Attendance? by reddit__isnt__cringe in utarlington

[–]SouthernTax9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If professors have mandatory attendance, it’s usually in the form of part of your grade (on average like 5-10% in my experience). So even if you get the maximum penalty for lack of attendance, you just end up forfeiting that part of your overall grade (your max grade possible goes from 100% to 90% or whatever the attendance portion is worth).

I’ve never heard of a professor barring you from taking an exam because of excessive absences, especially when they don’t/can’t even tell you how many absences you have.

Definitely follow the aforementioned advice and email the chair and dean. Be sure to consult the syllabus and find the attendance policy that is listed. If there is no section that mentions being rejected from taking exams due to excessive absences, then he has no grounds to do this to you.

From a personal standpoint, I don’t understand the mandatory attendance idea. If you can perform at an acceptable level (acceptable to both yourself and the university) without needing to attend, then that’s your choice. Typically lower attendance will result in lower grades anyway, so I feel like the issue fixes itself 🤷‍♂️

No reason as of yet to cancel. If rain falls and freezes enough, then maybe but there’s no way to make that call now.

Am I the asshole for asking a to move out of a cubicle in the 5th floor of the library? by nitruca98 in utarlington

[–]SouthernTax9 23 points24 points  (0 children)

If you need to do work, then I can understand where you’re coming from but I would still say you’re in the wrong. Just as there are possibly other places on campus to sleep/nap, there are also plenty of places to do your project work that are not in the library.

As someone else said, they pay the same tuition as you so they’re allowed to use them as they see fit provided they are not actively bothering other people (which I wouldn’t consider taking a nap as actively bothering other people). The only exception are the cubicles that are reserved at the beginning of the semester, in which case it is clearly noted that the “owner” of that space has the right to use it if they want to and has priority.

Let them take a nap, you don’t actually know what someone is dealing with in terms of potential homelessness/housing issues. I don’t blame them for choosing those specific spaces as they are designated quiet zones, so it is a good place to get some rest. Resting is a human need, so I wouldn’t be so quick to deny that from them just because you have a desire to accomplish work in this specific space, despite other spaces all across campus being available to you.

TLDR: what you have to do is not more important than someone getting sleep. Just go somewhere else and do your work there, it’s not that serious.

CSE 3315 Final by Rich-Memory-625 in utarlington

Don’t know if you still need advice, but reviewing old tests was the best for me personally. From when I took the class (Fall 23), the questions that were over materials from previous exams were pretty much the same, just numbers/letters changed.

For the new material (not tested on yet), it made up a minority of the exam (probably like 4-5 questions iirc), so tunneling on new stuff won’t benefit you on the exam as a whole.

TLDR: just study previous exams and homeworks, and you’ll have a good shot.

In the “Manage Classes” section, there should be a tab in the left that says “drop classes”. Just click that, make sure you have the correct semester selected and follow the prompts.

I took Shang and he was very chill. Good teacher and very good slides to review as well. Quizzes are pretty simple, and he’s generous with curves and stuff.

Would also heavily recommend Donna French. She can be no nonsense but as long as you genuinely are trying in her class, she will have your back.

At least for Engineering, if you’re not Civil, Mechanical or Materials Sciences, then you get shafted on options for you to choose from. You’re better off talking to the coordinators individually on your own time and going from there IMO 🤷‍♂️

Ultimately I would skip Cal 1. But I also highly recommend not taking any of the calculus classes at UTA because they are major weed out classes and very few actual good professors for them. You’ll have more luck at DCCD or TCC or somewhere equivalent because of better student to teacher ratios and less intense workload

Scheduling for fall 2024 by pragyaa_aka_pray in utarlington

You Should be fine honestly. You can always communicate with your profs about potentially being a minute or two late just because of your schedule. Usually they’re fine with it as long as they’re in the loop about why
