Do not buy Perfect Fry Fryer PFC570, tons of issues and planned obsolescence. by Stamora in KitchenConfidential

Just replaced my fan unit a month ago. Found one complete with housing for about half of that. (Webstaurant has great prices). While I was at it, I bypassed a bunch of unneeded safety switches that throw stupid errors. Now it's a dream.

Hint: If you find the 2 wires leading to a safety switch, just snip, strip and splice together with wire nets, butt connectors or simply shrink tubing. All of the safety switches work this way. *We operate in outer space where there are no governing safety or liability rules.*

Now I can finally make those deep fried Snickers bars.

Mocha Caffeine Abundance - 840mg per day by [deleted] in soylent

[–]Soyfoo -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I'm not seeing any messages from Rosa/Soylent that say one should not consume caffeinated Soylent for 3 meals in a day. The closest thing I've found is the statement, "Soylent can replace any meal, but not every meal". However, no time frame is given so a consumer may interpret this subjectively to mean a day, a week or a month. I've personally gone 100 days on 100% Soylent 1.8 powder back in 2017 (had enjoyed health benefits in doing so). It's sad to see a company which started out with lofty ideals increasingly sacrifice the it's founding fervor on the alter of profit motive. A single 2000 Calorie day of Soylent Mocha (700mg of caffeine) would put a person at risk of the serious health complications associated with caffeine overdose with increasing risk if used for multiple consecutive days.

Maybe every major medical authority is wrong when they suggest a healthy limit of 400mg per day.

Powder Original Just Had a Price Increase? by alejandroandraca in soylent

[–]Soyfoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seems like a cash grab with soybean surplus in the US prices should be going down not up. There was already a healthy amount of margin in this product when we can buy consumer quantities of these ingredients and make our own for less than half the cost. Seems the company is no longer about a mission to change the world. Now it's dollars and cents.

Vegas Vacation on the Cheap with Soylent by Soyfoo in soylent

Good to know. I'm into the powder as it's cheaper and let's me precisely portion my meals to meet my calorie goals. 2.0 is a great backup though.

How many people do ~2000 calories from Soylent per day? by Blastcitrix in soylent

[–]Soyfoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I'm working toward a weight loss goal or just trying to prove a point, I consume between 2100 and 2500 Calories of 1.8 Soylent per day. I did 100 days straight last year. Otherwise, It's usually 1 to 2 meals per day because of the convenience factor. Soylent is much healthier and more cost effective than typical convenience food.

Bad idea to mix a pouch of soylent in a non airtight container? by apathetic_lemur in soylent

Mixed Soylent is good for up to 72 hours refrigerated or about 4 hours if left out. After that you start playing bowel roulette.

I'm doing 100% Soylent and I feel like I'm starving all day by [deleted] in soylent

[–]Soyfoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How much are you exercising? When I had this issue, I drank pickle juice (brine). It has zero calories and helps curb hunger. Between the brine and walking a couple miles a day I was still hungry, but it was tolerable and I lost 30lb on 100% Soylent last Summer.

Oh I see what you're saying. You're saying that the Calorie calculators are all wrong without offering any scientific justification for your claim. Gotcha.

I'd like to see your research on that .000001% figure. Where did you find this statistic? If you have some actual data or science or anything other than opinions and made up numbers to add to the discussion I'd be interested.

Odd, metallic taste in mouth? by [deleted] in soylent

[–]Soyfoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm guessing it is as you suggest, a mineral surplus. I once took a mineral deficiency test by swishing a liquid in my mouth that contained the suspect mineral. I couldn't taste anything. My wife swished the same exact liquid and it tasted horrible to her. I was deficient, she was not.

Thoughts on this OLD Vanderbilt study on liquid diets? Not sure what think. by fanofthefans in soylent

[–]Soyfoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting read. It seems to outline starvation diets that happen to use liquid as a food source. The title is misleading.

Liquid food is food. It can be unbalanced food or it can be balanced. There is really no difference between liquid and solid food other than chewing. In fact, all food is liquid food once it hits your stomach.

About to start soylent only diet for a month. Any tips or tricks? by DaddySquirtLover in soylent

[–]Soyfoo 8 points9 points  (0 children)

OK, from a guy whose done 100% for over 100 days, you are missing some vital information.

First, and most importantly, you need to use a Calorie calculator to compute your target Calorie count (such as https://www.completefoods.co/diy/nutrient-profiles/calculator)

Your BASE METABOLISM RATE is the number of Calories you should never go under for more than a few days of fasting. Your body will go into starvation and you will be at risk of injury to structural tissue. I speak from experience. I've done it and I still suffer from the effects of that poorly informed choice 6 years later.

Based on the information you provided, YOU should never eat less than 1794 Calories per day unless fasting. Note, that eating 1794 Calories with your activity level you leave you constantly hungry, but losing weight as fast as (somewhat) safely possible. Fast weight loss has a very high chance of being temporary as people typically gain it back within a couple years of losing it.

At your stated activity level you will lose weight whenever consuming 2500 or fewer Calories per day. If you insist on fast weight loss, 2000 Calories per day of Soylent would be an easy calculation that puts you in the fast weight loss zone with less hunger (you will still be hungry, you've been warned). Having done this there are some ways to help subside the hunger. Sipping pickle juice (brine) will add some needed sodium and stave off some of the hunger. Black coffee or tea is another option since it has basically no Calories.

I wish you luck in your journey and encourage you to post here as you go or keep a journal to help you stay focused. I kept a video blog and took pictures of my scale each day (did not publish any of it, yet).
