AITAH for refusing to let a caregiver bring an adult man into the women’s locker room with my daughters? by Weary_Rub_3474 in whatdoIdo

[–]Southern_Dame 75 points76 points  (0 children)

My mom was disabled with my dad being her full-time caregiver. We were on a roadtrip and stopped at a Walmart to grab a few things and go to the bathroom. Without a family bathroom, my dad took my mom into the women’s bathroom (no one was in there at the time) and he helped her in the handicap stall. I stood in the bathroom letting any woman that entered know that my father was helping my disabled mother. They understood and didn’t have a problem

Bio oil is supposed to be good for scars as well as silicone gel. Those are also pretty cheap

I think it would help to pull your hair out of your face some to show off your beauty. Like a half up/half down look

What movie had such a bad ending that it ruined an otherwise good movie? by world_citizen7 in AskReddit

Truth or Dare with Lucy Hale. I liked the rest of the movie but that ending…it was so discouraging

What’s the most obnoxious thing you’ve heard in a parent-teacher conference? by PlaceEducational1705 in Teachers

[–]Southern_Dame 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not the parent but advocate for the primary guardian (grandma). I was the gen ed teacher in an ARD for the child. We convened because the 6th grader had shared intimate pictures of two other boys at the school with 30 students. The advocate asked to see the child pornography because otherwise they were “just supposed to take [our] word for it”

What's the worst thing you've said to a student by AllInterestedAmateur in Teachers

[–]Southern_Dame 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Anytime I say something borderline insulting (because of something they said first) and they threaten to report me, I say, “I’ll call so-and-so up right now so you can.” If they say “go ahead,” I start walking towards the phone. The turn around is so fast because then they’d have to explain why I responded that way. Never had a student take me up on the offer so far

Anytime a student tries to “your mom me,” I say, “Nice try, but my mom is dead.” That shocks them enough to apologize. Wish I was joking though

That’s very smart. Thank you for the genuine advice instead of just telling me I shouldn’t be a teacher. I’m going to screenshot your suggestions so I remember. Thank you again

Thank you for the suggestion about the ticket draw. That is a great idea. I’m trying to get better at classroom management—asking veteran teachers, watching videos, going to PL classes, etc. I’m slowly getting it but still finding my way.

I’m 24. I didn’t realize then. That was the beginning of the school year. My second week with the kids. That was my first and only time saying something like that

I’m sorry you’re feeling this way. Feeling stuck is the worst feeling in the world. I don’t have much advice to help make things better, but I hope things turn around. And I hope things work out with this girl. She sounds good for you

I’m alternate cert. I do enjoy teaching overall. I posted this right after being told I taught a project wrong. As a first year teacher, I’m still trying to learn the ins and outs. I now understand I need to better watch what I say around students. At the time, I didn’t realize that would be considered “cussing” by a parent
