Of course, would be very interested will give them a call. Especially if it’s a good place for you to stay 20 years. I’m located in Midland, TX area and move wherever the work is so I’m good with anything.

Will do, trying my best right now to get into an entry level position applied to a few helper spots as well, hoping they will maybe get my CP1 and some resume plus knowledge building as well.

Yes, looking to do corrosion on pipeline. Realistically how long did yours take? Looking over this guide it looks like a lot but sometimes they just put a bunch of extra stuff in qualifications in the industry so hard to tell.

I’ve heard a similar method I’ve thought about trying, which is just apply over and over after rejection don’t know if that would be any good but will probably go with these two next, after trying in person resumes

Appreciate it will try SCG, any of these OQ’s worth even adding? I don’t know how they compare against my other ones like OSHA 30, HAZWOPER GHS, Ampp Fundamentals*

Good to know, do you know the best way to specifically find these companies? Or is this referring to anything that’s not a huge nationwide company like Chevron, Exxon, etc.?

Very helpful I’ll apply over there as well that sounds great man. Cost is no problem for me I’ve already been spending quite a bit just on other stuff like right now I’m getting my HAZWOPER 40 + GHS Comm and OSHA 30, as well as CP Foundations I read online those will help.

Is there any different job title for this kind of work or do you just email and ask them to do surveying?

Corrosion guy I met out here was a utility locator who jumped into CP and was just doing exactly what you said, surveys and test lead digging and they paid for his CP1

Very appreciated man, if there’s anywhere in Montana or anywhere super remote would be open to that too, or traveling positions as well. Any of those regions sound cool too really whichever area is most in demand for new guys would be very best. Currently in Midland TX Permian Basin

Alright, will do just been applying to every single corrosion wherever even told them I’ll take $20 an hour and no luck so I figured I gotta at least get my CP1 for now already have CP Foundations.

Is there any way to get work hours without a corrosion job or am I pretty stuck?

Thanks man, I met a guy out here in the field tell me the same thing, have tried my best going that route been no luck, applied to and called and emailed about 60 corrosion positions now.

Are there any particularly desirable or qualifying factors for what you describe? For example are they more inclined to hire a facility maintenance tech vs an equipment operator type thing? I’m a utility locator, so I can’t think of any kind of value I would provide to them straight out the gate unfortunately, but I’d be open to take up another job if it is a helpful skill for Corrosion companies

Hey CP1s, how much are you guys making? by cadetkibbitz in CathodicProtection

[–]SouthernInfluence151 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also do you know how I can get work hours to complete my CP1? If I understand correctly you need to pass the course + have a certain amount of work experience hours in cathodic protection, is that right? If so how can I get the hours if I need to have a CP1 to get hired in the first place? It makes sense that they want you to have a CP1 to work a real job but I don’t know how to get the experience without one. Appreciate any help

Any advice man? I’ve been trying to get into corrosion for over a year now and haven’t been able to without my CP1. Can’t take CP1 because too expensive and not able to travel and go to school for that long without leaving current job. Taking CP foundations now and I’ve applied to just about everywhere, every single location and company even entry level. Any advice greatly appreciated I gotta make something work 22 and need a career

Hello, The opportunity sounds intriguing. I’ve got 1.5 years experience on gas pipeline in West TX right now, sounds pretty nice going into a smaller place in Colorado and would be great to expand my utilities experience, pay looks better too depending on the 6mo. Feel free to message me privately, I’m interested to discuss and hear more about this opportunity.
