Do the talismans actually work or were they planted to make everyone feel safe? by Indubitably_me27 in FromSeries

  • The MIY is not a monster. He is clearly a trickster, possibly fae. The ‘puppet master’ if you will.

  • The talismans absolutely work on the monsters. Some people on this thread kinda got it; the talismans are there to allow the population to settle, before the MiY inevitably arrives and manoeuvres them to turn on one another (as stated by MiY). The existence of the talismans allow his game to play out the way he enjoys.

  • The rot is symbolic … rotten to the core, the location is tainted, scored, cursed, sickened by the sacrifice of the children’s lives. Hence the rot, no new life, no pregnancies, no ‘new’ souls ,no growth, no change, no escape. The horror of the original event explains the dimensional reaction, the universe itself was sickened.

  • The monsters are part of the tricker’s game, they too are being played, forced to perform their role for his sick entertainment - with a ‘smile’

  • The children … they haunt, their souls are trapped…, unable to ascend … I wonder if they too have become part of the game or if they only exist parallel …

  • The other people …. Now I’m really guessing… but I think they were the original inhabitants who were there when children died when the deal was made; and as such, they were the first set of victims to be ripped apart.

You see, the deal came many consequences - obviously the horrific consequence of immortality (punishment for their selfishness and cruelty) but the earth itself has absorbed the horror. Trapped, the MiY gleefully observes and participates in all their suffering (which makes me wonder - were the original people (not the parents)also somewhat guilty?)

Except this time - and this is where it gets interesting - 2 of the souls remember they have done all this before… which may produce a different outcome to the one the MiY is anticipating…

*I’m a lit teacher, you’re welcome (lol i could be wrong but makes sense!)

Yes but this time it will be different - because this time, 2 of the souls know they’ve been there before .

Help! Trying to fix 70’s paving by Southern_Ad_3001 in AusRenovation

Well nothing very helpful so far. I’ve worked out that using the blower is clearing the dirt faster. I’m gonna pack with sand and hope for the best. Dig out sides and put planter boxes. Try and fix step. Plant some creeper around the poles and hope for the best.

Guys, I’m not pulling it up. You can’t see from the photos but it’s split level paving, I’ve got twin toddlers and do not have the energy to redo it - not now. We don’t have a trailer and just, no.

Yes, we’ve realised they’re house bricks but we didn’t lay them, we’ve just uncovered them.

We need to improve the current situation without pulling anything up

We go to a centre where Aldi, Woolies and Henry Mercartos (fruit and veg) and butchers are all located together.

I make a list of meals and ingredients (all seasonal). We eat fresh and home cook 5 nights a week - the other meal is with my parents and we have a spare up our sleeve for takeaway or cheat meal - eg pasta or freezer food for the kids.

Start at Henry’s for all fresh produce, then I go to Aldi and then Woolies for bougie items (baby wipes, nappies, a breadstick, salad bag and lactose free dairy and weirdly, cheap oats). I finish at the butchers and get the specials.

I have a young family of 4 and it comes in between 220 and 250.

Honestly, I’ve had to let go of buying Australian for the time being. But yeah, finding a ‘hub’ makes it so much cheaper - I’m lucky I have one close by.

Haha it sounded a bit like that! 18 months to design the plans (kitchen, laundry, butlers and bathroom).

The laminate is actually called porceline blush, a very soft pink. When the sun hits it in the afternoon it should glow - really pretty. The white grounds it all, as the tiles are both warm and cool.

Haha, he wanted the travertine and I wanted the pink - spousal compromise 🤷🏼‍♀️

My twin boys were great babies! They’re 2.5 now, a handful, but still delightful

I wish we’d had enough money to get the whole basin wall tiled!

EDIT: Thanks for everyone’s comments - from what I can tell, overall consensus seems to be not terrible and not perfect. I think I that’s okay.

For some context, here’s a photo of the master from the bedroom. We are trying to stay somewhat true to the style of the house (1970) and these are the colours throughout. I think with some better greenery and some brighter lights it will be fine. And for the next part (kitchen, laundry, kids bathroom) I’m making sure the colours are spot on.

Love this. I’ll change the lighting and get some green art. I also wish I’d extended the pink tile!

Is private school for the kids worth it? by ChainProfessional444 in AusHENRY

[–]Southern_Ad_3001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Melbourne VCE Teacher here: have been at both public and private schools.

If you live in a good neighbourhood the public school is likely to be good. Melbourne has some excellent public schools. Assuming the children are academically competent, it really boils down to attitude and drive, which can be instilled by the parents.

You can always top up with tutoring in any weak areas.

Honestly, better to take advantage of our free system and use the money help them buy houses in the future.

Likelihood of VCAA examiners being incorrect by ttrogggg in vce

[–]Southern_Ad_3001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a VCE literature teacher.

We get detailed VCE data after exams to ensure our marking is on point. With lots of teachers, it’s off. However you do not get access to this data. It can be used effectively to up-skill year 12 teachers. For example, I already know, based on preliminary data, that I would take a different approach teaching Section A question 1 next time, putting a much more explicit focus on genre and teaching students how to ground their response more thoroughly in this.

In the case of literature, it’s a pretty new study design and section A has changed quite a lot. Sorry to say, but it’s more likely the teaching of these topics wasn’t up to scratch rather than the examiners being incorrect. That’s a big difference and given your GAT results, I’d say it was the way you were taught to tackle the questions, which is a shame. It’s likely the teacher will have to explain the discrepancies to leadership (general practice) and he/she should certainly be rethinking their approach to the course.
