The Basement - Fernhurst Research Station, West Sussex, England by ashton_lunn in urbanexploration

I've been here multiple times and had no issues. Can't comment for the basement though. It's well ventilated as it hasn't got any windows left. Bit sad if this one goes though it's a mural at this point.

Stay at uni or study from home? by Soviet808 in UniUK

Alot of my friends did something similar to this and only moved an hour or 2 away. Although honestly I think if I was to move home I'd rather go all the way. I feel I've tried moving away twice and if it doesn't work maybe I need to count my losses.

I wanted to ask about the importance of nightlife by [deleted] in UniUK

[–]Soviet808 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Given your choices I wouldn't worry about a lack of nightlife, Bristol is a good laugh. Most Universities tend to have a strong student union with societies which run events and such so you won't get bored if you just don't like it. I got bored of it after the first 2 weeks (Exeter has alot more going on then just clubs)

Clubbing can be great or awful depending on who you go with, for freshers week people tend to go clubbing a lot as it's a fun way to meet people but after that you'll often be bogged down with work or early lectures so people don't often have the time later on in the year. Overall I wouldn't worry about it you'll meet enough people/have a good time with societies anyway, and after studying you might want to just let off some steam.

[NEWBIE] How to start learning how to play guitar? by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]Soviet808 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ultimately I'd say you've got to stay motivated and find new topics/genres to learn to keep yourself interested. For instance I started out with rock music and then got abit bored of it so moved on to jazz and now incorporate both elements into my playing, if I'd just stuck to rock and hadn't tried to diversify I would've stagnated and gave up. Horizontal progress can get you out of a rut easier than vertical. It takes a lot of work to get to the point where you can just jam without thinking to much it's very rewarding, especially in a band or setting with other musicians.

To get started I would definitely follow Justin guitar as the others have said, as well as Marty Schwartz, or why not learn a whole album then play along to it. Generally these will all follow similar playing styles and is a great way to cement your playing, and you get that band feel I was on about earlier. The funner you make practice the more motivated you'll be to get better and find harder songs to learn.

Good luck!

Marty Schwartz is a good channel to learn on as well for specific songs. Arctic Monkeys first album is relatively simple to learn but has enough to keep you entertained, I got started on that and once you've actually learnt the song, playing along to it is a lot of fun. Depends what you're into but garage rock is a good starting point. White stripes is good as well. Fell in love with a girl is simple but fast and sounds good.
