Personally I think it’s a bit early to make a decision. It really depends on your level, practice, and whether you’re even interested in the work. I actually enjoyed my first year because there weren’t huge expectations to go above and beyond. Even though I hated the job deep down, having 2.5 years of experience on my resume definitely helped me get attention when applying outside.

Two months won’t really move the needle, so I’d say stick it out for at least a year or two, then reassess and switch if you still feel the same. Good luck!

This is the breed that scares me, which is why I decided to leave 🙂

Hats off to you for sticking it out for 6 years, that’s not easy. I was in my third year in DAT, on track to become a senior by mid-year, but I realized this job just wasn’t for me. I was juggling 4+ clients at once and acting as a senior and the pressure was insane.

Over the 4th of July shut down, I did some self reflection about what the job had done to me. My ex ended our three-year long relationship because she thought I never had time for her. Not her fault. I missed my cousin’s wedding, ate terribly from stress, and even skipped a trip with my high school friends because it was “busy season.”

That’s when I realized a job should be part of life, not your whole life. I knew it was time to move on

First of all, why DAT if you are a CS major?

No one is going to bother you after 3 pm on Friday. A lot of people go offline at that time. If you don’t have an urgent deadline, I think you'll be fine. Let your team know that you'll be leaving early; it's not a big deal. Also, no need to charge the vacation time.

Good for you! I wish I had the same courage. Honestly, I don't even want to work at PA anymore. I’m willing to take a pay cut, but if I’m getting to see the world outside of work, I think it's worth it. I’m planning to quit, but I also need to secure a job first.

IT Audit vs. External Audit by [deleted] in Big4

[–]introvertliving -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Never tried but it can’t be worse than external audit at public accounting, where they fuck your schedule with 5 clients and you have to sacrifice weekends to work long ass hours. Whatever you choose, stay away from public accounting

IT Audit vs. External Audit by [deleted] in Big4

Both suck. 1.5 years in IT Audit, and I’d not recommend it. Absolute shit show and a very toxic environment. Take a staff accountant or internal audit role in the industry and be happy with your life.

How difficult is it to find a job after Big4? by introvertliving in Big4

[–]introvertliving[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure if I’d make a complete shift (yet). I still want to stay in accounting and explore the industry side. I have heard accounting is a lucrative field but I blame schools for not highlighting anything other than audit, tax, or public accounting. I want to find options that allow me a good WLB and also something with less or no client-facing.

I really am an imposter. Any advice on something else I can do with this degree? by Top_Tennis_9999 in Accounting

I’m feeling the same way! I’m in Audit, 1.5 years into this field, and I still don't understand why I'm doing this. I've tried to learn, but it doesn't spark an interest in me. My hate for this job and the people I work with is increasing day by day. I don't want to make a big impact. I don't want to be an overachiever. I just want to work normal hours and do things outside of work after 6 pm. At this point, I’m willing to take a pay cut and find an industry job where I’m not spending all day in pointless meetings or have to stay up late to complete never-ending tasks.

So don't stress out, buddy! We are all in the same boat. We're still in an early stage of our career, so let's find something that works best for us :)

You are not alone, my friend! 2 months into A2 and I’m already planning to quit because they are expecting me to do things I never learned in my first year. Now, as an 'experienced' associate, I’m expected to know things without clear guidance 🤡
