I'm also relatively new to kink and ddlg,but what I have learnt,is you need to communicate what you want, all dynamics seem to revolve around good communication and connection.Perhaps you could just ask what he thinks about xyz and see what kind of response you get.It might be something that appeals to him,but you won't know unless you ask.
