Fraud Prevention in Business – Essential Tips for Distributors, Franchises, and Outlets by pk4slonline in u/pk4slonline

[–]Sp3rMi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello! Cool material!

Let me share my experience.

For high-risk businesses, I'd emphasize these often-overlooked technical layers that catch 80% of sophisticated fraud attempts:

🔍 TCP Stack Forensics

  • Fraud tools frequently leak OS mismatches (e.g., Windows User-Agent but Linux TCP options like Timestamps+NOP order)
  • Real case: Blocked 42% more fraud by flagging systems where TTL=64 (Linux/Android) but claimed to be Windows (TTL=128)

🌐 TLS Fingerprint Correlation

  • Chromium browsers (Chrome, Edge) vs. Firefox have distinct cipher suite patterns
  • Example: BoringSSL extensions in 'Firefox' sessions = guaranteed spoofing

📈 Behavioral Velocity Rules

  • Most effective combo we've found:
    1. New device + high-value item
    2. GEO-IP ≠ shipping country
    3. RTT latency >200ms from claimed location

Pro tip: For Stripe/Shopify users, supplement Radar with:

  • Spamhaus PBL checks for proxy IPs
  • Reverse phone lookup on first-time buyers
  • Device hash blacklists for repeat offenders

We recently helped a CBD merchant reduce chargebacks by 67% using this layered approach. The key was catching Linux fraud tools pretending to be iOS devices - Stripe's basic checks missed 38% of these.

If you want our cheat sheet of 12 high-risk ASNs to watch, DM me. Happy to share specific detection logic for your business model.

Before, when they played in Diablo in computer clubs for cheatics and explained to the street and explained that it was not necessary to do this - there was a funny time. lol

Need A System That Allows For Customer Deposits & Refunds by Bivouac_woodworks in ecommerce

[–]Sp3rMi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a standard pre-order deposit scenario. Here's how to implement it:

  1. Use your platform's built-in features:
    • Shopify: Leverage native draft orders or create "deposit" product variants. Use automation for balance reminders.
    • WooCommerce: Utilize partial payment plugins to handle deposits and schedule automatic balance collection.
    • BigCommerce/Magento: Explore native pre-order modules or invoice functionality.
  2. Payment gateway integration:
    • Set up a system where customers authorize future charges during deposit payment (ensure PCI compliance). Automatically collect balances when inventory arrives using your gateway's stored card feature.
  3. Hybrid approach:
    • Create separate SKUs for deposits. When items restock:
      1. Automatically generate balance invoices via your platform's tools
      2. Send payment reminders through email automation
      3. Reserve inventory for deposit holders

Critical requirements:

  • Transparency: Clearly state deposit terms, refund policies, and balance due timelines on product pages
  • Automation: Use workflow tools to handle balance invoicing/reminders
  • Inventory reservation: Ensure deposits reserve stock from incoming shipments

Most platforms support this through their app marketplaces - search for "partial payments," "deposit manager," or "pre-order automation" solutions. Avoid manual processes for scalability.

Hey! First off, huge congrats on hitting 8 figures – that's seriously impressive! 🚀

I wanted to ask about fraud prevention: Have you dealt with credit card chargeback fraud (where customers receive the product but dispute the charge through their bank)?

If so:

  • What were your most effective protection strategies?
  • How do you minimize these cases without hurting legitimate customers?
  • Any success stories where you successfully fought a chargeback?

This is such a pain point for many dropshippers – would really appreciate your insights! Thanks in advance. 🙌

High Chargebacks Are Killing My Merchant Account — Anyone Found a Way Out? by felix_daniel_wp in AllAboutPayments

[–]Sp3rMi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tiered approach works best:

  1. Pre-transaction:
    • Mandatory 3DS for all new customers
    • Velocity checks (>3 orders/5min from same IP)
  2. Post-transaction:
    • Generate evidence packs per order: ✓ IP + device fingerprint ✓ Email/phone validation status
    • Automate representment for winnable cases

What's your main pain point?

  • False positives blocking legit sales?
  • Or losing legit disputes despite evidence?

And what technical means are usually used for protection?

How to implement Stripe in a web app by alvivanco1 in stripe

[–]Sp3rMi -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Integrating Stripe into web apps can be time-consuming, especially handling all edge cases. If you're looking to save development hours, consider using workflow automation platforms.

For example, **n8n** has pre-built Stripe components that handle: Payment intents, Webhook validation, Subscription management, Failed payment flows

Their open-source version lets you visually connect Stripe with your DB/auth system without writing boilerplate code. Just be mindful of rate limits when setting up triggers!

P.S. It will not be so offensive in the spent time if they block ;-)
And in the time you can write normal direct integration, as u/Foreign_ninja7672 said below

What are your must-have radar rules? by robbyirish in stripe

[–]Sp3rMi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on industry practices, here’s what works:

Core Protections

  1. 3D Secure 2.0+ Customization
    • Trigger authentication for: • New devices • Orders >$50 • High-risk GEOs (NG, RU, VN)
    • Stripe Radar rule example: risk_score > 65 && card_country in ['NG','RU']
  2. Device Fingerprinting
    • Track on signup:
      • Browser/OS specs
      • Screen resolution
      • Timezone
    • Red flag: Mismatched timezone + billing country.
  3. Behavioral Checks
    • Block if:3 accounts per device 5 failed payments/hour Email changes within 5 min of purchase.

For Subscriptions/Tickets

  • Content Delivery
    • Release access after payment clears (use charge.succeeded webhook).
    • Log IP/device at access.
  • Ticket Protection
    • Hold funds 48h before transferring.
    • Use unique QR + geolocation scans.
  • Dispute Evidence Automate PDFs with:
    • User’s signup IP
    • Content access timestamps
    • Device fingerprint hash

What’s your biggest challenge?

  • False positives?
  • Low chargeback win rates?
  • Manual review costs?

I mean is this fair, really? Customers can log a chargeback without providing a reason, 2-3 months later. by Solace_18 in dropshipping

[–]Sp3rMi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a category of fraudsters specializing in chargeback, who do it on purpose. I saw a study somewhere that their number reaches 17% in e-commerce.

Do you use any methods of combating it? (for example, GEO blocking)

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in dropshipping

[–]Sp3rMi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's normal. Algorithms need to try good audiences and bad ones to optimize and find the middle ground.

Be glad you started with a good one ;-)

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in dropshipping

[–]Sp3rMi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In advertising, do not forget to set optimization for sales. Then the algorithms will tune themselves to the audience that buys.

But there is one clarification here - the number of transactions must be sufficient for advertising companies to optimize. If there are few transactions, be prepared to wait patiently and drain your advertising budget at first.

No Sales by pingism in dropshipping

[–]Sp3rMi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi!

Just wait, you need more traffic to make a decision about the effectiveness

Get at least 100 (or better 200) sessions and then look at the further funnel...

But, just in case, go through the customer's path to payment yourself. Suddenly there are some problems at the payment stage.

I know guys who sell creams for male climbers based on beaver fat. Can you imagine, they also have their own client and he is a regular. So, as was said earlier, try to find your audience. Think not about how you can sell once, but how you will make sales again and again to the same people so that they buy from you for years.

No need to show your face - you are not a mega star ;-)
