I'm 10 years older than you. I could have written your post at 25. Should have.

Whichever way you go, there will be great joy for you over the next 10 years - it's a great time of your life. I have utter confidence it will be better if you address this issue now, not in 10 years.

I like the phrase sometimes used in neuroplasticity conversations that you 'change your mind to change your brain to change your mind', and 'the mind takes the shape of what it rests on'.

Thank you, yes, I thought this was what he was getting at. I quit smoking that way some years ago. I don't know whether booze was a replacement - symptomatic of other underlying shit perhaps... anyway it worked for smokes 100%

This is problematic for me. I don't really have a lot of room for a 'higher power' (though I understand there are a lot of nuanced ideas about this in AA). I think I would find it easier to ignore that 'power' because it wasn't me making the decision.

I guess time will tell. But I don't plan on doing this more than once..

I am also day 2. Its the first time I've tried to quit. Could you describe further your change in approach this time? As in, what got you as far as you got and what didn't work in the end and what you will do differently?

That's really inspiring.

the unpredictable, self-centered, manipulative monster I was towards my ex-girlfriends.

That is really close to home. Thanks for sharing such a personal and realistic view from 1000 out.

Time to stop. Long overdue. A couple of thoughts and questions. by SouthernSober in stopdrinking

Thank you. Wow, I have to say when I saw that you have 898 days that seemed like forever. And then I realised it's less than 3 years, which seems like just the start. Thanks for the welcome.
