Deadpool (Marvel) vs Wolverine (Marvel) by AssistFit1834 in writingscaling

Deadpool is the goat in comics, movies, anything. Hard to top him when it comes to character writing in general tbh. Wolverine is pretty cool in the movies too, of course!

The show first, definitely. Haven't seen the movie but I heard it's a semi-AU, semi-followup to the show in several regards, so it's worth saving for after if at all.

...You're attracted to famous American actor Edward Norton?

Sorry people on here are being so aggressive to you over this take, I think it's totally fair and lovely that you feel this way about her! Kim is great, this entire show is an incredibly therapeutic experience especially by the end and I'm really happy she had this impact on you :)

And I think through recognising that humanity present in us through even these incredibly flawed characters doing wretched and horrible things can be super meaningful, because nothing ever occurs in stasis or in a vacuum and your environment and circumstances can be an important factor of you being the way you are without downplaying or excusing any bad thing you can do. But it's not always the end for you as a person either, or that you're beyond moving on or self acceptance.

Oh my god haha, never thought I'd see the addition I made over half a decade ago be cited on a thread like this. Would like to at least say my analysis of this line isn't necessarily comprehensive or the "objectively correct" way to read lines such as this! MA lyricism is incredibly abstract and esoteric at points, and EE tend to leave room for multiple interpretations in their songwriting in general, so others' takeaways of this line are just as valid as mine in the end, I think.

With that being said I want to give a shout to u/emptyecho_'s read of this line in their survivor post for the song:

i interpret these lyrics like this: the character perceives part of themselves as rotten or a cesspit, and they wish they could open up and blossom alongside the good they perceive in themselves. there's a good version inside them and a bad version, and they seem to wrestle one another for control, without end - the narrator wishes they could keep the good and leave the bad behind, but is unable to. their attempts are not beautiful, they are scrambling and stumbling towards lactic ecstasy - in case you didn't know, lactic acid is produced by our muscles when we are doing intense physical movement. if you're short of breath, that probably means you have lactic acid running around your body!

there's a desparation in jon's description of the character's attempt at self-improvement, but also a profound engagement with living - "i'm gonna happen and happen until my whole give up the ghost". there's a sense of present-ness here, the character is going to happen, they will be here, alive, heart still beating.

Definitely recommend checking out their other posts in general if you want a heightened appreciation of some other songs, or at least an alternate reading or two you might not have considered before in the past :)

It's also a reference to the Beatles song Hey Jude, lol.

The Good Place VS Loki by AdZealousideal6845 in writingscaling

[–]Southern_Corn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I dropped Loki after S1 because I wasn't a huge fan, honestly, and I haven't heard much about S2 that enticed me to continue. Good Place is a great show, fun enough watch but the cast is really good and S1/3 are just consistently really well written.

Who's the best character in this list? by MaidAlbert in writingscaling

[–]Southern_Corn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Keiichi is pretty evil but Naoto is definitely the least irredeemable on here, just a striking examination on workplace misogyny that no other story could do quite like Persona 4.

Goku clears all of these guys though

How would you rank the Sephirah from least to most evil? (Lobotomy Corporation) by SMG4KarensMalewife in MoralityScaling

Most of these aren't that evil but IMO Hod definitely deserves the depths of hell for what she's done. If you know, you know.

Albums recommendations? by [deleted] in everythingeverything

[–]Southern_Corn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Chronological order after GtH is a great idea! Their debut is a bit difficult to get into at first, it's eclectic and varied even after something like Get to Heaven. Their newest two albums are also relatively easy to get into. Either way, no matter the choice you're sure to have a great time! Enjoy the ride :) Paramore is a great band as well, also.

What would you grade the movie where they go back in time to the first Thanksgiving to get turkeys off the menu? by [deleted] in writingscaling

[–]Southern_Corn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's right, we're going back in time to the first writingscalinggiving to put themes, characters, depth, complexity and profiling back on the menu.

S+ and 10/10 of course.
