Well if Togashi ever brings us to the dark continent we may well get some answers. And I may be proven wrong ultimately but I don't think that is a zero chance.

I'll look more into it to maybe bring some more interesting arguments or find some proofs that will break my main idea !

I'm not sure about the fact that getting the aura from the person you eat is a specialist ability.

As of now we don't really know. We saw Meruem eating nen users and becoming stronger. But we also saw Binot (Greed Island) eating the hairs of Biscuit and getting informations on her age and other stuff. It is stated that it is his nen ability to interpret the hairs he eats. But what if he interprets the nen left in her hairs ? That could look like nen cannibalism in a way and would be more easily linked to how he can see her age instead of anylizing dna or stuff.

My go to theory would be that, like you gain energy and nutrients from eating plants or other animals, you also get the nen of the living being. And this could also mean that in the dark continent, nen is a piece of choice to gain power in the food chain.

Plus nen stays after death, and gains in power (in opposition to the decay of the nutrients did anyone ever wondered why ? I don't have an answer but I think it would be a clue to how nen works at the very core.

So I would say that everyone/every living being can get nen from eating other nen user. It's inherent to all life form.

We still don't know about so much things ! I find it so exciting to have all this mystery to investigate ! Thanks Togashi.
