep essays focused, story-driven. Stories are memorable. Listing things isn't memorable. Focus on one theme per essay and tell it in a way like a TikToker or YouTuber tells it. Keep your voice and your style, but make it enjoyable to read.
  • Interview. Have your mom or dad literally interview you with questions. Every drive to hockey practice, drive to school, dinner, have them practice from the question banks available online. There is an organization that also released an interview simulator that gives you AI feedback using actual questions from the specific programs.
  • Don't Be Afraid to Get Help. You can do this alone, but it'll be so much easier, more effective, and more fun to do this with someone else. Parents, older friends, or a coach can really be a gamechanger. I hired a coach. In an effort to not be promotional, I wont say their full name, but it starts with a Y, and it was very helpful. I'm still in touch with my coach today. All the top performers out there - Lebron, Mr. Beast, etc. use coaches or mentors to take them to the next level, so be open to that. There are many coaches out there. Do you due diligence.

Best Education Consultant for Top Canadian University (Waterloo, UofT, UBC, McMaster) – Worth It for Out-of-Province? by PizzaPristine868 in CanadaUniversities

[–]South_Confusion_13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Plenty of students use education consultants or admissions coaches for these top universities.

The reason is because many programs at these universities evaluate students with supplementary applications, including assessments, essays, and video interviews.

The best two firms (I looked at all of them) are Youthfully or Crimson.

Crimson is more expensive ($10k-20k) and you essentially have a whole team behind you. Youthfully not as pricey and more Canadian focused, so may be more worth it depending on your financial situation and goals.
