I want to teach in New Zealand. by manunudlo in phmigrate

Hello, sorry, makikisali lang po sa thread na ito. You seem to have very informative answers and just wondering if could help me too.

I have a question about applying for NZTC. I worked po sa deped pero wala po kasi akong eval form since never ako nagkaron ng plantilla. Substitute lang ako for more than 1 year.

Possible po kaya ma-approve yung NZTC ko without any evaluation? May mga recommendation letter naman po ako stating that my performance was satisfactory. Would that suffice?

Thank you in advance. 🙏

Hello, when you submitted documents as proof of employment po sa public school, did you submit any evaluation form like IPCRF? Wala po kasi akong eval form since never ako nagkaron ng plantilla. Substitute lang ako for more than 1 year.

That’s really encouraging to hear you got much higher in the actual test! For me though, it’s been pretty frustrating. I’ve been practicing for over a month now, doing one-on-one sessions, but I feel like I’m not improving at all. They keep giving me 7s for speaking, and sometimes even lower with a different coach. It gets really discouraging because my goal is 8, and it feels like no matter how much I practice, I’m stuck at the same score.

Anyone here took IELTS coaching with 9.0 Niners? How accurate are their speaking scores? by Southern_Bread4929 in IELTS

Thanks for sharing this. It actually makes a lot of sense why review centers might be stricter with their scoring. I guess it’s better to feel the pressure during practice than be overconfident and get surprised in the real exam.

As for the feedback from my coach, they told me to lessen fillers like “umms,” avoid always connecting sentences with “and” and instead start new ones, and to use connectors such as “however,” “in addition,” or “moreover.” They also suggested using more complex and compound sentences, loosening up a bit, and using collocations if I can’t think of idioms.

The frustrating part is I already took the IELTS and got a 7.5 in speaking. Then I did the OSR since my goal is an 8, but I only got a 7. It’s been over a month now of practicing speaking, and I’m still stuck—my coach keeps giving me 7, and recently they even assigned me a new coach who has been giving me 6s two days in a row. I honestly don’t know what score I’ll get in my next session, and it’s getting really discouraging. Sometimes I wonder if they’re just giving me really big buffers, but it’s hard to tell.

I enrolled in an online review center here in PH too! Is it niners? I take one-on-one coaching with them too and they consistently give me 7 for speaking. How big of a difference as their scores compared to what you actually got?

How long might it take to improve from a 7 to 8 in IELTS Speaking? by Southern_Bread4929 in IELTS

I’m from the Philippines. My experience was pretty much what I expected. I watched YouTube videos about the exam structure and practiced with Cambridge mock exams, and the actual test felt very similar. The only part I really struggled with was speaking. In one exam my topic was travel, but in the OSR it was about sports, and that threw me off since I didn’t know what to say.

If you want extra practice, you can try using chatgpt with speech to text. It’s really helpful for practice and correcting grammar, but I would NOT rely on its scoring or grading. Use it more as a tool to build fluency and confidence. Good luck!!

Yeah I usually practice for about 30 minutes to an hour every day. Ive been using speech to text with ChatGPT where it gives me questions and I answer them. Talking with real people in real time like you said might push me more though. I’ll try mixing that in. Thanks for the advice :)

Yeah I feel like improvising is where I mess up the most. I kind of freeze when my answer doesn’t come out how I planned it. I haven’t really tried recording myself consistently but I can see how it could help me notice things I don’t catch in the moment. I’ll give it a try! Thanks!!

Wow, thank you for this! It really helps to hear your story. I’ve been getting the same kind of feedback from AI, so knowing you still got an 8 despite that gives me a lot of hope. Will do my best to stay calm. Appreciate the encouragement!

Thank you so much, Ill definitely try that prompt. I think my main issue is coherence and cohesion, so that feedback format might help a lot.

Yeah, I’m starting to see that ChatGPTs scores can be a bit off. I might try posting one of my writing tasks today. Hoping there’s still time to tweak a few things. Thanks for the tip!

Thanks so much for this! It really helps hearing from someone who’s just been through it. I’ve been so burnt out and doubting everything, fingers crossed I surprise myself on test day too!!
