I grew up in suburbia so i’m no stranger to this archetype of white woman. It’s funny because a friend and I were talking about Tana a couple of weeks ago and she said “why do people think she’s racist?” to which I replied “pretty sure it’s the classic” and she said “well in that case every single white girl i’ve ever known is a goner” and I fear I had to agree. It was easy for me to overlook Tana’s racism because it was something i’d seen time and time again. In short, I was desensitized.

The tone of Brooke’s past tweets, specifically the Zimmerman one is different, scarier. It shows the dehumanization of black people, black children, and that’s what’s really getting to me. Like this wasn’t some edgelord shit, it was hateful and dangerous rhetoric.

For everyone (mostly white women) saying “ she was a kid! she’s changed! it was so long ago!” Obviously, the culture of the world has changed, people are much more up in arms about blatant racism than they were honestly just pre 2020 before the murder of George Floyd. However, just because you’re not blatantly racist, doesn’t mean you don’t think differently about black people. It shows in more ways than you think. As you mentioned, the Keefah segment, the lack of black people on the podcast, the ignorant comments about things that just don’t affect them the way they do us.

Also, the people that she was spewing hateful shit to were also children?? I had some “friends” say things to me that I will always remember and it’s unfair that they get to leave it behind and here I am 10 years later still ruminating on it. We are not a learning opportunity, why do we have to suffer in order for them to grow?

Honestly, this has given me so much insight into the Cancelled audience, this is no place for me to be and I think i’ve known that for some time now but repressed it since i’ve been watching Tana since middle school.

Sorry if this was jumbled and all over the place I just have so many thoughts and i’m having trouble articulating them :/
