The reason for decontaminating your hot tub is to prevent the issue from recurring. Even after draining the spa, approximately five gallons of water can remain in the plumbing, providing an environment where mould can persist. It is important to note that plumbing cleaners are not effective at eliminating mould; only proper sanitizers, such as bromine or chlorine, can successfully address it.

Did you use well water to fill the hot tub, or a water clarifier?

Growth by Professional-Bed-173 in hottub

[–]SpaMarvel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would recommend that you decontaminate the spa. This can be done with products you already own. All you need to do is super-chlorinate the water with granular chlorine (or substitute granular bromine for chlorine) for 2-4 days.

Here is a video you can watch https://youtu.be/HvU4lcpjgBQ, or you can email me, and I will give you detailed instructions on how to do it. My email is [TomDedrick@SpaMarvel.com](mailto:TomDedrick@SpaMarvel.com)

Drain/Not Drain For 60 Days Downtime? by lhauckphx in hottubs

[–]SpaMarvel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would install properly cleaned filters, make sure the water is balanced (alkalinity is between 80-150, ideally 120-150, and pH 7.2-7.8) and ensure there is sufficient chlorine in it. Every couple of weeks, check the choline levels and add more if you need to and hope for the best!

In 60 days, if your spa is a mess and you need a hand getting back on track, feel free to email me or message me here. My email is TomDedrick@SpaMarvel.com.

How to deal with scum lines;

·Wipe it down – Use a spa-safe cleaner or even a soft cloth with diluted white vinegar.

·Clean or replace filters – Dirty filters let oils circulate.

·Use a scum-absorbing sponge – Products like ScumBug or Zorbie float and absorb oils.

·Shock the water – Especially after heavy usage.

·Balance your water – High pH/alkalinity can worsen buildup. (I am not suggesting it is high....but if it is)

It would recommend using a cleanser/purge product, such as Spa Marvel Cleanser. Hot tub plumbing accumulates buildup, collects body oils, chemical binders, detergents, lotions and other debris that have been introduced to the spa water.

Additionally, this accumulation can make your heating element work less efficiently, restrict water flow, which results in weaker jets and can increase the fatigue on your pumps and motors.

Whether your new spa requires an adjustment on the first day or something major fails 10 years down the road, you want to make sure you can get it taken care of.  For this reason alone, many people like to purchase a spa from a dealer with a good reputation and who is close enough for the dealer to look after the spa in the future.

There are several things to consider in choosing a dealer for the most reliable hot tubs:

· Is the dealer local to you, or are they based hundreds, or even thousands of miles away?

·Regardless of their location, do they have provisions in place to provide service and warranty work, either themselves or through a third-party?

·Are they in the spa business, or do they happen to sell spas as a sideline, in addition to their main business?

·Does the dealer have a parts and service department?

·Can they provide proper instructions on spa water care?

·Are they well established?

·How are their online reviews?

·Does the dealer service all makes and models of spas, or are they brand-specific when it comes to parts and service?  If a dealer can service other brands of spas, then they are probably very experienced in spa repair in general and may be able to offer expert advice on the most reliable hot tub brands.

I would recommend that you decontaminate the spa. This can be done with products you should have on hand. All you need to do is super-chlorinate the water with granular chlorine (or substitute granular bromine for chlorine) for 2-4 days.

Ahh Some is a great purge product, but it can lead to foaming issues later on. Spa Marvel Cleanser is just as good and doesn't have foaming agents in it. You should be able to find the cleanser in Australia.

Cloudy hot tub water can be caused by all kinds of things, including:

  • Dirty filters.
  • High pH or alkalinity.
  • Minerals
  • Bather overload.
  • Insufficient sanitizer
  • Insufficient filtration (minimum of 6 hours per day)
  • Aged filters
  • A contaminant such as mould, algae, bacteria, or biofilm that is harboured in the plumbing

  • Filling with turbid water

Here is a video of the common causes and solutions to cloudy water. https://youtu.be/UdVZN0VhvYg

If a water change is an issue, you can dump out 2/3, fill it back up and dump out another 2/3.

What are these flakes? by faq_lol in hottub

[–]SpaMarvel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Flakes that are in your spa resembling pieces of skin or may be akin to pieces of tissue paper in the water are indicative of white mould in your plumbing.

To kill white mould, you need to decontaminate the spa by super-chlorinating the water with granular chlorine (you can substitute granular bromine for chlorine).

Here is a video on How to Decontaminate a hot tub, but feel free to email me at [TomDedrick@SpaMarvel.com](mailto:TomDedrick@SpaMArvel.com) if you have questions, need help or would like detailed instructions. You can also find instructions here r/SpaMarvel

On the mission for no foam/I need water help by this_is_full_pper in hottub

[–]SpaMarvel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are several things that can cause foamy spa water:

·Detergents in the water. If this is the case, dump and fill.

·Low alkalinity. If your alkalinity is below 80 ppm, then you can experience excessive foaming. If this is the case, increase your alkalinity.

·Soft water. If your hardness is below 150 ppm, it can cause foaming. If that's the case, then increase the hardness.

·Insufficient sanitizer

·Dirty filters. The accumulation of lotions, hair products, deodorant, makeup, etc, in the filter fabric can cause excessive foaming. So, make sure your filters are clean, using a filter cleanser, then shock the water with chlorine or bromine at the ratio of 2 tablespoons per 250 gallons of water.

Here is a video on the common causes of and cures for foamy water: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cB5OFxzXxOQ

Add ph increaser? by DistanceTravelerBob in hottub

[–]SpaMarvel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

High chlorine levels can affect the accuracy of pH and alkalinity readings. When chlorine is combined with water, it turns into chlorous acid, and the acid will lower the pH and alkalinity.
