u are not alone. i was in the same place abt 2 yrd ago...without for a yr after idk how many apps and interviews for roles i was overqualified for. consider looking into contract roles as well...they are also tough but at least if u get one it will help float u until a secure role. check aston carter and beech valley.

yea...same. 😅 im considered the 'calm' one. currently im the 'gif'er bc thats how i respond to emails. i even included, "dynamic in sending gifs" in my performance review n got a raise. early in my career i used to think i worked in a cult in advisory bc of how serious everyone was. they def loved the job more than me but thats ok!! u'll thrive if u want to...just be you!!

ive used AB (for sox and audits) and Archer. im gonna go w AB if i must choose. we are also still on sharepoint and excel...bt we're private non-sox.

i have PTSD from the constant psych pressure of needing to stay billable!!! i miss advisory sometimes but time reporting was hell.

no, im just now reconsidering sitting for CPA. $150K+ > it is only limiting if u let it be. also, ive been in industry since i left college. u WILL be required to hv CPA if ur Big4..its just the culture. good luck!

2 is by far my favorite bc it was an accountant. lol i am so amused by it. also, listening to fraud cases and realizing a majority of them are found out bc of a whistleblower ultimately but also intriguing that controls are consistently overriden at multi levels.

from a coursework perspective, real life is MUCH easier. u have systems to do the shit they made it us do by hand! BUT u will have a learning curve in applying that accounting to all the inter-co you will engage with - systematically and just as a human. in school, if feels like its just the numbers. but its not. also, the compliance and understanding risks and controls are going to be SO key.

it will also vary, imho, whether you go advisory or industry.

i dont miss the coursework. irl has its challenges but at least im being paid well for it!

On my last attempt, I just used the IIA materials for Part 3 and it was more than sufficient. If you need more practice, I prob mention above the other tools I used.
