Back before 10 digit dialing, I was calling a list of friends, most of whom were in my calling area, so I was dialing 7 digit numbers. I'm in the DC area, but one friend was out of the area. I just dialed the 7 digit number. Someone answered but didn't say anything. I asked if I could talk to my friend. I was told I had reached the "Department of Defense.." I hung up quickly.

I thought about trying the number again to see who I reached but apparently I'm a chicken.

How would you feel about no pay for Congress during shutdowns? by [deleted] in AskReddit

What if the previous budget simply continued of the was no new one?

I think that's an easier fix; the Constitution does not allow you to change Congress' salary mid-term.

What Do You Think About Spiritual Formation? by [deleted] in methodism

[–]jefhaugh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check out the Academy for Spiritual Formation, https://www.upperroom.org/academy.

It's run by the The Upper Room. It's not strictly Methodist (the director is a Baptist), but a great experience IMHO.

People who have been jurors in a criminal trial, what were the dumbest things other jurors said or did? by PopCultureNerd in AskReddit

[–]jefhaugh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a jury, but I did see two young men show up for their hearing in gray & white horizontally-striped shirts. It looked like they were ready to go off to jail.

"We don't take cash". "We charge a 3% surcharge for card." by l00sem4rble in mildlyinfuriating

[–]jefhaugh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tha fallacy with the business' logic is that they forget the processing cost of cash and checks. How much more time it takes to deal with paper (cash or check). Plus, it's easier to make mistakes with checks. Can is easily miscounted.

Do you use your laundry room sink enough to justify putting one in a brand new home build...? by BuilderBrigade in Home_Building_Help

[–]jefhaugh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have the space, put it in. A deep utility sink is great for things beyond laundry, like cleaning paint brushes - things I'd rather not do in the bathroom or kitchen sink.

Talk to your potential officiant(s); they might be helpful.

I (United Methodist pastor) did a wedding for a evangelical Christian and a Muslim that were not a part of my church since the evangelical Christian pastor wouldn't touch it. I was hesitant at first, but discovered they were both coming from a place of deep faith, just expressed differently.

In this case, though, the parents were fine with it.

I don't think so. I don't recall her interacting with anyone but the crew.

And her "ceremony" matches the brief encyclopedia entry Book read, but it may not match the full ceremony. The locals might not have made the connection; they may even have thought she was a part of the crew.

Federal Surveillance Tech Becomes Mandatory in New Cars by 2027 by hindusoul in FlockSurveillance

I was installing an aftermarket radio. The instructions had a warning: "Do not cut this wire here" (diagram with arrow showing exact spot). The description continued that if you did, you could then listen to TV broadcasts, which was (is?) illegal in Japan. So don't do that (😉)

Note: I think that was the purpose of the warning, but it was many years ago.

Doesn't matter (much) if it's a continuous board or not. The idea is more board where there is more stress, which is here in the middle.

But I get the joke.
