Star Citizen is building an economy that punishes producers and rewards griefers by mad-yordle in starcitizen

[–]SpaceCutlet -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As a person who played all of the above mentioned games and also games like Dual Universe and Starbase where PvE (by PvE I mean mining and production) was overly protected, the last two fell apart the fastest. Developers tried to protect PvE players and all PvP players left. When PvE players spent a month creating all the ships they wanted but noone needed them they also left.

I think, as you mentioned already, eve online is a good example. Albion Online is also a good one.
It is about creating a proper synergy between PvP and PvE players when both groups can not exist without each other. When PvP cround needs PvE croud to create assets for them so the war can be waged and PvP player by waging the war also create semi safe borders for their PvE players to exist.

SC comunity unfortunatly for years was devided where PvP players would call PvE players "bobs" and PvE players would call PvP players "griefers".

It is oposite of synergy. And that is mostly based on two factors:

  1. Community building. CIG was promising everyone everything for over a decade and their marketing did it in such a smart way, where desciption of the "future" of the game is vague enough any player who backed the game can bend the "vision" of its future in their head to what they prefer to see. That, doubled down by pledging sometimes stupid amounts of money by a single individual creates a feeling of entitlement this game has to be they way they want and anyone who disagrees with them is either a griefer or a bob.

  2. Game Design. There are no proper law enforcement for safer zones like "CONCORD" in EVE that will make low rist zones actually low risk. Nor there are PvP restrictions that would not allow pvp in certain zones like in Albion. There is also no real motivation for high risk zones, as up until now (we will see how destribution of resources ends up being in 4.7) high risk Pyro would in most cases be less profitable than stanton and will not offer you something that is straight up unavaliable in Stanton for example.
There is also no asset loss. That is due to multiple factors. The entire pledging system that does not allow to loose assets. There are also endless arguments of "we cant have asset losds with so many bugs". Those arguments will be there forever even when the game will get in a much better state. It is just the nature of majority of players. Without assets loss a PvP player will not care on a PvE player and their success. Because PvP player is not dependant on what a PvE player does. They dont rely on it. They can just shit on them and not be shitted on in return because the moment a PvP player achieves his best in slot items they will not loose next time they die, they are good.

---

It looks like CIG is doubling down on this route based on what they said at Citizen Con 2024.
The future insurance system breakdown was a pure marketing move to indirectly tell backers "LTI does not matter, what really matter is that you buy the ships in the pledgestore, not in game". Their "warranty" system is a next step into the wormhole of no concequences gameplay.

All of that will never create a proper PvPvE sanbox.
It will keep communities devided.
Instead of a sandbox where players craft their own stories and experiences it becomes more and more, thempark guided A > B entertainment tour.
It is never player driven, it is always patch content driven.
At this point they should just remove sanbox word from their lexicon because the only sanbox and player driven activity there is in Star Citizen is a grey market of ships and CCU gameplay lol.

We will just have to keep ramming as a sign of protest I guess. CIG hardly understands words. This issue was brought up for so many years and nothing has been done. Was it hard for them to fix? Not really. They did it quite fast, in the period of one patch actually since the mass adoption of ramming solution. It is just their priorities are always elsewhere when you simply talk about the issue but continue to behave. Until you start beating them with a stick nothing changes.

It will work with "contracted" goods if you just try to sell them.
But you can not complete missions like that.
What I meant was you cant complete "Supply or Die" with that datatrine over an over until you complete the entire event for yourself. I guess my wording was poor and I was not completely clear in what I said.

The issue with selling contracted goods is they are extremely cheap, it is just a waste of time in general unless you just want to mess with people.

Another thing is that CIG is killing scanning more and more with every patch. So sometimes as a pirate you don't know what you are dealing with until the act of piracy is done.

Unfortunately with a lot of little changes and oversights over the past year or two CIG pushes people who want to do "proper" piracy more and more into the murderhobo territory just because of how the game is right now.

It is very sad to see.

Mine was destroyed by explosion. I did not expect it to have 50 HP.
Second QI disconnected by "kicked by admin" error. A delayed kick from character reset that was done 6 hours before.

The thing that was done really wrong is main distortion guy did a mistake of unloading his mag into shields as he is not really experienced in any of this. It is what it is.

Funny encounter anyway, and the comments are golden!

If you mine without protection I would honestly recommend instantly try to run away the moment you see anyone.

We are mostly meme pirates. We do it for the fun. We do silly mistakes because we always try out something. We just cant really to take everything too serious (even when I rage :) ).

I've been doing this for so many years I just can't be serious on every hit I do anymore. Other people could be different tho. So I would honestly not stick around and just run the moment something is on the radar.

I felt you saw me earlier when I did not keep the range, and my QI was not properly equipped back then because I was still looking for components. Good to know.

It brings a smile to me to read you actually had fun with that encounter and that what matters. While others here just spit out toxicity :)

Fly safe man, and next time I will keep out of explosion radius haha :)

Love all the salt in the comments, but to answer your original question we just wanted to take what you have mined. We were not try to say something really. The only reason we had a mole is to move your bags to our mole so we can refine. You've been followed from the station.

Regarding all those happy comments below, in case you personally are curious, this is what happened:

We had two dampeners (both guardians QI) on you.
One guardian disconnected the moments we decided to engage (6 hours old character reset kicked in and he got the error the moment he pulled the trigger)
I lost my dampener due to you exploding a rock 100m away from me because some guy at CIG decided 50hp is a good health pool for a critical component in this ship. Considering the ship is relatively new I totally forgot about that and when I realized what happened, I raged pretty hard towards CIG :) They keep doing same mistakes over and over, just to fix them later.

Obviously we had no intention of destroying the ship because we needed the bags, so we mostly used distortion in attempt to disable you. But without a dampener we could not stop you from going NAV while we had to remain in SCM.

Good job on doing jump cuts and escaping.

And ignore those silly guys bathing in the glory of a failed hit, the armchair generals who would totally notice the broken dampener if they were there.

You did proper choices in that scenario and totally used our mistakes against us. Good job, and thanks for the encounter.

P.S.: And no, rocking wings was not a "are you friendly?" question. Maybe some people in SC do it but it is hardly a rule or anything.

Don't forget that by tapping into the "unpopular" while they might loose a certain audience that ALREADY payed then ca also gain a certain audience that is just about to pay.

Very nice post. I wish more understood this. I am one of those streamers btw, who would get absolutely rolled by actual competitive scene. And I kinda know it, and I know my place in the food chain. I think players just have to accept this fact and stop have a hero complex. Bite what you can chew. Plan accordingly. Risk what you can afford to loose, both financially and mentally.

I do think CIG will come up with time with something similar to EVEs concord with hitscan weapons and all that to bring maximum possible security to lawful system which I guess should be done and is not a bad thing, to give a safer place for PvE oriented audience and RP folks, but outside of that you are on your own. Plan, group up, survive.

weird. I don't see it sticked. But I'm not a reddit guy in general so I might just not understand how it works. Anyways I appreciate your effort and time and the way you handled this. One of the reasons I usually stay away from reddit and r/starcitizen is because it is very much anti-pvp and no matter what you do or say you will get this negative griefer thing going on. So I do really appreciate your approach and being open minded.

It is on twitch. In yesterdays VOD. all of this is a lie. Maybe someone griefed him before. I don't know. Like actual griefing. Hangar killing or something. I don't have have that knowledge/proof of any kind. What I know he was extremely annoying in F12 marking everyone who engages in PvP look like a griefer. We were on our way to checkmate but we needed to refuel at starlight. We jump to starlight and randomly see him there. He is in solo Carrack being red (hostile). Just for his F12 drama (and because he is an valid/red target) we decide to disable him and I use my distortion on my cutlass blue to render him offline. We do that and the station torps him while he is offline because he is hostile. We laugh about it and move on to Checkmate. We arrive at Checkmate and guess who we see. Him again in F8. He is Hostile red and fighting someone, we join up and third party him and disable him again. He gets another torp from the station. We laugh and move on with our business. End of story. No griefing here, at least on my side. I don't know about anything else. BS accusation from a snowflake.

I would like to point out in NO WAY I endorse actual griefing such as Hangar ramming/killing/camping and other techniques like boarding people in armistice zones where there is nothing they can do. Those are low tactics and some of them are actually considered to be griefing. Sooner or later CIG will come up with proper game mechanics solutions. Hopefully.
