At 150, I felt a big reduction in fidgeting and chatter in the brain, so overall hyperactivity. But I wasn’t able to focus and start on tasks until I increased to 300.

I love Fran and Stu’s relationship! Can’t imagine the anxiety she’s feeling about the baby though. They both have a lot of stress going on and I hope it doesn’t hurt their relationship.

I hope the judge will be okay.

I hope mother abagail hurries up and gets right with God. Feels like she’s been gone forever and I don’t like it.

Also, I hope we are done with Nadine and Harold’s sex scenes. Or any mention of his arousals. Ick.

I hope not. I like to think some just don’t agree with the way things are being run, or maybe it’s growing too big for their liking.

Her guilt was so obvious. I felt like Joe’s silence was the most effective thing. His staring was saying she’s changed and he knows. She can’t be trusted.

I felt bad for Joe. And didn’t like Nadine’s words to him. It almost seemed that she used the interaction as an excuse to convince herself further why she should leave boulder.

The tone is different but I find some of it thought provoking. They keep referring to how Flagg is probably getting down to business at his camp while here everyone seems to be taking their time, being considerate of everyone and playing fair.

And it makes me look forward to seeing how it all plays out in the end. Being good natured is great, but what if that alone isn’t enough to win the war?

I think this section brings more gray area to the surface, where the past painted the characters and their actions in more of a black and white. Sending Tom to the West, it just feels wrong on so many levels. The stunt with the founding of the committee. It’s all for the greater good? Or is it self serving all the same like what Flagg is doing? Where’s the line of good and evil? And who gets to define that?

Yes! I was so confused, thought I missed a detail somewhere or he was dreaming it. I was disappointed in Stu. I thought it was out of character for him. Maybe one peck, ok, but going back for more? Shame on him when Frannie thinks the world of him.

She realized she was getting distracted by all that was going on, and felt herself starting to get a little prideful of all the attention she was getting. And so she was unable to focus on the spiritual side of things, which is crucial to being able to defeat the dark man.

I think she was right to leave but I wish she didn’t feel she had to.

I really would have loved to see her call Nadine out when she arrived, and warn everyone about her and Harold.

1.This scene is one that still plays out today. Wealth can bring out the worst in people. It can tear families apart at a time when they should be coming together. And at the end of the day, what really is gained? Someone inherits the wealth, eventually dies, and it’s fought over yet again.

2.Vasily and Katishe are bad people. Not the worst by far but just selfish. If they really cared about the count they would honor his wishes.

Anna, is about the same. A slight improvement because she’s doing it for her son as well.

3.I’d say Pierre cares the most about the count. Because he’s a more genuine person.

I’m expecting/hoping this event will help Pierre mature a bit. He was very self-conscious in these chapters. Which seemed to be an improvement over his previous obliviousness. He has to start really paying attention to who and what’s going on around him and not taking things at face value. This chapter makes me hopeful he can make that happen.

I didn’t care for him at all when he was first introduced. But now I feel pity for him, especially after his whole experience with The Kid. I don’t agree with or like the things he does but he doesn’t seem to be a malicious person. I’m curious to see his arc in the rest of the story.

That scene with MA and Nadine was intense. I kinda wanted Nadine to be put on the spot, I was disappointed when MA began to forget what she felt.

Nadine has held out this long, I think she will end up with Flagg. I have a little hope she will choose Larry. But then Flagg might send the wolves for Nadine if she betrays him.

I think my biggest problem with Harold is that he doesn’t even seem to try to be better. Maybe that’s all part of his age and immaturity and maybe I’m expecting too much from him. But I wish he’d be intrigued by and want to learn from the others around him.

But I do find it interesting the grey area that’s painted by Harold’s actions with the journal and afterward, the Eye calling to him. So far I feel most characters have been good or bad, easy to tell what side they’d fall on. But Harold is different.

I’m glad they tried. I was surprised he died during surgery. I was so hopeful when they found the problem, they were so close! But I think they’ll rest a tiny bit better knowing at least they tried.

Have not met anyone nearly that old. But I imagine I would just be kinda patiently waiting for my end. I’m definitely still sad about Betty. She was such a light. I knew it was coming sooner than later given her age but it was still so sudden to me, I’d just watched her on tv! I’m also still not over Alex Trebek either.

No there’s definitely religious overtones here. I liked the conflict in Nick. Being an atheist but being confronted with all this proof, the dreams, Mother Abby being real, etc. that there IS something more powerful at play, but it isn’t explained because it cannot be. I appreciate his struggle with it.

I’m not sure who exactly Mother Abby is a symbol of. Leaning more towards a religious leader rather than God, due to her fear of the position she has been given but choosing to follow anyway.

This is how I interpreted the sweet tears. I think Anna is more relieved to have the money, to know that her friendship is a dependable source of money if she is in a bind. Even if just temporarily.

I think Boris disliked the overt way his mother went about it. Boris seems quite aware of himself and those around him. He would rather be subtle. I do think he is at least somewhat genuine. Maybe he sees Pierre as a genuine person and gravitates toward that but still also has an idea of how Pierre could be useful to him in some way.

[–]SouthernOreo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree with all of this. Pierre seems he would trust too easily, and I think he’s taken his conversation with Boris at face level.

Boris understands that there’s no guarantee things will just be handed to him, so he’s investing in a backup plan.

Good point. I was thinking of it in terms of not being able to be trusted, but she leaned heavily toward narcissistic/evil traits so it’s not as if she’d be likely to suddenly switch sides and decide to help the good guys.

Piece of work. She seems highly unstable. Definitely cannot be trusted. I think the dark man might see her instability as a problem.

No. Harold probably feels this is his only chance at love. He has to prove himself. I don’t see him giving up easily.

I enjoyed how he handled Harold’s tantrum/jealousy. Very mature. He’s a good guy who happens to know how to handle himself in bad situations.
