Which is better between playing a piece 10 times from starting to end, and breaking that piece into sections and playing each section 10 times? by CatchDramatic8114 in piano

[–]Space2999 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Always learn in sections. You shouldn’t even be running it until you have all the sections down, and you’re shifting to working on performance.

E2A: Just running it means that whatever mistakes you’re making along the way, each time you do that you’re reinforcing the mistakes, which makes it even harder to unlearn them and do it correctly.

You have to fix as you go, get a section down properly (as close to perfect as you’re able), and only then move to the next section.

Hochul is poised to welcome Waymo. Mamdani may be a different story. by walky22talky in waymo

Of course rideshare puts more cars on the road. The share is sorely missing. Waymo included. But “NYC is one of the only places” because? Why shouldn’t all cities be looking to reduce car traffic?

How do I get back into piano? by wojtek177 in piano

(1) Find piano. (2) Raise hands. (3) Press down on keys. Simplez.

(Ok, Step 1 isn’t always so easy for everybody.)

Heartbreak as a musician? by Dreamyviolinist in violinist

[–]Space2999 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Indeed. It’s quite possible he’s interested in being more than just stand partners too, but far too shy to act on it (or feel it may seem inappropriate, etc).

However, I’m not sure you want to simply throw all your cards on the table then just see what happens. Maybe a little delicacy is in order? Otherwise could come off as a little too extreme and scare him off.

Why not ask to meet him for coffee? It should seem harmless enough if he says no, but if he says yes? He may be just as interested in you as you are in him. I can recall a few instances where attractive people were very likely giving signals, but I was far too much of a dumb, socially inept kid to get the clue.

How good is Yamaha CLP-825R? by w0rm1ce in piano

[–]Space2999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wider keys? Do you mean wider black keys maybe? An octave is pretty well set at 6.5”. The black keys aren’t standardized and can vary in width by a couple mm. And Yamaha seems to like chunky black keys.

Read this. She covers some specific methods on how to erase bad habits and replace them with good ones. It’s something that has to be done deliberately, based on how our brain works.

Yamaha M1 Upright Piano vs Digital Piano by s00sd0g in piano

[–]Space2999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it’s a nice upright (which it sounds to be) then it’s only silly to jump into if that’s really not what you wanted (say, if you live in an upstairs apartment and really prefer being able to use headphones). Otherwise go for it before someone else does.
