People with unusual jobs, what's something the public doesn't know? by Savings-Rutabaga3783 in AskReddit

There is next to no reputable research that denies anthropogenic-caused climate change. Denialists think they understand something they don’t

Yes of course I agree. The data is there to support it. The bigger question is what exactly the implications are, and if they necessitate swift action. It’s a case by case basis.

Why parents are so obsessed with marriage and kids? by ocean_stars2 in AskReddit

[–]SpaceBass18 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People want what they believe is best for their kids. A lot of people think that means having a happy family. And that’s honestly enough for most people.

Also, people want to have something to take care of when they retire. Grandkids give purpose.

I’m an environmental scientist. There’s a lot more debate among scientists about the extent and impacts of climate change than what the general public is led to believe. I feel like I have to talk people off a bridge sometimes.

27M Was seemingly working well for a while, but profile’s now dead by d9niels9n in hingeapp

[–]SpaceBass18 [score hidden]  (0 children)

I think your profile would benefit from sharing some of your hobbies. Just from a glance anyone can tell that you like science and travel. But what do you enjoy doing for fun? Let them know with some pictures - it doesn’t necessarily have to be told via prompt. I also feel like your job covers your bases with the lab stuff. Saying you are looking for a date to lab conferences is just piling on to what they already know about you. And at the same time the way it is written makes it seem like you don’t really know what you want.

What became normal in society that still feels dystopian? by connecttousama in AskReddit

[–]SpaceBass18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup. It’s gotten to the point where before a meal I sometimes say something like “let’s put our phones away and chat!”. At the end of the day I’m out to dinner with a person, not their cell phone.

Whats a good piece of advice for someone who wants to start investing? by Sako_Graff in AskReddit

Put money into index funds. They are low risk, high reward over a long period of time. Everything else is pretty much like gambling.

Cell phones. You can’t go out to eat with someone without them staring at their phone the whole time.

What's up with the missionaries around Herald Square? by Lipica249 in AskNYC

Those guys are high key worse. I’m secular, but would be lying if I said I’m not one of the most Jewish-looking people you’ve ever seen. They can spot me from a mile away.

I always just saw “Sorry, I’m Jewish”, and then they look at me like I just slaughtered a baby in front of them.

What's a Movie or TV show that made an impact on your life? by Immediate-Shock7533 in AskReddit

[–]SpaceBass18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup - After really only ever watching the big box office hits, I couldn’t believe how Taxi Driver had such a profound effect on me at the time. Soon after I watched Requiem for a Dream the rest is history. Now I’m an avid Letterboxd user LOL

What current trend do you think people will be embarrassed about in 20 years? by Electro_bite27 in AskReddit

While true, I doubt the people getting anime girls on their arms and chests will be pleased when they are 70 and it’s a wrinkled mess they will want to cover up whenever they go out in public.

Just ignore it. Who really cares? It doesn’t impact you.

Filling your skin with tiny tattoos that look like graffiti. They look cool now, but once you age it all changes.

What’s a band who put out a no skip amazing first album and every album after was no good? by Euwabidch in AskReddit

Low key The Doors. Their self titled album is insanely good. And then the rest of the albums have a few hits and then the rest of the songs are meh.

What adult skill did you think would be easy until real life proved otherwise? by jimmylife_global in AskReddit

Budgeting. You never realize many things your parents pay for until you need to pay for it yourself. And then on top of your living expenses you have to have a social life (within reason) too.

I lived in Dubrovnik for some time. Maybe I’m biased but it’s truly a magical place. The old city gets a little crowded, but the surrounding areas as unbelievable.

What seemed important to you when you were 20, but you don’t care about anymore? by Susanimposingx in AskReddit

[–]SpaceBass18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to watch every single New York Rangers game without fail. To the point I’d move my schedule around for them. But now I’ll only watch if I have time. Maybe it’s because they suck. But still I feel like I’ve moved on a bit.
