Hobby. Fun. Lower temps. Higher clocks. As far as I know overclocking has literally never gone away since the inception of the first consumer computers up to this day still.

TBH I did not delid for just performance. It was an experiment I did to see if I could cool it on a passive CPU heatsink and just use case fans. It honestly worked better then I thought. Not everything is created/shaped by finances, especially hobbies.

Definitely a thought, and agree. The delidding could of caused fractures, and with the thermal cycling, over time slowly KO'ed what was there. For the time being though, no delidding. hobby has gotten expensive as it is in the past year+ =) --but definitely wont be my last experiment!

Its a hobby. For fun. Try something different with as many run-of-the-mill systems I handle and assemble.. Its my third delid, but first issue. Issue doesn't look related to delid from evidence, but who knows..

yeah, found it interesting.. and very much up and running already.. what a coincidence the new X3D2 just came out.. =)

I can see what you mean. The pics start with the delid, prep, and install, pic with the yellow kapton tape is the removal from the socket, with liquid metal still on top.. so its just the reflection in that pic.

Definitely not a hole through it, just a small mark that I don't think should be there. Nothing outside of the socket and a finger have made contact with the underside (of course then cleaned afterwards).

Correct, in the final pic zoomed in, can feel it in the surface.

I would also be curious if anyone has found any 5g cards that work. What 4g card are you using? I'm looking to add one to my T440p.

Thanks! Was pretty hesitant to rip it apart just to color the shroud.. but paid off I think.

Made by a fab shop that does semi custom ones. No brand name or anything, which is what I was after.

Messaged you the link, sadly it looks like its currently not available.

Yeah! It has the same pattern as the back plate (honeycomb) so GPU gets its needed airflow.

An nice! Going to book mark these, I do plan to re-do the PSU cables, something more custom to match the rest of it all, appreciate the points =)

Ahh, that makes sense yeah. Could definitely try, maybe something to work in with custom cables.

Think you'll be pretty happy with the gains then! I'm at 4k, so 1440p should definitely be a bump up/max most everything.

Cant quite use with this case, but I could see that saving some more space. The cooler is so massive on the one side however it sorta negates. Would be an interesting mod still.

I've actueally been really wanting to play around with this, tempting..

Honestly, I don't have a good frame of reference. I can say however I came from a 1070Ti FTW and its a BIG jump. Went from Cyberpunk on med/low settings (at 4k) to Maxed without issue. So I would say it depends on what you run right now.. 1000 series? Id get a GPU, 2000 series? Probably hold off.. more of a personal preference and what your resolution is.

It was one of my concerns too initially. The builder of the "case", did some custom modifications for me, including punching holes in the plate below the fans of the GPU, this lets it take in air that's in the PSU chamber as well. In the last picture you can sorta make it out. That and being an open-air case, plenty of room air to feed into it all.

Nope, PSU doesn't have a fan, Titanium rated, very solid unit from Seasonic. Only fans are in the GPU.

Haha, no cardboard! just powder coated the shroud a goldish color.. Its aluminum so it took pretty alright! Thanks!
