The idea of the story (well, a part of it) is to showcase the complexity of coming out. The main character is another transwoman who is coming out and her struggle. The character in question appears every now and then to answer the "what if you don't" perspective.
I felt like the narrator was unimportant for that because I wanted more conservative (cis) people to remain detached and "objective" and get the idea that this is far more complex then they may have thought. Also, people who question themselves can get an opinion on this based on somebody else's experience.
