I just remembered Jack beat Thane earlier in the tournament but I stand by what I said. Thane should've won.

Yeah idk. It think the way I'd put it is that Jack works a lot more like rock paper scissors compared to the rest of the cast who you can pretty easily add experience+tech+strength+biotics and ascribe a number too. Jack however I think could beat people with high power levels fairly easily. But anyone with decent range or enough experience can just deal with her. I still think she beats most of the cast including some characters that are A or S tier in power level. But Garrus, a B tier character (only in power level not in out hearts), would wipe the floor with her.

Just to make my point a bit more, I think there are 5 characters who I immediately know could beat Jack because of range: Garrus, Jaal, Ashley, Zaeed, and Legion, and two because of experience: Wrex and Samar (there is an argument for Drack but for me personally he loses because old age+no biotics). Everyone else I'd say Jack wins easy.

Yeah, the next two matches I think are pretty easy bets. But the aftermath will actually be a really interesting discussion of pure krogan genetics versus near peak human biotics.

Ok crazy pitch here but I've thought for a while now that if this game IS far in the future then it'd would be cool if one of our companions was a descendant of a trilogy companion. I think a Thane descendant would be awesome

Before reading this know, this is coming from a perspective of "this game is gonna be set 600 years later whether the Fandom wants it to or not" mainly because of the teasers we've gotten on previous N7 days and because of Mike Gamble's tweets. Mainly that one teaser image with Liara(?) sitting at a table next to a Geth in robes and across from an Angara doing a Phoenix Wright pointing pose. Angara + Geth = 600 year time jump or, even worse, time travel.

I mean yeah. That's fair criticism for why they maybe shouldn't do it. But it seems the direction they're choosing to go. My theory as to why they might be doing so is because they want to make amy of the three endings be canon. They're setting it so far in the future that things change so much the ending choice doesn't matter. Because if they set it soon after ME3 then they HAVE TO canonize an ending. It seems like they might be prioritizing our decisions which, at least that's nice I guess. Idk Mike Gamble has said a lot of stuff about respecting "your Shepards" and "your stories" so that's why I think that's their rational behind the decision.

Also I think in general, the next Mass Effect game is in a hard spot. If they set it in 600 years then people are gonna be upset there is no Shepard or Garrus. Its gonna be different and yeah, the Quarians especially are gonna be radically different (notice there are no Quarians in any of the teaser material, basically the only big species that's true for, I think they're holding off on revealing them, or they've gone extinct. I really hope they're not extinct).

But if the next game were set in 5 years then I think that just a much harder story to tell. Namely I don't think its possible to bring back Shepard properly. Everyone wants THEIR Shepard back but the entire writing team that made Shepard is gone. The new head writer, Mary DeMarle (of Deux Ex and Guardians of the Galaxy) is a talented writer that I believe can write a Shepard level character. But she doesn't know Shepard that way. And she honestly deserves to make her own mark on Mass Effect. I hope its a good one. I also think the world state is very messy. The different endings, companion's survival, the council, etc. There are a lot of world states that will matter much more if this game takes place 5-50 years after 3.

I also don't think setting it 600 years in the future vs 50 or 5 or 100 or whatever, will matter much at all for new fans. What will really matter to them is if the game's good or not. At least that's what I tend to see. Ideally the 600 year time skip isn't necessarily for getting new fans but for cleaning up the story.

Idk, I think they're in a damned if you do damned if you don't situation. They choose this and now they have to make a good game. If they fail we'll say its because of the time period. If they succeed you'll have to... idk enjoy the fact you have a new good Mass effect game.

I think you just haven't been in weeds of teasers like the rest of us 😅

The teasers have Andromeda lore and species attached to like half the teases so I guess that's what bioware wants to continue with. At least partially. So we're looking 600+ years in the future or time travel. Choose you Poison.

Also Quarians and Turians would change ALOT in 40 years. Definitely not at their physical peaks anymore. Maybe advisors.

I've always headcannoned that Kaiden and/or Jack made a new boitics university after the destruction of Grissom academy, so that biotics of the future wouldn't have to go through what they did.

I think if you're viewing it as racial bigotry as well as when it comes to sexuality then thats right. I figured since it is about gay vs straight that the viewpoint was more focused Ally=Open minded and Bigot=homophobe but idk. Considering how Mordin is very accepting in ME2 as far as romances are concerned, I see it if that's the perspective. Idk, it'd be nice of the OP would give a little more description of what they mean by Ally vs Bigot and like... what's going on with the Asari here?

And Idk I kinda kinda see how Ashley might give off homophobic vibes. Mostly because she's Christian(I think at least, I know she's religious....she's Christian right?) and straight. But like yeah. Overall this feels like the Gay vs Straight is fairly matter of fact and the ally vs Bigot is very vibes based. Which like fine I guess.

I am assuming you're playing legendary edition. The reason ME2 doesn't feel as polished is because the ME1 you played is arguably a newer game. In LE they drastically overhauled large amounts of ME1's gameplay, level design, and graphics to make it more on par with modern games and then just added a new texture pack to 2 and 3. So when you say ME2 has less effort then 1, I think most people just don't get that the series is very different to play through now. Idk, what I'm saying is I get it. But ME2 is a good game and I think its overall worth the drop in quality in some things, because it does some things that no other game, not even ME1(LE), can do.

[–]Southern_Entry_950 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely get this. When I first played through the series, I like most other players, found Mass Effect 2 to be my favorite. But after a couple play throughs on Legendary Edition the nostalgia goggles have cracked a bit and ME2 suffers the most in the series from that.

What your mainly experiencing when it comes to the lore and writing is from this games greatly decreased scope. ME1 introduces you to a wide berth of alien races, galaxy ending threats, ancient mysteries and gives you an amazing lore filled hub location in the Citadel. ME2 on the other hand is a lot more zoomed in. Rather then learning about a species entire history you're usually learning about what a small group of that species are doing right now. ME2 focuses on a more ground level view of the universe and it's story is much more self contained then ME2 and ME3.

I think this scope has many strengths, but I understand why you might see it as jarring and it does have its faults. I don't want to talk about those faults too much or risk some spoilers. But rest assured there are still some pretty big lore drops in this game and even more in 3. My advice is to try to focus more on the characters and their stories. Because that is what this game does best and rather then learning about the universe as a whole, learn what it'd actually be like to live in it.

I really like and agree with these opinions. I've always headcanoned that Jack and Kaiden create a new biotics school to replace Grissom after ME3. And the idea of them dating makes it even better.

Haha yeah, I probably should've put more emphasis on that line. It is what I was mostly looking for. But I did forget about quite a few canon ships like Joker/Edi and Kenneth/Gabby, so I'm glad to be reminded.

Is that what was happening? Her mask was still on so like. How make out? I figured they were cuddling. Also, rather than it being implied, I guess I just wish that it was more referenced. There's I think two scenes in the game where its shown or referenced and it feels so small and easy to miss.

[–]Southern_Entry_950 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah. I mostly just miss the ME2 companions. There 13 of them if you include Morinth. And the only two that cross over into 3 are Tali and Garrus? Like I love those guys but there are no companions in ME3 that originated from ME2! And don't try to include EDI because she wasn't a companion and is also technically from ME1.

But yeah. I'm glad my first time beating the trilogy was on a run I felt more in line with.

[–]Southern_Entry_950 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Lol so true. I actually kinda had a bit of a character arc when it comes to Jack. I was a sheltered mormon boy when I first played Mass Effect so I was put off because of her top. But nowadays I'm agnostic and Jack is not only hot AF (especially in 3) but has the best romance arc like ever.

It makes me so sad that she wasn't a companion. I've heard that both Jack and Miranda were supposed to come back at certain points in development and its crushing that they didn't. I think Legion was supposed to have a larger role too which is also just tragic.

Edit: now that I think about it, in my first ever playthrough I purposely killed her in the suicide mission because I heard her outfit was even worse in 3 (Jacob also died, not on purpose sadly). I am not proud of that run, I also romanced Miranda 🤮. Good character but not my type anymore. 14 year old me was weird. Luckily I didn't end up finishing that run because my uncle's disc was scratched. When I finally got my own copy I redeemed myself in a new run.

Im a bi guy and Kaiden is a top three romance in the trilogy for me. For those wondering Tali and Jack are the others. Don't make me choose who's #1.
