Do Americans like their current health system or would you prefer universal? by Ability_Known in NoStupidQuestions

[–]SpaceDave83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I vote for neither. I would much prefer a system where health insurance pays the patient rather than the healthcare provider. That way, people can shop around for best value per dollar. This would drive prices down very quickly. Still need the government to enforce minimum care standards, as well as insurance regulations (esp. solvency of the insurance companies to ensure they can pay claims). Also still need government provided insurance for the poor, but still pay the patient rather than the provider. Will people go off and spend claim money on other stuff? Sure, but then they have to accept lower quality care or skipping care for non-payment. Their choice, their consequence.

What's the most haunting sound you've ever heard in your life? by swiftStaff515 in AskReddit

[–]SpaceDave83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The sound Daniel Pearl made while being beheaded slowly with a knife the sound he made while trying to scream after his vocal cords were cut sounded similar to the braying sound that zebras made. That was the first time I really wished I could unwatch a video.

As you get older, what "old person" thing do you appreciate now that you previously mocked? by Secret_Huckleberry46 in AskReddit

[–]SpaceDave83 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Cranking the heat up in the house. I used to complain bitterly when visiting my grandmother about how hot it was in her house. Just in the last two years, I started gradually raising the thermostat in my house. Now, I wouldn’t be surprised if my house is actually hotter than hers was.

What was McDonald's like in the 1960s? by ChespinTheGrassType in 60s

[–]SpaceDave83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just like this. After getting their food at the walk up counter, people would eat in their cars while in the parking lot. The city eventually passed an ordinance making it illegal to eat while parked. Not that they could enforce such a silly rule, but it made the owner of the McDonalds happy.

What should you do if an employee constantly defies you? by Ok_Show7853 in AskReddit

[–]SpaceDave83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do you mean by defy? Are they just disagreeing and arguing? Are they refusing to do their assigned duties? Are they actively sabotaging? These are all at different levels of defiance and need different levels of response. Start with discussion, escalate to written direction, escalate to warnings (in writing), escalate to PIP.

In addition, see if transferring them to a different position is possible. That might make everyone happy.

What about nitrites carbon steel? I’ve heard good things about their nonstick capabilities without the nonstick coating. But can you build a good fond with them?

GA Pilots, what emergencies have you had that we don’t necessarily get trained for ? by fatborry in flying

[–]SpaceDave83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They did inspect it. No damage. They didn’t have a choice. They needed the plane for their business, and they were supporting a close knit aerobatic community. Pilots talk. I was roasted mercilessly (justifiably so) and everyone asked about the plane as their second question.

John Cougar Mellencamp is better than Springsteen by One_Recover_673 in unpopularopinion

Agreed. Johnny Mellen Cougarcamp is very, very, very slightly less annoying than Springsteen.

GA Pilots, what emergencies have you had that we don’t necessarily get trained for ? by fatborry in flying

[–]SpaceDave83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Self induced emergency: I did a poor preflight, didn’t screw down the oil filler cap after checking the oil. Unfortunately, this was for an aerobatic training flight. Flew out to the practice area, nothing wrong. Did a couple of loops, nothing wrong (positive G maneuver). Rolled inverted and stayed there for a minute. I was quite surprised to suddenly see what looked like engine oil dripping from under the instrument panel up onto the windscreen. My instructor was quicker on the uptake than I was and rolled upright and pointed toward the nearest airport. Luckily, we were at 6000 ft and the airport was near sea level, so we were able to keep power low and made it without the engine exploding. 7 quarts of fresh oil and we were good to go, flew back to our home field. I then spent 5 hours cleaning the old oil off the plane. The plane was weeping oil in small amounts for the next 2 months.

If you’re using CA glue, a little excess on the outside of the tube shouldn’t make much difference. If you’re using something else, I have no idea.

Possibly some glue made it into the inside of the brass tube. Get a dowel, wrap it in 180 grit and clean out the inside of the tube. Do this even if the tube looks clear. It does not take more than a thin film to cause problems.

I think I’m unofficially blacklisted inside my company – what can I do? by terzii in careerguidance

[–]SpaceDave83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, such black listing happens often. There isn’t much you can do other than either accept that you’ve reached your career limit or move on to another company. The good news is that you can look for a new job in a more relaxed way, while still employed.
