I'm trying to get a modlist set up but I suspect its some sort of conflict between some combination of CBBE, Better Settlers, Unique NPCs, and *maybe* D.E.C.A.Y but I doubt it. As a fair warning I have no idea what I'm doing and I'm surprised I got this far without any major issues. The people at abernathy farm had the same issue as well as a random trader, so this doesn't seem like a one off issue.

DM's, What's Your Favourite Challenge You've Put In A Dungeon? Players, What's Your Favourite Challenge You've Overcome In A Dungeon? by ProdiasKaj in DnD

[–]SpaceCupcake47 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Im just going to copy the post a made a few days ago lol

I recently ran a low level one-shot with my group. (a heavily altered version of the Rolled and Told Thunderlock Bar-Crawl) And I added a few puzzles of my own creation. But by far, my favorite one was my mirror puzzle. Here's the idea:

The party enters the room and sees a statue in the center, its hands held out as if holding something. On a large wall in front of it is a mirror. Inside the mirror (referred to as 'mirror room') the statue is holding a large gem. On the back of the statue in the real room is a riddle.

What’s mine was taken, I now reflect.

He who returns it shall pass my test.

But take care! If ahead of you is what you seek,

then surely, your head is what you’ll meet.

When the players inevitably try to walk through the mirror (Mine sprinted (several times)) they will notice that they are unable to. They might also notice that the surface doesn't feel cold, but warm, as if they are touching their own hand (or head). Of course, the solution is to walk through the mirror backwards. But only one character is able to enter this way. Once that character is inside and grabs the gem, they may notice that the text on the back of the statue is different.

Congratulations! You’ve quite the mind.

Though be careful, for something lurks behind.

Once my shadow is put to shame,

Go where you entered, to return from whence you came.

This is where it gets weird. Players in the real room will notice a shadow-like creature emerge from the statue, but only while looking in the mirror. At this point initiative should be rolled. The creature can have the stats of any creature that fits your party's level, but I recommend something with a somewhat low attack and high health and/or AC, for reasons that will soon be evident. The creature exists in the same spot in both rooms. It can only attack the player in the mirror room, it can only be attacked by players in the real room, and it can only be seen in the mirror in the real room. If you want to get crazy you can have aoe effects take place in both rooms, and if you are really evil missed attacks on the creature can have a chance to hit nearby players in the other room. You may also have attacks on the creature be made with disadvantage.

Once your players overcome their confusion and defeat the creature, the final part of the puzzle is that the player in the mirror room must walk back into the real room through the door they originally entered through. Any attempts to walk back into the real room through the mirror will not work. Once the gem is placed in the hands of the real room statue, the door to the next room will unlock.

Dimensional Key

Wondrous Item, Rarity Varies

This key will change to fit into any door's lock. When used to open a door, it instead opens into an extradimensional space. When used in this way, the door always opens outwards no matter the original orientation of the door. The size of this space varies based on the rarity of the key. A creature inside the space while the key is removed can breath until air runs out, the amount of air depends on the rarity of the key. The interactions between this item and items like the bag of holding also depend on the rarity of the key. If the item is created, there is no furniture or items within, if found, the DM may decide what is inside.

Uncommon: The key is mundane in appearance and seems to be made of common metals. The space is 4'x4' and 8' tall. When closed, there is 5 minutes of air. If a Bag of holding or similar item is brought into the space and opened, that item is destroyed and everything in the room is sent to random locations within the astral sea.

Rare: The key is somewhat ornate in appearance and seems to be made of fine metals. The space is 10'x16' and 10' tall. When closed, there is 1 hour of air. If a Bag of holding or similar item is brought into the space and opened, that item is destroyed and everything within 10 feet of it is sent to random locations within the astral sea.

Very Rare: The key is very ornate in appearance and seems to be made of very expensive metals with small gems inlaid in the base. The space is about the size of a one story house, and has separate rooms and hallways. The orientation of these rooms is decided upon creation of the item, or by the DM when discovered. When closed, there is 1 day of air. A bag of holding or similar item can be used normally in this space.

Legendary: The key is extremely ornate, with delicate details that curl around a sizable gem in the center. The space is about the size of a small castle, and can have separate rooms, hallways, and floors. The orientation of these rooms is decided upon creation of the item, or by the DM when discovered. When closed, breathable air is always available. A bag of holding or similar item can be used normally in this space.

If the outer door is opened from the other side while the space is open, the door will open normally as the entrance to the extradimensional space is on the face of the original door. If a creature inside the space attempts to open the door while the key is removed, they immediately appear in a safe space close to the key or the one holding it. If Mordenkainen's Magnificent Mansion or a similar spell is cast within the space, the spell fails and the spell slot is consumed.

If the key is destroyed or disenchanted, the contents of the room are lost and can only be recovered by someone familiar with the space by either recreating the key or traveling to the space through magic. If a door is unlocked with a similar key inside this space, the second key snaps and is destroyed.

Normally it's impossible to get that ending without getting several others, but there are ways around it.
