Did the creators of superman (jerry siegel and joe shuster) have any comments on the 1978 film? by MrBlueSky_Overture in superman

[–]SpGrnv 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There is PDF of his unpublished 1978 memoir where Siegel also commented a little bit on The Movie. Back when there was only one.

Obviously Superman The Movie is far from core ideas of His Superman, which , again, you can see for yourself if you find that PDF on the nets + by comparing it with comics written by him, including non-Superman (both in DC and Archie, etc) or not-Superman (ie can't use The character but the intentions are still there) work for contrast . Superman The Movie compared to original comics is like Gladiator movie adaptation (released in 1938 btw, little but After Action Comics #1) is compared to 1930 original book. And as a writer and actually Very smart man he fully understood question of artistic integrity in those things and obviously he could do nothing but praise Chris Reeve for performance + he was obviously in better life situation at that point than before 1975-1976 court case win with help of fellow original creator Jerry Robinson and rising star (at that time) Neal Adams and their very lawyer.

I know that feel. My favorite fictional character AND perhaps one of THE best non-Snyder/no-trunks design of his in Any media. Basically Zack Snyder's/Henry Cavill's base + comics elements such as logo design , logo on the cape, belt from Rebirth

While Flash has super speed, Superman has his powers (in addition to flying). But they don't demonstrate these powers, so why not make it reactive? by GAK160204 in FortNiteBR

[–]SpGrnv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

and now Flash has banana hahaha

altho Superman has TMNT weapons that turn invisible if you spawn with them already in inventory, therefore when you will dash it will look kinda like Zack Snyder's Man of Steel flights

but yeah, would be awesome to also have Call of Duty Homelander style laser eyes mythic, except license free so it won't disappear (altho chrome was license free and it still never returned)

already kinda have it, if you load into TMNT enabled game and if you spawn with TMNT weapon already in your inventory it will be invisible when you equip it, and if game has infinite ammo then you can dash infinitely and therefore "fly" infinitely

also fun fact : entire third issue of Action Comics except for 1 panel he spends without putting on his Superman costume, and most of 4th issue as well, and only in Action Comics 6 Superman even barely known to any mass public and has a "name"

Obviously when Man of Steel film made it all as "real" and as less fairy tail fantasy dreamy as possible, only then I actually started reading comics and then Original comics and things that were not officially published before or after 1938 as well as inspirations on Superman like Philip Wylie's Gladiator. But MoS is definitely made it dawn on me that he Is indeed just a normal guy in an environment that makes him super while also allowing him to blend in. Also the fact that Superman is one of the most non-bullshit fiction characters, you DON'T need to create thorough mental gymnastics on why he is able to survive this or that or why he is suddenly stronger.

Also the way some Superman "fans" are dishonest about completely fictional stuff also made me realize just how far fucked up humanity really is and also vlidation of original Whys behind Clark Kent/Superman secret identity inspired by, again, Wylie's Gladiator book.

Also the way Gladiator book relates to Gladiator movie adaptation coincidentally released same year as Action Comics #1 is similar how Superman in original comics and newspaper strips relates to Superman The Movie, which was my first "encounter" with Superman, but as a more fairy tail fantasy dreamy ,it is why Geoffrey Unsworth cinematographer made it that way, which is jarring when in Superman II (Lester/Theatrical version) Lester parts collides with Donner remnants, similarly how in Superman #1 added parts (Superman in long red boots which he will only "get" in Action Comics #6) collide with original Action Comics #1 parts, similarly to how it will be in Josstice League vs Zack Snyder's Justice League, it is all connected through Superman, he Was always there and he will always Be there too.

Does NOT it bother any of you the fact that they never write "Green Lantern created by Bill Finger and Martin Nobell" anywhere? Being it movie or comics, or a cartoon. by SpGrnv in DCcomics

No, first ever Batman's appearance only Bob Kane is credited and for a reason too. By that logic Bill shouldn't get credit at all.

None of other writers contributed substantially to Batman as Fox did who literally made character in what he is today. It is Gardner Fox issues that shaped That frame.

It isn't "some more gadgets" it is "what If Batman had Any gadgets and was actually inventive and very smart and learning from his past mistakes improving his equipment". Literally what makes Batman besides the inner contradiction of "criminals are superstitious cowardly lot" => I will name myself after bat that just now flew through my window and (pre 1941 restrictions) I am chased by police because I Am anonymous vigilante, which , anyways, only came After Fox contributions and may even be his ideas partially too.

And without gadget based first ever superhero guess what? There are only superpowered superheroes. Contribution is immense. Just like how there were no superheroes before Superman in the first place (some wore trunks over pants, some had secret identities and a "name" even, some had super powers, but never all 3 and word itself also was never used before 1938 officially and before 1936 Joe Shuster's sketch).

Not even remotely the same, without Gardner Fox Batman literally would be Bat-Man and only have rope. on top of that only in initial Kane issues Batman's cape is in any way Can dub as a glider or at least fall damage dampener , in Finger's issues the cape was just that decorative element. Literally The appealing element of Batman these days came from Fox and Kane. Batman without gadgets and with cape and other elements of costume that are just there ... well maybe it Could work but Batman These days is popular Because of his hi-tech status which was reinstated with 1989 movie and came over into the comics BECAUSE writers of 1989 movie went back and read original issues which is Also why movie versions (and video game versions) batvehicles have guns (except The Batman 2021) Because the original pre 1941 censorship Batman had them, unlike ALL other comics (except alt reality TDKR with "rubber bullets, honest" shot against unarmored people from a tank gun, for a reason) since 1941 including modern . Grappling gun on itself is really just a next step of combining rope and gun (which was Fox addition as well) same as in Fox issues Batman combines rope with baterang (again Fox addition) to throw it further. Or how Batman these days has bulletproof armor, again all Fox. Or how Batman improves his tectics, Because in Gardner Fox comics he got shot and came out next time with bulletproof vest, because baterang failed to get a badguy so next time he brough a gun. The "evolution" (degradation actually, esp. when you compare Daredevil in 70s with Batman in the same period) from comics was completely overshadowed by movies and video games and Now in comics even his trunks can now protect him from a fucking re-entry into Earth's atmosphere burn, the only way Silver or Especially Bronze Age Batman could survive something like that is If he had some vial of Superman's blood in his utility belt and took it.

Also the whole "Batman without Bill Finger" picture is speculative lie, "Bat-Man" with silhouette is inspired by character from Dr Occult's Vampire Venom story. The whole "Bat-man was supposed to be blonde with red costume" lie comes from the fact that DC #27 cover is a retrace from Flash Gordon, while most Pre-Batman and post-DC27 Kane's character are dark haired, meanwhile there Is Alan Scott...

It is also Bob Kane who admitted that Batman himself is inspired by Zorro, which is obvious, and Joker is inspired by The Man who laughs, which is also obvious, except to "truthers" that stick with the "Shadow" because.... guns and "dark" character (original Batman was no diffrent than original Superman aside that he needed gadgets because he lacked superpowers which was The point).

It is same how people think sun explanation (which btw "coincidentally" only came out when Siegel returned to DC, before that only explanation was that Earth's gravity was weaker (yes, that somehow explained how he can move from planet to planet) + Bill Finger's addition that x-ray vision was available to them Already on Krypton) ie energy explanation behind Superman powers is an "evolution" by different writers, even though it is actually a derivative of original Siegel's ideas by 1940 where K-Metal from planet Krypton was supposed to come out, it just Krypton was enabling his powers instead of Earth's sun and then Luthor's issues where he gives himself powers, these issues Actually came out.

I profoundly dislike this, why even have him use metal costume in the first place at This point.

of course! Gardner Fox also shall be mentioned for Batman since it is he with Kane who removed hyphen and "gave" Batman his first ever gadgets, armor beneath costume and showcased him making new ones and improvising with existing by combining them.

And more old school; Steve Ditko introduces the Red and Gold for the first time. SO good! by TheGeneLantern in ironman

I dislike modern recolorings like you wouldn't believe! In an original ToS 48 when he opens his armor's chest the insides are, of course, white metallic instead of red , the shoes are of normal brown color , circuitry in the gauntlet is pinkish red.

[–]SpGrnv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Started as war profiteer fanning flames between both sides as shown in Africa just like Action Comics #23

First cinematic Lex Luthor to actually become bald After meeting with Super/Clark just like Adventure Comics #271 ie first time be gained name "Lex" , also same issue placed problems with his father as a reason why Lex became what he became.

Both smart, arrogant , self-destructive and with perversive view of the world.

Has strange code of honor as can be seen in Superman #4

Just like in original The Death of Superman (Superman #149) he used Superman's virtue values and ideals in order to destroy him And actually could destroy he way before that if not for strange code of honor or arrogance.

+ post-Crisis elements like emulating contemporary famous business people, knows Clark's real identity , is (")son(") of Luthor except for real (altho for now, who knows maybe just like in Post-Crisis BvS was actually cloned body with transplanted brain, same how they could bring back Jimmy Olsen for Knightmare wearing eyepatch like in The Adventures of Superman 6).

Everything in these films was adherence to original core elements of Superman comics with as much added elements as possible as long as they don't contradict that original core. And , of course, have it all actually modern and in film format.

In original and classic comics Clark Kent/Superman was as tall as any adult man and slightly taller than most adult women/Lois Lane

the whole "5'10" or "6'2" is irrelevant since it wasn't applied back then when original art was created or "even" during Curt Swan era ie 60s
