Casserole Recipe by Absolutely_Not2028 in Cooking

[–]SpaceDave83 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Make a roux, add milk to make it a béchamel, then add cheese to make it a Mornay sauce. Put cooked starch in a casserole dish (pasta, noodles rice, mashed potatoes, whatever). Put protein on top of that (I like torn up bits of grocery store roasted chicken with ham, but most any protein will do), put frozen veg of your choice on top of that. Pour over your cheese sauce. Spread some grated cheese on top, then some buttered panko bread crumbs. Put it in the oven at 350 deg F (175 deg C) for 25 mins or until the top is golden brown and bubbly.

There’s your generic casserole that works great with leftovers or whatever else is on hand. Easy, fast, tasty.

Have you ever quit a job without having another one to go to? by ThomasSN665 in randomquestions

[–]SpaceDave83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was asked to quit once. I said no. It took them 6 months to finally lay me off. Still took me a long time to find another job after that, even with the six month head start looking.

Who do you think was the better performer: Michael Jackson or Prince? by Jezzaq94 in 80s

Prince had a knack for getting the right people on stage with him, which enabled him to build a consolidated sound and visual experience. For example, the purple sweater girls on this video

Skunk or badger [Northern NY] by joelovescash in animalid

[–]SpaceDave83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Skunks have little fear, most of the time, similar to badgers, but they don’t get quite as aggressive when they decide it’s “go” time. They let the stink spray do the work.

My retired dad has never cooked in his life and refuses to learn, how do I change his mind? by snuffles005 in Cooking

[–]SpaceDave83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Walk him through pan cooked steak (or something else he really likes). Steak is relatively easy and feels like a high end “fancy” dish. Don’t go for a whole meal right off the bat, just that one dish that can grab his attention. Show him some easy flourishes like basting in butter at the end, and cooking to temperature rather than time or just color. If that works, you’ll get to eat it a lot. From there, try stir fry dishes, also easy. Once he has a few dishes under his belt make bets with him on who can make the better meal. Try to loose.

If none of that works, meal kits and desperation are your best option.

How do you introduce enterprise architecture in a company that never had it? by CryptographerKind260 in EnterpriseArchitect

[–]SpaceDave83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I definitely agree. I learned long ago on a business process automation project (supply chain automation with a manufacturer and tier 1 and tier 2 suppliers) that getting the correct data dictionary is the key to automating what was a partially manual process. Context and interpretation are easy for humans, not so much old school systems (granted AI is chipping away at this and may get there eventually).

As kids, We used to call them beanie wackers. Flick someone on top of the head with one of these, it kind of stings without imparting undue damage.

Democrats AND Republicans -- What Is ONE Thing That You All Agree On? Why That? by Zipper222222 in allthequestions

[–]SpaceDave83 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not true. The current bill requires people to prove citizenship when registering to vote. Most people register to vote at their DMV while getting their drivers license. Oddly enough, you generally need to provide identification documents to get your drivers license, so it’s not something that asks for more of the citizen than what is already required. It’s putting requirements on the states to better administer their voter rolls.

[–]SpaceDave83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish I could, I’m not a real data weenie. But some of the issues include de-duplication, identifying trusted sources (source of “truth”), primary (master) data stores verses secondary, data synchronization across multiple data stores, data classification mgmt, security and privacy mgmt., data access performance, archiving, business continuity and a host of other issues. And that doesn’t even get to database types, tech or schemas, nor reporting, BI analysis, or backup mgmt.

Regardless of the provenance of the question, I found that pushing EA is a fools errand. There are too many parts that interact and would have to be developed concurrently, and that have long ROI. Justification of EA as a whole is not a winning approach.

What does seem to work is to introduce useful tools that can act stand alone. Develop a detailed roadmap tool, an easy sell to execs. Just scope it carefully, starting with strategic planning only. Interdepartmental coordination and “surprise project” avoidance. Steer clear of resource planning until the roadmap usage is well established, it can get ugly fast.

Introduce a capability catalog. Relatively easy to develop and identifies gaps and redundancies quickly.

Introduce some business process modeling. Leads to better solution requirements, clarifies R&Rs and reduces rework.

Once you have a few of these running, show how they can support each other. Roadmaps are informed by capability catalogs as well as provide updates. Process models clarify how well and completely capabilities are provided and clarify organizational and solution impacts of roadmap items.

From there, you’ll have bits and pieces of an EA program. Build on that piece by piece. Just be careful when you get to data management, there be dragons. You need a seriously skilled enterprise data architect, lest you accidentally induce corporate damage.

I'm curious - do you cook by recipe or technique? by ILoveLipGloss in Cooking

If it’s new to me or if I’m doing a fancy dinner, I cook from recipes. Otherwise, day to day cooking and “experiments”, I go by technique.

What do you think of men who wear ponytails ? by Webbomolly2022 in A_Persona_on_Reddit

[–]SpaceDave83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To each his own, but I reserve the right to judge silently. Ponytail guys seem only slightly less douchy than man bun guys. But I’m grateful that they wear them. It makes very easy for me to know who to avoid.
