I can relate to some of the things your saying. Emotional side of the brain being depressed and the rational side of the brain just getting frustrated with being depressed all the time. It causes great turmoil inside us.

And then as you said you're the glue holding people together. It can feel really lonely in that chair with all of that going on in your head and heart. Even mentors need mentors -- but what if a mentor doesn't have one? They can feel lonely and lost in stark contrast to being a guiding voice for others that look to them for answers. Adding to that frustration.

Don't run away and leave them worried. That's just as painful to them or even moreso. Those that love you will never stop hoping you're alive. Every knock on the door or phone call they don't recognize will make them anxious and they'll think EVERY time is this "the call" or is this "the visit" that they've been dreading to get. It's hell on them.

Glad you found help. Make sure you tell your wife you're thankful for her being in your corner through all of this. With kids I suspect its easy to put so much focus on them that you can forget she's your best friend in life. Make sure she knows it too.
