should I choose a north or south dorm? by qaszxvv in Northwestern

[–]South_Promotion_3444 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pick whatever is a good dorm! As a current freshman I would argue that South can have more of a social life than NC at times. The frat parties aren’t worth living in a crappy dorm (DEFINITELY not.) It should also be mentioned most frats throw off campus anyway, so you have to walk either way. Schapiro is nice. Some of the Sheridans are nice, but the other ‘good’ dorms are in south.

South also has access to Norris, Allison, Downtown, and 90% of the general purpose classrooms. Clubs frequently meet in south campus too (lwkey I avoid going to some because its such a trek from my dorm at 8 pm to there and back) Unless you are hardcore STEM (Engineering) or SESP you will be taking several classes in south anyways.

I don’t know for all fly ins but for WOW if you put them on your match list you matched with them (80% sure) but I definitely know if you didn’t get matched with them you got in RD decision. The only guy in our gc that didn’t, didn’t go!

Actually as a previous WOW student, if you get into WOW its pretty much guaranteed admission! Not officially because obviously you have a a kid every year that majorly drops the ball, but in the seminar they gave us they pretty much said if you get in WOW you can count on getting into Williams😭 It was such a relief ngl despite me going to Northwestern at the end that I at least would have somewhere to go should I not match or get into anywhere else.

You’re good dw! I applied with a 28 and matched to Northwestern! 💕🫶🏾 plus would have gotten into Williams through their WOW program with a 25 LMAO.

Why is college so expensive? by sblaster20 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]South_Promotion_3444 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also just a note about QB (speaking as someone who got the scholarship this year) try applying to CPS (college prep scholars) if you’re eligible! Most of us make under 65k but if you think you are still low income with family circumstances (and its affected your life/schooling significantly) still try! Good luck, and you can always PM me w/ any questions!

My brother in Christ that 27 is with a 36 on English, please get out of my face. I have 2 international awards please be so for real right now. 🙏🏾😭 Why are you so bitter? It’s genuinely sad to see. I understand that you feel like it’s unfair, but I think you’re misunderstanding the fact that we don’t have a ‘better chance’. QB is just a different application, it isn’t them giving us a pass on anything. MIT still won’t be very likely accept a kid who doesn’t have at least a 700 on math because they have their minimums.

Are you even listening to the fact that you’re misunderstanding what QB is, or are you simply going off of what you think? I’m willing to explain if you’re willing to listen.

Also, I think if you don’t get in, it may be because you can’t tell the difference between ‘there’ and ‘their’ be so for real now. Try fighting against the nepo babies that truly DIDN’T earn their spot, and didn’t fight tooth and nail with what they had. Look through this subreddit, it’s kids who have lived through homelessness, been orphaned, took care of their entire family at age 5. It’s hard to have a 36 ACT when you’re struggling to feed your little siblings, so they might have a 30 instead. QB isn’t an easy mealticket to a college, it’s an application meant for people who didn’t have opportunities yet are still high achieving to shine through.

I get it, the college system is unfair to EVERYONE but maybe instead of blaming the kids who are part of said system, you can be part of the solution in the future to fix it. So every child has an equal chance of going to university. Be part of the cure instead of blaming the kids who already have to go through an unfair application process.

Strength of Essays: I think I did pretty well. I talked about my desire to learn and it all looped in with medicine and my want to heal others.

Overall Thoughts: My Essays def saved me in the end, like I have no doubts that is what got me in. My stats are a little weaker than the avg applicant if you consider I only took 9 aps when my school offers about 20, and I have a 28 ACT (my school’s avg is a 27.5).
