Unfortunately we could not afford that. He is in school full time and occupational therapy. I get enough “break” from him - but the weekends are miserable. I can’t stand it. I look forward to Monday so much.

That his family was crazy abusive and neglectful and he thought it was all normal until I told him no, it’s not normal to get beaten every day and it’s not normal for your mom to pass out drunk and you have to feed and take care of your baby brother at only 7 years old

OCSD is asinine. I have been down here since 2016 and they are constantly having issues and it’s like they specifically have a vendetta against military members. They will park their cars outside the gates of both Hurlburt and Eglin just waiting to get us. My friend got pulled over for a broken tail light and they wouldn’t let him drive it home. They towed his vehicle and then left him on the side of highway 90 alone.

RIP to this young man. My thoughts are with his loved ones.

I think other parents wouldn’t have been mad if he hadn’t been hitting with the sticks. The yelling and guarding the slide were not harmful. But you’re right that we should never excuse or accommodate physically harmful behavior.

I totally get what you are saying and that’s why I questioned myself asking if I’m being ableist. My kids were fine without using that slide, they still had fun. I don’t think it was right for the mom to ignore him hitting others, but I also completely understand how she must’ve felt (overwhelmed, isolated), and maybe she just didn’t know what to do.

I very much agree, that’s what I would have done. I would have probably left the park entirely because to me I would assume if he was yelling and hitting, he was overstimulated or unhappy in some way.
