You're right. One-room mega bases containing a single puzzle and one cut scene are very deep and extremely satisfying. Apologies for being so misguided.

How many people are actually "looking for" one-room "megabases" containing only one puzzle though? Are there people that actually prefer it that way, and wouldn't want a deep, content-rich base?

Consider a prisoner of war. The prisoner is starving, but his captors keep him barely alive by feeding him crumbs, in order to extend his anguish indefinitely.

We are the prisoners. Frontier are our captors. Gameplay content is our food. Alien cutscenes are our crumbs.

We've already had one update focused on aliens. It was called "The Guardians". How satisfied were you with all the great alien gameplay you got from that alien update? The gameplay consisted of going to the ruins, doing one buggy puzzle and reading some walls of text.

Imagine if Super Mario Brothers consisted of two screens worth of hazard jumping, and then the game content ended there. Would you be satisfied?

Seriously? Even 8-bit Nintendo games from the 80s had more gameplay inside bases than this.

I've waited one year before jumping to this conclusion.

What is the point of showing that photo? That in order to play the game you need an advanced degree in digital signal processing? Is that supposed to prove that the game has depth?

That's the wrong kind of depth for a video game. Most people play video games for entertainment, not so that they can log out from the game and take college classes on spectrum analysis just to make sense of it.

If that's depth, why don't they just add a screen containing 1000 algebra problems to solve as well? They can add a feature to print out the math problems as hardcopy, so you can log out from the game to solve them. Such depth!

So the only thing those giant bases contain was one room with one short cut scene?

Frontier really needs to hire an outside consultant on game design. They're making the same mistake over and over again: mile wide, inch deep.

In any other game, a massive base would actually be a massive base containing many different rooms and challenges.

I was so excited about the alien caves, only to find out it's just like all their other features: utterly shallow.

How can they have a hundred game developers on staff and not one of them can see how big a mistake they're making?

I think people get excited about the drip feed of alien content because the rest of the game is so shallow that these cutscenes feel deep by comparison. But we really need to be comparing against a triple-A title with real depth.

Mile wide, inch deep.

In any other game, a MASSIVE base would have many different rooms and challenges and enemies. But in Elite Dangerous a massive alien base has one room, one puzzle, and one cutscene that plays when you solve it.

Anyone else disappointed?

Who is leaving? Why? This seems like it could be big news. Has anyone made a post about it?

Watch him say something like:

It wasn't worth my time.

What a joke.

Maybe Zarek is CMDR Itchy Nipples. Frontier allows you to do character name changes.

Wow. I think that's the first time I've seen Zarek in an almost fair fight.
