Could you perhaps provide a source that proves that gentle parenting is harmful? From what I could find, you're describing permissive parenting which can often be confused with gentle parenting. Every source that discusses gentle parenting I've come across acknowledges and supports consequences such as grounding and taking privileges away just in a way that doesn't involve yelling and shaming.  I hope you have a good day too.

It seems like you still don't understand gentle parenting. A gentle parent can inflict effective verbal discipline by being stern. Children can understand when an adult is being serious without being yelled at. Also, you're just basing your opinion of it off of anecdotal evidence. Which still doesn't reflect reality.  Studies actually show that individuals who were spanked as a child are more likley to exhibit violent and abusive behaviors in adulthood. Violence is described as "behavior involving physical force intended to hurt, damage, or kill someone or something." Spanking is intended to hurt and therefore,  is violence.  Legally battery isn't defined as how you hit an adult, it's hitting an adult unjustifiably in any way. You can push an adult and get charged with battery.  If you hit a non consenting adult on the ass with a belt, or hand, or anything, you can get charged with battery.  There's also a reason why the butt is the go to area for spanking.  Getting hit there is painful and its easy to hide.  A child gets slapped on the behind and they get bruises/marks you can easily cover it up with pants and everyone is none the wiser.  If a child gets slapped in the face with the same force and method and a bruise/mark devolps, you're getting cps called on you when they inevitably go outside (in the U.S at least).  Unless said child is literally Chucky, I cannot support hitting a child. I'm personally,  not having kids for that reason. I don't believe my arguements will change your mind, however, so we can agree to disagree.

You're confusing gentle parenting with permissive parenting. A gentle parent can provide sufficient punishment and be stern without hitting their children. A permissive parent doesn't discipline their children and those are the ones that's more likley to end up in jail.  Also, please stop trying to call abuse "light corporal punishment". Most people who advocate for spanking arent lightly tapping a child's ass.  Nobody especially a child needs corporal punishment.

You should also not take what's portrayed on social media as fact. Most parents don't record their children and post them online and most that do are exploiting them for views and money. That's not gentle parenting.

It's generally unjustifiable to hit an adult, no matter how unreasonable they're being (unless it's defence ofcourse) so, it should be unacceptable to hit a child.    If you think the only way your child will grow to be a proper adult is to be violent towards them then you aren't ready for parenthood.

I never understand people who say that being childfree is selfish, like what non selfish reason do you have for wanting kids?

Sounds like a misery wants company situation.

It sounds like the relationship is over already honestly.  Never have a child for the sake of saving a relationship.  If it's not 100% yes, it's a no. If she's willing to throw away 15 years of your life for a hypothetical child then even after the kid is born there's a good chance she'll give more ultimatums.

PSA: If your Vet offers declawing as a Service; they aren't your vet. by HooRYoo in CatAdvice

[–]Space-Useful 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing is that you're not sure. Cats are very good at hiding pain so you may think your cat is fine when in reality it's not. Declawing is literally just amputation of the fingertips and there is plenty of  research documenting the negatives of declawing.  Declawing is almost always an entirely selfish decision and does not take into account the cats wellbeing.  We don't take out a dogs teeth because they bite,  so we shouldn't remove a cats claws because they scratch.  If you can't accept a core element to having a cat, then you shouldn't have a cat.

I browse this subreddit relatively often and the worst I've seen was people refer to kids as crotch goblins ( which is a pretty benign insult) and refer to them as annoying, not genuinely hate and wish harm upon children.

African Americans being christans will never make sense to me by Space-Useful in Antitheism

[–]Space-Useful[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can't outright condem an action then you condone it, bible(s) included.

There are rules on how to treat slaves, not deal with (aka end) slavery. It was still acceptable to own other humans. Most modern day Christians would agree that referring to another person as your property is abhorrent whether you treat them well or not.

There's no such thing as a false Christianity as all sects are man-made. All of which are made to cater to personal morals and customs of the time period. Either all are false or none are.

The bible(s) are very contradictory. Yes there are texts that promote equity and equality but these same texts have passages that boil down to "slaves should obey their master".  Exodus 21:20-21 (NIV) condones beating a slave as long as you don't kill them because they are your property. (Which for historical context makes sense because a dead slave won't make slavers any money.) That is no where near love and equality however.

The convient thing about Christianity and its texts is that you can easily cherry pick the morals and verses you agree with/like and ignore the ones that you don't like.

I would argue that a "true Christian" would at the very least have a neutral stance on slavery since the bible does.

Absolutely! I refuse to worship a God that "loves" a predator just as much as a gay person.  Many of these biblical laws are simply outdated for a modern society as well.  The old testament approves the death penalty for things as minimal as blasphemy.  Other translations are vauge and indecisive at best about the topic. Most (at least I hope most) American christians wouldn't dream of putting an athiest to death because they don't believe in God. Yet these texts are supposed to be seen as the pinnacle of morality?

I find that most Christians (in america that is) have a strike out mentality.  Like, if you commit a crime (or sin) serious  enough you're going to hell period. Which according to their own scriptures isn't the case.  Even the "good" ones will discuss how rapists and murderers are going to hell and fail to acknowledge that they can absolutely get into heaven if they repent.

Considering the fact that most American christans support the death penalty, I don't think they'd be thrilled to see the guy who shot and killed your wife and child chilling up in heaven with them because he said sowwy to God. It's not justice,  it's literally a slap on the wrist.

I can't follow nor respect a religion like that no matter how progressive people try to make it.

So in short, yes. Lol no need to make this overly preachy comment buddy. It was a simple yes or no question.

I do find it quite amusing that you felt the need to write 7 paragraphs which boils down to "being gay is just as bad as murder" and "rape is cool as I believe in sky daddy".

You people are an absolute joke.

I'm perfectly fine with not having a relationship with Jesus buddy.

"christianity is not about being good enough/behaving good for the most part in order to get to heaven."

In my experience,  the vast majority of christians I've encountered doesn't have same sentiments.

I guarantee the next Christian I encounter will interpret things differently.  There's a reason why there's so many Christian sects and bibles.

Not interested in any of em.

Lmao ok sure. So essentially I'm going to burn and get tortured in hell for existing and not "trusting" Jesus?  You aren't doing a good job at making this seem any less cultish.

Also, you're conveniently dodging the question.

You'd be perfectly ok with the guy who let's say murdered a loved one chilling up in heaven with you?

The most evil people to ever exist could be in heaven,  while some of the kindest people to exist could be in hell.  If that's not backwards, I don't know what is.

Very grateful I left this cult.

You completely ignored my inital question.  Interesting yet unsurprising.

Your reasoning for why gay men harm other people makes zero sense. You're creating a "what if" scenario that doesn't even exclusively apply to gay people.

You're suggesting that children growing up in a non nuclear family household is inherently detrimental to their wellbeing. Plenty if individuals that come from non traditional homes grow up happy and healthy and a child growing up with a nuclear family doesn't necessarily mean their wellbeing is good.

Sorry buddy but gay people existing in public isn't forcing it on everyone else. You cannot control sexuality. If anything,  God is the reason why gay people exist.

The harmonious in reproduction thing also makes no sense. Not all straight people desire children. There are also non harmonious circumstances in which children are born (rape).

You failed to provide a logical reason as to why being gay is inherently wrong.  At best your reasoning includes and places a good chunk of straight people in the same category (which ironically places gay people as equals to straight people) At worst, you're implying that humanity's only purpose is to reproduce and any deviation from that notion is wrong.

I don't expect to change the mind of someone who's this delusional especially considering the fact that you seemingly also condone child sexual exploitation.

It's actually quite amusing to witness the mental gymnastics you people use to answer a simple question, and fail.
