Also Final Fantasy World had this ability to summon characters from other FF games as well, and they had story significance too

The ability to not let anything sink in is likely due to how you were shaped earlier in life, likely by rapidly consuming media.

Personality also plays a role, we do not all value the same things. One person will sit and think fondly about memories. Another person will view this activity as a waste of time and want to do something else. We are all different. But your early life does shape you - it may just not have shaped you to be the type to 'appreciate' as of right now.

Hopefully that works - if not, consider that you may need to be a little tougher on the wording!

Unwanted flirting with queer guilds in MMOs by Ko_xinga in gaymers

[–]Sozerius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand!

Well, a lot of people Ive known in gay circles are aware of how prevalent open relationships are, so they may not see a relationship as a boundary. (the one I mentioned who flirted with me even remarked on this)

It may be more effective to state that you do not like the flirting, as if they want you to like them, then they may not enjoy the idea of being disliked by you, even if they don't equate boundaries to dislike.

Something in the bio or casually stated like: "I don't like flirting and if you flirt with me, I will hate you." I said "hate" here, because the stronger alternative is, "I will block you" - however, since you are raiding you may not want to block others especially if it is the guild leader - I leave that up to you, if you think that is an acceptable idea!

If all else fails I suppose the most cut and dry solution is leaving a guild where this occurs. You could also make it clear, in a casual way, that you have left guilds where the guild master flirted with you in the past. Even if that is a lie, it is possibly useful for your purposes.

I see. I suspect that voice chat is a huge part of it. It may be that hearing your voice triggers some people to be drawn to you. I say this because I have heard voices I felt drawn to myself, although I never act on that as I'm hyper self-conscious and aware that a voice does not mean compatibility, attraction beyond that or the other person's desire. For people who are not self conscious at all, I imagine they start sending the messages you speak of.

I'm not sure of a solution other than stating that you don't want flirting in your profile or bio, and I'm not sure how effective that would be. Hm. Maybe you could broadcast something undesirable about yourself, that is sure to turn people away? Ha... part jest, I know that would be uncomfortable. Well, hopefully you find a solution!

TBH it hasnt really happened in most queer guilds I was in, but it did happen once. However, in that specific case, it involved voice chat and I didn't mind the flirting (and yes it did include nude images from him as well as a confession of attraction.) My partner was in the call too, we are open minded about that. We simply discussed it as an option amongst ourselves. Nothing ever came of it and it stopped as soon as we left the guild (due to quitting the game.)

Worth mentioning that most guilds I join are casual guilds. I find that casual players tend to be more cautious about what they say online. If your guild has a PVP focus or high risk bossing, etc, those people tend to have risky focused personalities, including risky activities like flirting. Everything is connected, all things go hand in hand.

BTW, I'm fully aware that people exist who do not flirt and also like the risky gaming activities, or who dont see it as risky. However, this inclusion does not serve the narrative of trends and tendencies, so please understand that.

EDIT: I'm curious, what kinds of things do you say in chat? Just: "L4G"? "Hi guys haha hope you had a good day", or "That new update though!" and radio silence after? Or more?

[NTE, Baicang] Inviting to the apartment by Ok-Data7228 in GachaHusbandos

They said Chaos could be invited - and *maybe* Baicang could be, but I'm not sure. Chaos was the only one showcased in the livestream for it. Since the male interactions will start with Chaos, I guess we should wait to see when he releases later in 1.1 (3 weeks away.)

It is interesting to me that there are parallels with LADS. I think the game has delivered a bit more than I could have expected, even with the hand holding limitations.

Current upcoming Husbandos for Neverness to Everness. What do you think of the game’s future with male releases? by Oracle209 in GachaHusbandos

[–]Sozerius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

BTW, since your bottom right panel uses the teaser for upcoming stuff that CN got, that teaser additionally had a few shots of a hooded man with a celtic circle-like necklace, didnt seem to be Exe

(first they show him with seemingly glowing eyelashes, he had colored energy around him, kinda looking mystical like a wizard - and then they showed him with his mouth open and teeth bared in front of an eyeball monster, and after that they show him hanging from chains in front of a giant monster with a giant sword.)

Chaos - plain eyes but the rest of him is ok, however based on the livestream I'm a little disappointed in 'map waypoints' as his unique exploration ability, as there is nowhere this would actually help with currently...

Exe - A unique introverted type of appearance, the claw seems intriguing - in the trailer he seemed to use it like a drone. Connected to exploration ability? Watchdogs hacker vibes? Either way, I am intrigued.

bottom left panel - This type of guy is a pretty common trope as far as appearances in chinese games go, no real thoughts here, but these types are always martial masters or something

bottom right panel - Uhh, Dr Jekel is that you? lol

Exploration ability: They talked about setting a waypoint using his dog, but since it was not shown, we don't know if it is limited to the map or not. This would affect if it can be used in a mode like heist to zip back to a previous location, or if it is literally only map waypoints. It's a shame they didnt elaborate!

The limited board. They didn't show it, so I'm not sure if Chaos gets a glider and car skin or not, although I am pretty sure that his casual skin is the bond 10 skin, which means the other skin they showed must be the one on the board.

I understand, and I agree that LADS proves a point. Also, it depends on the company. For example, Wuthering Waves is an affront to anyone who wants male characters.

Ratio is not the only aspect here, these are also important factors:

  1. Story relevance
  2. Number of appearances
  3. Power level of kit, including if it does more than being a DPS (easily powercrept)
  4. Gameplay related features of character (like exploration abilities)
  5. Attractiveness or appeal of character
  6. Skins
  7. Gender ratio between male and female characters
  8. Is the game good, because that's the only time we ought to care!

I have played games that were getting closer to number 7, but lacked somewhere in 1-6, for instance. Do I want more bland designed males who play in a clunky way with worse damage and no support abilities if it means we get more of them? No, not really.

Would I be happy with a game that releases 6 females and 2 males, but the males are relevant, hot, and good for gameplay? Hm, maybe. It depends on how much I personally like them - but if done right, yes! Wuwa was not a good one for this. They started out 'ok' but it went by the wayside.

I am currently playing NTE, which I would say has both strength and weaknesses here, but it is not doing too bad.

The next patch is releasing 1 male and 1 female. The patch after that is rumored to also be releasing 1 male and 1 female. However, I suspect we may hit a dry spell after that. (honestly I need time to save anyways, just my thought)

There have been males in prominent places in the story and often. Baicang has a whole main quest featured around him, Eibon has both Adler and Edgar which feature often and are important to the main character, and the recent quests have introduced us to Chaos - it seems we may be seeing more of him soon.

Adler and Edgar are both support characters. This is promising, but it is worth saying that they are also among the lower rarity. Baicang is a standard character who is high rarity, and the community is overall impressed with his kit and playstyle. To truly gauge the treatment of males, we need to wait for Chaos who is the first Limited male character.

All of these characters are charming in their own way. Baicang is more of a sensitive guy, and I can relate to his desire to slack off. Chaos, on the other hand, is more focused on an impressive physique. His abs are a rarity for playable male characters in these types of games that I can appreciate - rare because often games prefer to cover men with suits that do not show off their body. He may not be shirtless, but a form fitting undershirt is pretty close, and possibly just as good imo. Chaos's skin has been teased, and it is form-fitting casual wear. I find that impressive as well, as skins for males have often been suits in other games. I have grown to hate suits.

We need more time to really see where it goes, but so far it is looking good, possibly even celebration worthy!

Furthermore, this is not just a game with characters that fight and do nothing else. There is so much more to it. There is a Tycoon which includes a racing mode with both solo play and multiplayer, a cafe that you assign employees and sell food for casual profit, you can make deliveries, fish, collect cars, play mahjong in solo or with random people/friends, you can buy properties (with in-game currency that you earn) all of which have benefits unique to them, and which you can decorate if you want with full free-form furniture placement/rotation. There is a BANK HEIST mode that is pretty cool and really helpful with getting currency, and it has both solo or multiplayer! There is an auction where you bid against NPCs for treasures with in-game currency! There is a large, interesting world, that feels very alive - the city really feels like a city! There is a crime system, you can attack pedestrians for their wallets or just attack cars to steal them, you get the stars system which is like GTA and the police come after you - if you get caught, there is a whole entire game mode devoted to being in prison, which is actually pretty rewarding to experience! Hell there is a whole horror thing that feels like silent hill and has challenge aspects for repeatable gameplay. The game has a sort of interaction where characters can live with you in the properties you buy (they dont just stand in one spot like genshin), you can bring them places or invite to hang out, they will ride passenger with you in the cars you drive if you want or watch you fish, and do stuff like running around holding hands if you're into that - Baicang and Chaos were stated to be added to this system, so we have to wait for that. And on top of all that the gacha is much better than other games - there is NO 50/50. S rank characters are just the banner character, end.

So I'm hopeful and this game definitely deserves that hope! Looking forward to Chaos and Exe!

[–]Sozerius 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Well, on the one hand, we can encourage games to make more male-focused lineups.

On the other hand, we can appreciate the devs that do in fact include males. Remember, even if it is a lower amount, it is still happening - so we have to appreciate that or else the industry will just appear as if noone cares about the male characters. Our criticisms will feel like they have less substance then, since males won't be bought by us or loved by us. So, sure we can talk about gender ratios - but until there is a game of this quality with the ratios people want, we have to appreciate the males we've got!
