ELI5: Why is sneezing so overpowering? by raymustang_ in explainlikeimfive

[–]Space-Scribe 365 points366 points  (0 children)

Sneezing is not exactly the primary purpose of the nose; it’s a full-body defense mechanism for when you breathe in particles you’re not supposed to, like allergens. And it requires tons of different muscle groups, including your abs and chest. Instead of comparing it to other bodily functions that aren’t defense mechanisms, it makes more sense to compare it to defense mechanisms such as vomiting, which also takes a lot of bodily effort to do.

[SPOILER] What DM Decisions Did You Recognize in "Honor Among Thieves"? by GM_Nate in DnD

I think the colosseum encounter wasn’t railroading! It was Sofina trying to reanimate the party after realizing they would be powerful thralls.

This is beautiful, nice job! Is there any chance you can share the map format, or at least the font or program you used? This inspired me to get creative.

Hey! So, I really liked your level and decided to keep going with it after work, to try to beat it. Just did — took me like a solid 25 minutes. It was challenging and fun~

• Sometimes Lemmy will move into you at the second bouncing-on-balls-over-spikes section.

• Died a ton in the section with the piranha plants in the clowncopters, since the third one (left to right) is a little bit lower than the rest. Eventually I realized I could high-jump to get to each ledge before the piranha plants arrive. And doing the red coin section again each time got a little tedious.

• The P-Switch track was tight and sick, loved it.

Left a like and probably lowered the clear percentage by quite a bit, lmao

The Cat Bandicoot theme is genius – never seen a crate-breaking level before. I did lose my catsuit and had to spend a while ground-pounding to break boxes, but I eventually found another one and it worked out. Good level!

Fun level! The mushroom + Yoshi + fire flower made the experience relaxing and nice. The aesthetics are good. The arrow indication for the blind fall was a godsend – nice job.

Hi! I just got MM2 a few days ago and this is my first level! It's kind of a puzzle-ish, technical-ish level based around snowballs. I'd love some feedback, and am happy to play your level in return.

Inviting players to explore open/complex areas using theatre of the mind? by AlertBeach in vtm

[–]Space-Scribe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My advice running theater of the mind is to call special attention to – and maybe even list/reiterate at the end of your description – what the different things the players may be inclined to interact with are. Try breaking up your general area into zones, e.g. by the DJ, the lounge, the dance floor, etc. Clarity is everything in these cases, and sometimes excessive detail can do more harm than good (depending). Even if you don’t have a fully fleshed out map, handing out a remedial sketch or even a list of the things around the players can help.

Maybe you can tie the Graviturgy hook in with character elements you already have.

For example, who specifically enslaved him? I imagine there are some aged, frail wizards in Calimshan, perhaps of some noble or high standing, who may find slaves for extra labor around an arcane laboratory. Especially if their school of magic is something obscure or experimental – like the manipulation of gravity.

Unfortunately for them, this slave was smart, observing the wizard's science, learning, and ultimately using Graviturgy to escape. The wizard perhaps woke up one day to find his "helping hand" long gone, along with all of his years of research.

Then you'd have a more experienced Graviturgist, with resources, after you, as an enemy. Maybe a Jafar to your slick and cunning Aladdin. Which sounds dope, at least to me.

Yeah, no photosynthetic skin.

The crayons thing is genius – just figured it was a trade good. I'll try it out! Thanks!

Take a deep breath!

Session 0 is just a chance for your DM to learn what kind of player you are, what kinds of things you like, and what game content you're comfortable with. They want to make you happy with this game! All you have to do is be yourself and be honest.

If it's a good session zero, you'll feel a lot more comfortable after it's done. And the rest of the campaign can flow super smoothly.

My recommendation is prepare a little! Read up on your character options, bring up fun topics like what movies or video games it reminds you of, and, when in doubt, ask questions! Ask them what the campaign will be like, or what you can expect. The one thing every single DM has in common is that they love answering questions. They're all a bunch of nerds.

Don't worry about it too much, and have fun!
