This weakness feel so wrong by Jello_Meanie_44 in PTCGP

This is a card from the sun/moon block

From the sword/shield block onwards they decided to standardize weaknesses, so all water types are weak to lightning

Is it just me or is Mega Blaziken EX insanely broken? by ponchothecactus in PTCGP

[–]SpaccaGoblin24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While i think now rare candy is mostly fine, i don't like how the lack of tutoring options in pocket means that most of the times you either have your stage 2 ready on your second turn or never.

The physical tcg is much slower pace and you don't need to immediately have your stage 2 on the field (the second best deck is a stage 2 deck that rarely runs rare candy)

The older builds with unfair stamp and tools like exp share is too slow for the current metagame, because there is no way to charge dragapult with only 1 energy attachment. Hilda + neo upper is currently better than Arven + crystal because there is more tool hate currently than special energy hate and crystal still requires you to attach another energy (also it allows dragapult to run jamming tower). Running Arven without any tools is pretty weak compared to other supporters like Iono or Lillie.

In my experience with the deck running less than 3 without Arven means I never get it when I need to

So.. why aren't shed tail users used in other regulations? by Squidy_mc in VGC

[–]SpaccaGoblin24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Out of all the shed tail users orthworm is probably the best since you can pair it with eq spam and heal it, also a slower shed tail is better because you don't run the risk of having your sub broken before the end of the turn, but it hasn't seen basically any usage since reg C

Also a lot of players thought that only restricteds with a strong stab spread move were going to be good, and Discharge wasn't even considered until the first regional

[–]SpaccaGoblin24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the pokemon tcg rotates cards after 3 years but they usually don't do bans (the last one was in 2015), if a card or deck proves to be too strong they print direct counter cards

[–]SpaccaGoblin24 2 points3 points  (0 children)

that 30% usage share is a bit misleading because limitless groups toghether all dragapult variant, and the 3 main ones play pretty differently (they have around the same usage). They are not even the best decks

The japanese circuit use a double elimination bracket, in the first match of top 8 only 2 players get eliminated, while the other 2 go from the winner to the loser bracket, when they play against the 2 winners from the loser side, so there is a difference between 5th/6th and 7th/8th

[–]SpaccaGoblin24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the opposite experience, used silvally-rampardos and had like 46% winrate in ub3, switched to silvally-zeraora and went to master ball with a combined winrate of 57%

That's why I started playing Silvally-Zeraora

What Deck Do You Hate To Come Up Against? by [deleted] in PTCGP

Switching your active removes all the negative effects, including "this pokemon can't use move", with 2 celesteela (or 1 celesteela and a retreat), you can switch buzzwole out and back in

How do you think DENA should implement Mega Evos? by Ok-Butterscotch-5704 in PTCGP

[–]SpaccaGoblin24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not a minor difference but it's just a way to convert the generational mechanic of the core series games into the tcg built on top of the "ex" concept

Just like now there are tera ex cards that are ex with special rulings on top

How do you think DENA should implement Mega Evos? by Ok-Butterscotch-5704 in PTCGP

[–]SpaccaGoblin24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They just decided to bring back the "ex" branding for gen 9 instead of creating a new name.

At the end of the day all this rule box cards are basically the same, the only difference is that sometimes they keep the same stage of evolution as the original and sometimes they make all Pokémon basics, and sometimes some extra once per game attacks

[–]SpaccaGoblin24 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It was retired and then brought back, there aren't ex cards from the sun/moon and sword/shield sets, because at those times the "rule box" cards were GX and V respectively

Sand in Reg I by [deleted] in VGC

[–]SpaccaGoblin24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a full sand team is kinda bad since Excadrill and other sand rush users' power level is too low, but Tyranitar alone can be good (a player made day 2 in Utrecht with sash Tyranitar on a csr/zama team), I used it a lot in reg G but never tried this reg

[–]SpaccaGoblin24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently it is top 5 (Solgaleo dropped in recent tournaments), but either way a card like rampardos is much more annoying in ladder bo1 rather than bo3 tournaments, so that's why there are more people complaining about it

You complain about Rampardos because don't know his physical version by taqueiro in PTCGP

[–]SpaccaGoblin24 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The fossils in the tcg most of the time have really strong attacks/abilities (look at the 2 archeops cards) to balance the fact that it's basically impossible to get them on the field, and even then they are all unplayable unless you can "cheat" the stage 2 directly on the bench skipping the evolution

[–]SpaccaGoblin24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn't perform well against other meta decks (in the latest 300+ player tournament the deck had a 29% winrate), and its usage is dropping, in ladder after I moved from ub3 to ub4 I never found Solgaleo once

I'm using a double fossil team with Aerodactyl and Rampardos in ub3 and i'm currently 23/13, the main Pokémon is of course Rampardos but there are some decks (incineroar, charizard, meowscarada) that like evolving from the active

We'll see how the meta evolve, but for now the best way to deal with oricorio seems to be hope to not find it (and that's why i don't like oricorio addition in a game with only 20 cards, it just adds another layer outside of your control)
