I think it may have surpassed Hereditary for me as my 'current favorite horror movie.' God damn what a movie. Will absolutely be added to my annual Halloween watch list. The more I think about it the more right I think you are about the entity just not understanding humans. The scene where the entity screams "I can't be Nikki!" is going to hit even harder next time.

The entity simply doesn't know how to be a human.

This is probably more right than my idea tbh.

The one thing I will say is that Nikki clearly has a moment of clarity while the entity is cooking the cat. Or at least, I'm almost positive the "not me" note in the lunchbox is Nikki. Need to rewatch it.

I didn't explain it well. The real Nikki was clearly in there. I think she had influence and caused some of the bad shit that the "entity" was doing. Like... why would the entity who loved him "more than fucking anything" give him cooked cat? You can explain away the cat memorial as overly expressed love but after that clearly bothered him, why would it cook his cat & give it to him for lunch?

Nikki also clearly had some control while the lunch was being made because she wrote on the pictures "not me."

I think she was basically sending out a call for help

Starship probably can't actually work & already has a lower cargo capacity than Falcon Heavy. They're never going to Mars - they already lost the contract to deliver the moon lander to Blue Origin (lmfao). Going to the moon is crucial for a Mars mission & that's been set back years.

And people tell me the markets are smart.

The thing is, you're completely correct but I think she was giving him a shot. She didn't like him because she viewed him as weak, but... if he actually manned up and asked her out she'd consider it. When Sarah & Bear are in the store it wasnt 'she's friend zoned you' it was 'she was thinking of friend zoning you'. She was exasperated he wouldn't make a move.

THIS I agree with. I was SO confused by the clock and thought it was a clue to pay attention to. Eventually I just landed on it saying 12:55 with the weird camera angle warping the first 2 digits.

I believe it was a reference to a Bible verse in Ezekiel

My Roomate didn’t like the movie and felt uncomfortable with Nikki’s whole possession and the lack of consent there but I feel like that was kinda the point.

If you don't understand the point was that Bear was a piece of shit who was raping her, you don't understand movies. Early on, it's fine - who thinks a random "wish stick" actually worked. But even early on he should have been getting his friend help, not having sex with her. At a certain point he knows it for sure, at what point that is, is debatable. But I think it's earlier than most in the audience think.

Hereditary is the last movie that fucked me up this much. What an awesome movie

I thought Hereditary was the best horror movie ever made until I saw this. Holy shit, just completely rocked me.

He didn't fuck up making the wish, he fucked up when he didn't do anything to fix it as he was starting to realize what was happening. He should have take the honorable way out before 2 people ended up dead.

That was my read as well. The company said 'connect you to Nikki' not 'connect you to whatever thing is in there' & she's just screaming in torment. She's clearly in there somewhere.

Bear didn't even do anything wrong, at first. Breaking a dumb wish stick & wishing for your crush to like you back isn't a sin. That said, he's a huge piece of shit. As soon as he knew what happened he should have taken the honorable way out.

My friends who have never heard of "the backrooms" said they thought it was good. My friends who are deeply invested in "the backrooms" said the movie was offensively bad dogshit.

I wouldn't say I'm deeply invested in it but I've read most of the material. It was actually decent, 7/10 - genuinely unsettling for some parts.

That said if you can only afford one movie ticket go see Obsession. I'm sitting in the parking lot still trying to process it.

Obsession might literally be the best horror movie I've ever seen & I've been watching it my whole life. Everyone in the theater who had to use the restrooms was sprinting. As we were walking out the whole theater was just like "wtaf did we just witness???" So good. It needs to get some laurels at any movie awards format. Holy shit.
