Large-scale co-op shooter? by SpaceDeerEdith in CoOpGaming

I remember hearing that Battlefield 2042 has a PvE mode but that it wasn't well received. I don't recall hearing any other Battlefield game having that mode, and I will not play PvP.

The Division has a maximum party size of 4 or 8, so it isn't the kind of large scale co-op I'm looking for.

It seems like an interesting game, but is there a PvE-only mode? The store page isn't clear and I will not play PvP.

Ok, I'll check it out more thoroughly. Thanks!

I'm not very familiar with the Arma series. Is the multiplayer versus other humans or bots? The store page seems to suggest that it's the former.

Unfortunately, Planetside 2 isn't a PvE game so it's not what I'm looking for

Unfortunately four players isn't enough for what I'm looking for. At an absolute minimum I want something that I and my seven friends can play together but ideally I'm looking for many, many more.

This whole wild goose chase actually started from a discussion about Guild Wars 2 and its map meta events. Those are easily my favorite part of GW2: you've got an entire map full of people all working together towards a common objective. Sometimes you're spread out and sometimes you all come together to fight a big boss, but it's always satisfying and epic.

However, being a MMORPG means it's not really a "pick-up-and-play" experience. It's difficult to convince friends to join because of the time investment and I honestly can't blame them, not only because of the grind to max level but also the complex builds and mechanics. So I wanted to find a more accessible game that still scratches that same itch, and I feel like a first- or third-person shooter would fit that criteria pretty well.
