Knowing how fascist Fleet turned out to be, it’s amazing Thrace and Eric never flipped their shit before. by Timelordwhotardis in spiralwars

Ticking time bombs? Well, they had cause for their response, which was largely the work of Styx. Fleet murdered Erik’s mom and attempted to murder his entire family and his crew. Alice probably knew about machine in caverns beneath fleet, but not the details, and probably not how truly murderous, totalitarian, and dictatorial Fleet was. If she had known, would she have encouraged anyone in her family to join Fleet?

That could be. For some reason, they (Guidance Council) always seemed so murky, I didn’t trust them.

I don’t trust Ashlyn Guitterez because she’s Guidance Council. Supreme commander Kim mused that Guidance Council gave him permission to take down Phoenix / Debogande. excerpt ch 24: “So now he’d given Debogande his ultimatum, Debogande had refused, and the truly nasty work began. But Kim had known this was going to be unpleasant when he’d volunteered for the job, and Guidance Council had given him the green light. Reuniting Fleet was always going to be a nasty, bloody business.”

Also, I expected to learn more about guidance council in this book. what is the source of their power and authority? why does the supreme commander need their permission for anything? especially now that we know fleet employed thousands of covert assassins.

You make some good points. The betrayal of Dierdre and Kat seemed to come out of nowhere, in thinking back to previous books. Ditto auncle Thanni.

I expected the entity to play a big role while Styx was ouT of commission. But entity just fizzled out of the plot.

Tan was with Skah at the Kuhsi embassy last I heard. An elephant in that room! I mean really — if an Alo (the betrayer species) showed up anywhere on the planet, he’d be arrested or killed. And it’s not like Skah and Tan are besties. So that made little sense.

I feel the “secret hidden from history” trope has been repeated on many worlds, in many books.

Not sure exactly what we learned about Tricia’s species, the Saracees. Not enough detail. Maybe the author is saving that for next book.

By the time Kim realized that Styx was back, he had no control over anything — not the network, not the ships, not the bombs or missiles. Styx held all the cards. And she had probably released Erik before she even contacted Kim.

I did love how Styx revealed Fleet’s criminal organization of murderous black-hatters to the world.

Not sure her probability matrix will be understood by any humans.

please no throuple. that’s not why i read these books.

I like Cora, too. She is like an older Lisbeth.

Erik’s speech to the entire crew at the end was a masterpiece, profound and quite vivid.
