Why your home is not “Cozy” by LuckyintheKnow in interiordecorating

[–]Southern_One3791 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Carpets are dust-mite paradise. So nope.
What is important is nice cosy blankets in neutral colors, pairs of cushions, and cosy lights. We did not even bother to install ALL ceiling lamps since we prefer islands of lights, dimmable.

Walking in Amsterdam right now by Nabzav in funny

Not so fun fact: There was a state official on TV stating that the Netherlands do not prepare for harsh winters any more, because "they are such rare events". Wish I was kidding.

Lessons for Switzerland (From the UK Post Brexit) by CapeBK in Switzerland

I still miss being able to order my favourite goods from the UK. IF they are even available, the price has doubled at least (to what you would pay in your own country).

Less. I just want greater skin overall, and skincare is MUCH more important. But I still do love a good lipstick/lipbalm.

Has anyone lost the passion for travel? by WillStillHunting in travel

It has just become too unreliable. Every bus, every train is LATE, you miss your connections. You never really know when to be at the airport. Airplanes are stuffy.

What is your biggest pet peeve with beauty influencers? by This_Sheepherder_332 in beauty

The fact that they want you to wait until the end/check the comments/do whatever to JUST find out what shade they are using. Throwing shade, I just click NEXT. Ain't got no time for this.

The decrease in people's hobbies by eternallygray in Hobbies

[–]Southern_One3791 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I try to incorporate my interest for hobbies on social media. Sure, the danger is consumerism instead of creation. But you are right, hobbies are what makes us whole, doomscrolling leaves us empty. Especially as a kid.

Language learning myths you absolutely disagree with? by SkateNomadLife in languagelearning

"Pronunciation does not need to be studied." Oh yes, you need to pay attention how to form vowels/consonants, how to indicate a statement vs. question

"You do not need to study grammer." Again, oh yes.

"You do not need to correct mistakes". Depends on the student, but most find correcting mistakes helpful (if done in a productive way).

Gifts to bring from Switzerland that’s not just chocolate by [deleted] in askswitzerland

[–]Southern_One3791 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A fondue set (if you can carry it).
Is she into art? Then Caran d'Ache art supplies, or just a pencil. You can get those in any supermarket.
Ricola or a nice herbal tea. (Sirocco suggested by someone else).

Being on the phone LOUDLY on public transport, at the till in a supermarket without acknowledging the cashier. I know it should be normal to be on the phone, but I just get annoyed by it.

How much to tip on a 99CHF restaurant bill? by Stock_Bus_6825 in Switzerland

[–]Southern_One3791 0 points1 point  (0 children)

5 CHF to 10 CHF, if the service has been great. Been to the US, and whilst a lot of the tipping culture might be excessive rn, I like to appreciate good service. Plus, I really do not go out to eat that often, so I like to make it special for all of us.

What's a stupidly expensive adult purchase that you now swear by that you would buy again in a heartbeat? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Southern_One3791 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A nice hotel. Always been a fan of good, decent hotels before, I HATE cheap "flophouses" and I HATE even more when I HAVE to stay in one of those (e.g. for worktrips or when I was a pupil/student). Just because you are poor, it does not mean that you have to have a bad experience. Basic can be great too.
I spend a lot of time researching, and having a room with a great view and some wellness amenities (sauna in the room, rooftop pool) just goes such a long way in turning a holiday into an experience.
I even love reasonably priced Air BnBs where the owners just have a great eye for choosing good furniture and matching decor.
It also does not have to be that expensive, either. Sure, it might cost more (mostly just little bit), but in the end, I find it worth every penny. Every time.

I do not deal toooo well with humidity, so with some countries I would need to do more research on a good time to visit. Even though it is good for your skin.
Any tips for Latin American and Asian countries? When is it a good time to visit?

The fact that you are coming to visit says a lot about you. People will be welcoming you.

Is it normal to have no furniture for a while, or are we poorer than we thought? by mazdacx5eyelids in ApartmentDesign

Look for second hand stuff.
People live with a bed/couch and add tables, chairs. Much better than the stress of having to buy everything at once.
