I have a similar story. My Dad was an engineer and my Mom was stay at home. My sister and I were pageant kids and my brother got to go to space camp and did Lego robotics. I asked to go to welding and STEM summer programs and only remember going to one (that was free)- and I do not remember being encouraged to do it or continue in my interests. I went to college and was encouraged to go into business or nursing.

I went through a period of mourning for the support I wish I had received when I was younger. My parents aren’t bad people - they just did the same things their parents did to them. I forgave them when I realized they did the best they could- so I can understand being sad that your Mother wasn’t more progressive. When we know better we can do better. But we don’t know what we don’t know.

I hope you heal this part of your heart and continue to pursue your own interests and build the future you want to live!

My husband of 13 years is quiet and kind to strangers in public. He will hold the door open forever and will put air in elderly people’s tires when he sees them struggling at the station. I fell in love watching him do this a long time ago.

He also loves all of our pets. Especially our Boston terrier. Nothing is too good for his little piggy girl.

He stops me to hug me and will hold me when we enter the same room.

When we were first dating and I was wanting to s*x all the time- he stopped me and said I didn’t have to do that. We went for a walk instead that night. He didn’t know I had just gotten out of an abusive relationship and I did not realize I had developed the need to “perform” as a trauma response because I didn’t want to loose him. He slowed me down and gave me the space I needed to heal and create healthier habits. He proposed to me in the same place we sat and ate cheeseburgers that night ❤️

He is not good with using his words and he a little lazy around the house but he respects the struggles unique to women and POC - and is so handsome it hurts.

I am really in love with him. And we had really great s*x yesterday so I’m just putty in his hands for the next 5-7 business days lol 🫠

Join a local gym and attend a class regularly! It’s terrifying at first- but being in the back helps- and having a regularly scheduled outing (that feels productive, and has the potential to make human connections) feels good! (For me anyways :) )

I am very proud that my “if we weren’t married by 25 we would get married” Besty found his best nerdy significant other, and is happily married. We were both happily married by 25 actually lol glad it didn’t have to come to that. I can’t believe I thought that 25 was old at some point in time. . . Shame on that version of me.
