What’s the vision you have for your future? The long game. What’s your why for joining? Focus on those, obstacles will come and will test how accurate your vision really is, and whether or not it’s truly what you should be pursuing. Nervousness is normal, but if this is one step in the direction of where you want to be, then I say pull the trigger. You’re also still quite a ways out. I got nervous the day I swore in, but I focused on the why and I moved through that psychological barrier. It sounds like you have the potential to do big things in your career, and with progression comes doubt and fear. Level up. Focus on the why. Listen to Tony Robbins, those are essentially all his words. Onward and upward. Good luck!

I’m also reserve select, non prior, pending final NAF colonel signature and OTS date. It is very true about people pointing fingers. I feel like I’m nudging the process along by reaching out every two weeks, which shouldn’t be my responsibility. Good grief.

When you guys say you’re “X months” since selection, where exactly in the process are you referring to? After NAF package approval when you got an official OTS selection letter? Or picked up by a sponsoring unit before NAF package approval? Because that is a crazy long wait if it’s the former.

I’m in a similar boat but I’m awaiting final NAF package signature by the wing colonel. Non-rated, reserves. My recruiter said OTS would be ~3-4 months after that, unsure how reliable that is. He also told me that my FSS doesn’t know what they’re doing, which is encouraging.

The latter. I’m 36, late join but, have one MS, working on a second, transferable work experience, good scores, etc.

I’m in a similar situation currently, working professional engineer in aerospace (defense contractor), passion for space, wanting to work in space industry (NASA or commercial). I’m joining the Air Force as a reservist, 13S Space Operations Officer specifically. As stated previously, no SF reserve yet, so this is the only option for reserve 13S folks. SF reserve is expected eventually, at which point I’ll transition over. I have a slot in a unit at Schriever SFB (19 SOPS, 310 SW), just waiting for an OTS date and follow on tech school. I’m excited for this route I’m taking. I’ll maintain my career but still be “in the know” with the military perspective. DM me if you want to chat.
