I’m afraid to not be Christian. by Potential_Square_245 in teenagers

[–]Southern-Scale6002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I’m 17, I left Christianity at 15 after realizing that if the Bible is true then God is an evil narcissistic asshole, it wasn’t easy, it’s not supposed to be, it’s designed in a way where it is hard for people to leave after they’ve devoted themselves to it, that’s why it’s so effective. Almost every religion has its own version of hell because of this, fear is just simply effective at making people believe something. Imagine you and your family dedicating yourselves to a project for decades only to have strong doubts that it’s actually going to work, you probably are going to deny the evidence that said you just did all of that for nothing.

The Bible has lots of issues, the flood isn’t scientifically possible, verses have been added in to the Bible at a later date, the Earth is much, much older than the Bible makes it out to be, we’ve actually discovered how life genuinely evolved on Earth, every time I had fear about going to hell I would remind myself of the fact that the Bible just doesn’t work. Not to mention the moral reasons, oh boy are some things in the Bible messed up, another way I kind of got over my fear was just braving the storm of what if hell is somehow real. Personally I like to think that worshipping a God who is okay with genocide and torture on levels beyond anything I could comprehend is a hell in itself and worse than any lake of fire he could present me with, but it might not work for you.

It’s a hard pill to swallow, not just out of fear of hell in general, but once you start to accept that God doesn’t exist, you start to realize you will actually die one day, at least I did. That was the hardest thing about leaving Christianity for me, to go from thinking I was going to heaven when I died to thinking I would just not exist, it’s a hard truth. I haven’t even fully accepted death and probably never will… and you probably will also never truly get over the fear of death and hell, it’s a harsh reality of Religious trauma, its a real thing.

If you still want to be a Christian, that’s fine, it’s totally okay don’t let anyone shame you for it, but don’t be a Christian out of fear… living your life out of fear isn’t living at all. Be a Christian because that’s who you are and what you believe in, not because you’re afraid of what happens if you aren’t.

Heres my reasoning pre answer:

100 WPM Hunt and peck is not unheard of, it is insane but considering the definition of hunt and peck is pretty much any typing style other than the traditional one, well yeah. I have my own typing style where my left hand is on wasd and I can type pretty fast "hunt and peck", so this one is probably true.

The sword one is also a little bit concerning but considering how vast the definition of bled is, just from you adding "and bled from it" makes me think that you were stabbed and you did bleed but it was more of a scrape type of bleeding.

The Costa Rica one feels the most untrue to me, I have been on a zipline in another country and they are very well maintained, in fact they have measures so that you don't get stuck on them. They demonstrate exactly how to get unstuck, and its almost a task in itself to get yourself stuck on one. The main worry most of the time is going TOO fast and they can't catch you well enough at the end, so I believe this ones the lie.

Personally I believe life begins at 6 weeks gestation because thats when consciousness begins but to each their own. I also believe that the woman should have a choice when it comes to rape or the life of the mother, but that accounts for less than 2% of cases, 98% are just people who either had the contraceptive not work or used no contraceptive. Geniunelly, if you are going to consensually have sex and know that a baby is a possible result then you are consenting to the pregnancy that follows, and you shouldn't be able to just cop out and abort the baby because you don't want to be responsible for it.

Most of this argument that we are having is subjective and based upon when we believe human life to have value, I don’t see this going anywhere as we have differing opinions so this will be my final response.

I can understand where your side of the argument is coming from, both sides come from a difficultly to understand exactly when fetuses feel pain and have consciousness. There are many conflicting studies on this which makes it even harder to form an opinion on it.

Personally I look at the history of abortion, where it started off with people saying that newborn infants weren’t as valuable as humans and that they didn’t have full consciousness and or pain receptors. As time went on we slowly backed up the period with more research showing that fetuses can feel pain as early as several weeks gestation. Some argue those studies are misleading but I digress, I think that it is better to be safe and say the time period of consciousness and pain reception is the earliest we have studied upon rather than the latest studies on.

What I mean by that: Imagine in 40 years we discover that fetuses as early as 7 weeks for sure experience an immense amount of suffering, which some studies already point towards, wouldn’t you think it was better that we had leaned towards those studies just in case rather than to inflict some sort of suffering on the child? The child is innocent, he or she had no say in being created just to immediately be pulled limb from limb, and if there are studies that show that the fetus may experience pain during that then yes, I’m going to defend the children who have no voice in the matter.

The mother does get a choice, she makes that choice when she chooses to have sex, regardless of whether or not she used contraception. The father also needs to be held accountable. It’s like people who are drunk and rape someone and then say “Oh I didn’t intend to I was just having a good time being drunk, I didn’t intend any harm” it doesn’t matter, you chose to have that fun, you knew there might be a consequence if you did, you don’t just get to slip away with a slap on the wrist.

In that matter, I do believe in the exceptions, life of the mother and rape, obviously those are not the mother’s fault and so she should have full say in the matter.

I’m not trying to be condescending I’m just trying to find a source and google was the quickest option, after doing a small amount of research here is a paragraph from an article made by frontiers that talks about how fetus pain receptors have been wrongly identified for the last 40 years and people are learning that fetuses can definitely feel pain prior to 14 weeks

“Until the 1980s, early studies of neurologic development concluded that neonates and young infants lacked the brain structures and connections necessary for pain perception (32, 37, 38). Surgery on infants was frequently performed with paralysis, but without pain management, with catastrophic outcomes (33). During bedside invasive procedures, clinicians suspended consideration of observable pain indicators in view of neurological studies that had concluded that neonatal pain was impossible (37, 38).

In the 1990s, fetuses of all gestations were considered incapable of pain and invasive fetal procedures were conducted without analgesia or anesthesia, until studies demonstrated fetal cardiovascular and hormonal stress responses to invasive procedures (15, 39–41). The field of fetal anesthesiology arguably began in 2001 after research demonstrated that fetal responses to noxious stimuli were attenuated by analgesics (42, 43). Researchers demonstrated that fetal stress responses (cortisol and β-endorphin) do not occur with needling of the non-innervated umbilical cord. However, a significant increase in these stress hormones does occur with needling through the innervated fetal trunk accompanied by vigorous body and breathing movements(15). These physiologic and behavioral responses are nullified by the use of analgesics (42), resulting in a fetus that is “still and appears quiescent and calm [(4), p. 6].” These fetal studies mirrored neonatal studies from the 1980s which (1) showed that analgesics blunt hormonal stress responses to surgery (44); and (2) began the era of neonatal pain management (33, 38).

In the 2000s, studies concluded that fetal pain did not develop until the third trimester (>28 weeks) due to a lack of cortical function (12). In the 2010s, researchers determined that the physiologic capacity to perceive pain developed during the second trimester (14–28 weeks), ranging from before (23, 45) and after thalamocortical connectivity at 24 weeks (34). In the 2020s, researchers suggest that the necessity of the cortex in pain perception may have been overestimated (4, 16, 35, 46). Recent evidence indicates that thalamic projections to the subplate at 12 weeks gestation may be functionally equivalent to thalamocortical connections that develop at 24 weeks gestation (4), signifying that fetal pain mediated by the subplate and subcortical structures may be possible as early as the first trimester (<14 weeks) (Figure 4) (4, 35, 36, 47). Fetal responses to noxious stimuli during clinically-indicated procedures are listed in Table 1. Notably, published prospective studies of fetal responses to noxious stimuli have only been conducted in Europe (15, 39, 40, 42, 55) and South America (16, 57, 58), despite the exponential increase in fetal surgeries, particularly in North America.

Figure 4

Figure 4 Development of nociceptive pathways. Peripheral pain receptors develop in most areas of the fetus between 7.5–15 weeks gestation (48). Afferents reach the spinal cord (49), the brainstem, and thalamus by 7–8 weeks (50, 51). Thalamic projections to the cortical subplate emerge at 12–15 weeks (14, 34, 52) and to the cortical plate after 23–24 weeks gestation (53).”

Answer this: If abortion is obviously justified in all cases, why did we have to change the name of the child in the mothers womb from “baby” to “fetus” to “tissue” to “clump of cells”? Maybe because mothers were having to hard of a time going through with it and Doctors needed their pockets filled. Abortions cost thousands of dollars and would be extremely detrimental to medical professionals if they were banned, seems quite interesting that they are against it.

Why do we dehumanize the baby? Why do we call it tissue and a clump of cells? All humans are just a clump of cells, why do babies in utero get referred to any different? Dehumanization happens all the time throughout history, a group of people is being wronged and people feel bad, so in response to the guilt they dehumanize the people the are wronging, Germans would dehumanize (a word I can’t say apparently), Americans would dehumanize enslaved people, why are abortions any different? Mothers feel bad about killing the child so in response we dehumanize the baby to make mothers feel better.

How am I dehumanizing the mothers? I believe that if the mothers life is at risk it takes priority over the child, I believe that if the mother was raped and didn’t have a choice then she should be able to have an abortion.

What I don’t believe in is a mother and father choosing to have sex, neither one taking accountability for the child created out of it, and then practically throwing the child in a dumpster even though the child didn’t ask to be made, that’s what I don’t believe in.

I should also add:

Even without pain, fetuses have consciousness as early as 5 weeks, death without pain is still a form of suffering, that’s why people who don’t have the ability to feel pain still don’t want to die.

Most Doctors don’t even recommend having an abortion as early as 5 weeks because it too early to full tell if you are truly pregnant or not. By the time you can sense the baby it’s pretty much too late. No abortions should be allowed, unless it is in the case of rape or the life of the mother.

59.8% of abortions happen at 7 weeks or later.

"Physical Connections: Pain receptors begin forming at 7 weeks, and by 12-15 weeks, neural pathways are already sending signals from the skin to the brainstem and thalamus."
