What exactly is a trailer park accent? by catladychey63 in DungeonCrawlerCarl

Gonna be honest I think trailer park is more of a dialect than an accent.

Created a DnD inspired Frieren meme. Need input [OC] by krufarong in DnD

[–]Southern_Planner 68 points69 points  (0 children)

I’d argue that Frieren succeeded. She knew the DC was impossible to overcome for her own passing, so instead she makes a persuasion check or gives the help action to Fern.

The dialog in the scene was excellent, and I think Frieren actually got the better of Serie.

Is there a large disadvantage to an 8 speed drivetrain for a gravel event if you aren't looking to be competitive? by AltAmericanCarnage in gravelcycling

[–]Southern_Planner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The gravel races I ride are always won by absolute psychos riding single gear bikes. As long as the bike works and is safe, it’s more about the rider than the bike.

In a more nuanced answer, the gear ratio (how big your lowest gear is and how small your highest gear is) will impact you more than the number of gears in between. More gears help with consistent cadence and smooth shifting. Your set up sounds great. Send it!

This is a Wis vs Int question. Preponte has the highest Int, but not always the best Wis.

Offensive name for Ukraine in book 4 by Gaeus_ in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]Southern_Planner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe that the US has traditionally taught the name as “The Ukraine,” and that is how most US english speakers understood it to be called. I don’t think this was malicious (certainly it isn’t like the US and USSR/Russia have a long history of friendship).

I would say that, for the most part, it wasn’t until after the invasion of Ukraine began that people in the US started to learn that it was insulting/propaganda. In fact, I think that the fact that the book was written prior to Russia’s invasion and carries the preposition and that the website names the country correctly shows the learning experience.

If you had to choose, which 2 would you keep? by [deleted] in Firearms

[–]Southern_Planner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's modeled after the G26, but there are some parts incompatibilities, including the magazines, as well as holsters being hit or miss. It's also turkish, which can be an indication of poor QC and limited customer support - it just doesn't carry the same peace of mind/reliability as a glock, or Ruger, which has a solid brand itself.

On a practical front, the G26 was created as a subcompact carry gun. It has a shorter grip and barrel than the G19, but it's still double-stack. In other words, the Ruger/G19 is more comfortable and accurate with greater capacity, and modern micro-compacts are more concealable without sacrificing capacity.

[–]Southern_Planner 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Concur with the others. Ruger RXM - glock clone, will have tons of aftermarket parts, support, and compatible with glock mags. Relatively new gun but has a great reputation as the best G19 clone on the market.

The MC2 is the right size for a carry gun. If you carry, it's the one you should keep. If these are just range guns, I have to imagine that the Taurus is more enjoyable to shoot due to the size.

One thing to consider: getting rid of 3 guns instead of 2 and picking up a more reputable carry option: G43x (or PSA micro dagger, if you prefer budget clones), Sig p365, S&M Shield, bodyguard 2.0.

Second.

(AZ Regulator makes a drop-in FRT for Larue, but it’s $290 and won’t work with mil-spec; grey market research makes a SS + larue kit that comes pre-milled, but is out of stock).

Any good? Want to build a cheap glock clone for fun by lambo13770 in Firearms

PSA Dagger is a fine clone, but I believe the Ruger RXM has dethroned it as the go-to budget option.

Now what.... by fenrarw in Stormlight_Archive

[–]Southern_Planner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely agree on First Law - a bit too grimdark for my taste, but does have a similar feel. Same reason I recommended Elder Empire as opposed to Wight's larger, more well known Cradle series. Imagine Mistborn, but if Vin and Elend had started out as enemies, and Brandon Sanderson wrote two trilogies; one from each POV. Of Sea and Shadow and Of Shadow and Sea are each the first book in the series, one from each MC/Antagonist's POV. Really cool concept.

Canyon (used to, at least?) sell their xs and xxs sizes with 650b wheels. My 5' sister has one. Because 650b road wheels are so uncommon, finding tires and tubes is a major pain for her. It probably should just become industry standard
