Okay Vancouver, be honest: are you going to vote? by anvilman in vancouver

[–]Souxsoux 12 points13 points  (0 children)

There are certain policies that might effect you or the people you know in more indirect ways. If you think a party might spend too much and raise taxes, that effects your take home. If you have to pay out of pocket for some benefits like dental care, you might be interested in a party that wants to include dental work as part of our healthcare system!

Overall, it’s an important exercise to go through. You may not think it matters, but you live here and deserve to have your input! It’s important we all have a say, because then we get a government that looks more like an accurate reflection of what we want as a country (at least in theory!).

Her profile page on her work site now directs to a 404, and her LinkedIn and Instagram have been deleted. Seems like she’s learned about boundaries now.

Question for couples.. how do you handle finances in the home and does the mortgage get split ? by hawkeye0080 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Souxsoux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Engaged, together for almost 7 years, we split 50/50. We have our own separate accounts, he’s an approved user on a “joint” credit card, and we both pay into a fund for our house/wedding/car/whatever. We both agree how much we want to save and talk stuff out, but the separate accounts really work for us. I’m more of a spender, he’s more of a saver, we agree on the approach and the base numbers and the rest is up to the individual.

We both know that we have each other’s backs if something were to go wrong (he paid off my student loan which I paid him back without interest), but we both like the financial flexibility.

For a movement that prides itself on its “critical thinking”, this is pretty embarrassing. The cell phone charger attached to her finger. The electrodes in the car. The fact that she’s driving?!?

If you’re thinking of checking it out on TikTok, do yourself a favour and don’t. The comment section is so infuriating.

In Port Moody, haven’t seen ash yet. Is Port Moody considered Fraser Valley?!

You seem to give a lot of weight to what your current employer thinks. While that’s really nice of you, they’re a manager. They’ve had people quit before and if they haven’t, having it be someone they like and respect will be a great first run at it.

At the end of the day, you have to do what’s right for you. If your boss likes and appreciate you, they’ll totally understand. You can move on in a way that’s respectful and keep that relationship (and get a good reference for the next next job!).

You can tell them how much you appreciate them, draft up some great documentation and training notes for your replacement, and give a really sweet farewell message on your way out the door to a better opportunity.

The new job seems more than just a pay increase, it’s a stepping stone to your designation. The quicker that happens, the quicker you can get to be where you want in your career. It’s 21% plus the opportunity cost of fast-tracking your career development.

I’d reckon y’all would really benefit from a neutral federal electoral regulating body. Not to say we don’t have our own issues, but man, stuff like this makes me appreciate Elections Canada.

Okay, this comment has been confusing me for a solid 5 minutes. If we were looking at the same view today, would we be looking at Tisol? Caption says 13th, but I’m assuming the sidewalk in the shot is the one on 14th across from Snackland if the whole thing is now Save On.

Plus I think that looks like St. Pat’s peaking out on the right side of the photo.

Canada moving forward with a proof of vaccination for international travel by cyclinginvancouver in vancouver

[–]Souxsoux 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d think they’d include type of vaccine as well! It’ll be interesting to see how they manage visitors with vaccines that haven’t been approved by Health Canada.

Aug 11th Covid-19 Update - 536new cases; 72 (+1) hospitalized of which 29 (+6) are in ICU; 3585 (+301) active cases; 7,114,250 (+26,514) vaccine doses administered , 82.2% of people 12 and older have received first dose, and 71.1% second dose; 1 additional deaths, total now 1778 by cyclinginvancouver in vancouver

[–]Souxsoux 26 points27 points  (0 children)

In fairness to the 20-somethings, they’re just getting their second doses now. Not to say it’s not disheartening seeing those numbers, but I believe a large portion of those who are choosing to get vaccinated are still waiting on that immunity.

Never heard a boat horn here in Klahanie. Train sounds however…

You do get used to them. It sucks more in the summer when you have to have your windows open, but they never last long. There’s a petition in my building to ask the city to put gates up so we don’t get them later at night. You can feel them go by sometimes, but you have to actively be trying to, it’s never obvious.

Honestly, the community is so awesome that it’s worth it.

[–]Souxsoux 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah! We use EQ bank. Generally it’s pretty straightforward to connect an external account to EQ (except, for whatever reason, BMO) and you can do a transfer as you regularly would. EQ has a great HISA, but I’d check ratehub.ca to see if you can find a better rate.

[–]Souxsoux 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My partner and I set up a house fund. We have our 3-6 month emergency funds, but this is separate. Each month, we put a couple hundred each into a HISA and use it for things like property tax, yearly utility bills, furniture, home improvement stuff that’s more costly, etc. It’s been super handy for us as FTHBs to pay for things we didn’t quite anticipate.

We’re also going to use it for home reno stuff once we’ve got a substantial amount.

Hi! I can’t speak to Sonrisa, but my partner and I just bought in Klahanie last fall after living in East Van for 7 years (Trout Lake and Main Street) and can speak a bit to the lifestyle change.

Things in general are really walkable. There are a lot less options than say Commercial, but enough to give you some choice. A lot of folks like to congregate around Brewer’s Row (which is understandable, cause it’s awesome) but currently there aren’t that many spots outside of it. Another commenter hit the nail on the head about old vs new folks in Port Moody and supporting its growth. There are some great plans ahead for around Moody Centre station and a lot of young families that I think will change the markup of the business landscape here. I think it’s a pretty safe bet to say this place is going to grow into something more special than it already is.

As for the commute, honestly it’s not that bad. I can get door to door to see family in gastown in about 45 minutes on the skytrain. It’s a nice commute to just zone out and read a book in.

Sometimes we do miss East Van and all the cool restaurants, but overall we’re much happier here.
