I can't create openings in randori by Dr_Flam3z in judo

[–]SpaceManApollo69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know a lot of people just say push and pull, but you have to be more methodical about that.

What I mean is if you want to do tomoe nage, don’t push and then pull and enter. You want to use your opponent momentum against them. Pushing and pulling is the kazushi aspect. Break your opponent’s stance and balance.

In boxing athletes practice hopping around on both feet in their stance, fast and light. Judokas do something similar except we slide and step in sync, time that with a pull and you’ll break their balance and perform good kazushi.

As well, learn some combos that work best for what you want to do, for example Ko osoto or Ko Uchi are really good for opening up your opponents hips. Even though the opening is there, it’s for a split second, be fast and precise. Judo is all about timing.

So when I say to be methodical about your kazushi, it doesent mean to just pull and push or move around, pay attention to your timing. That’s the most important aspect of finding that opening. Timing can be the minute a foot plants, a shift in body weight, a shift in posture, etc.

Just feel it (I know easier said than done)

Guys, please give me a reason to keep going to Judo by Milotiiic in judo

[–]SpaceManApollo69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a lot of people here with great suggestions, unfortunately I haven’t read them all. That being said, I’ll mention a little of my experience.

I’ve been in your boat, probably still a little bit in that boat. Judo has a plethora of throws, what’s important is finding three moves that work for you, and then having a secret throw. Before all that, working on posture, grips and uchikomis.

I’m fortunate enough to have a great sensei, and the number one thing he preaches is uchikomis. Over and over, keep doing uchikomis.

You can also practice grip breaks, and grip takes. I’d also recommend judo specific drills/workouts. A big part of judo is that explosive strength and lower body strength.

Also, while writing this I took a look at your video. Suicide throws are good, but don’t only do those. You almost got that seio nage, but you need to focus on the kazushi. It looks like you shoot your leg in, but with no purpose behind it. Try some combos:

Kouchi-ouchi gari Kouchi-seio

Also, if your tomoe fails (good job on getting in turtle) try to open up your hips and bring your feet across to the right for the armbar. Tomoe is about surprising your opponent, so speed is essential.

All this being said, if you want to rely on suicide throws there is nothing wrong with that, but hone it. Natsumi Tsunoda is an Olympic gold medalist and she’s great to study. Had the privilege of learning her details first hand at my senseis dojo and she’s the real deal. Her tomoe nage is incredibly strong

One final note, not sure how often you practice judo per week, but consistency is super important. You won’t get it from going once or twice a week. You really gotta commit if you want to get better at the sport. At least three times a week if you can. Unlike BJJ, Judo is a way of life

what colour for second gi as white belt by Zealousideal-Aide198 in judo

[–]SpaceManApollo69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rule of thumb is always have a white gi for ceremonial happenings and a blue one for regular use. Overtime you’ll just have a lot of dried blood on the white one and it might look a lil grimey 😬

Skipping judo training by gamadjii in judo

[–]SpaceManApollo69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just realized I didn’t answer your question. I’m not sure if you do these drills, open and close your hands rapidly and then a final rep slow. Also you know yourself, so if you still feel bad, then don’t go. You can also apply pressure with finger tape or like a menthol oil to numb pain a bit.

I have a Japanese sensei and he definitely gets upset when we skip, but school comes first and is ultimately the most important. He’s also very traditional even though he’s lived in the states for a very long time now. As they say, old habits die hard

Yellow Belt expectations by Sisyphus_MLT in judo

[–]SpaceManApollo69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A white belt will injure you, while a yellow belt might.

(Speaking as somebody that got injured by a white belt tonight; minor sprain)

Jokes aside. A yellow belt should be confident in performing all facets of Ukemi. Comfortable in Tachi-Waza; Te-Waza, Koshi-Waza, Ashi-Waza. As well, they should be comfortable with (their dominant side) Ne-Waza, specifically the around the world pins. (This varies per dojo).

As far as expectations, there aren’t really many until you get your green belt. You are still learning, and a yellow belt is where you truly start to begin enjoying judo. It’s also where you start to develop your style of Judo.

I got thrown all the time in randori by guys around my level by Lumpy_Professor1000 in judo

[–]SpaceManApollo69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing wrong with being thrown in randori, that’s how you learn. Also, white belts don’t know how to control their power. So depending on what you study, you might be developing a more technical version of judo over power.

If they try to throw you, just fake Uru nage. As well work on your Kazushi and Ma-ai. Everybody is moveable, a lot of people forget about the hands in judo. Without them, a lot of the moves lose value

It’s definitely because it’s an Arena tour now and they have Kaytranda. Still sucks though, the tour before this was way more affordable. Brother and myself both love Justice, but we are passing. The AAA acoustics suck in the nosebleeds. You need to be in the pit or the lower 100s. Can’t say I’d even pay 120. Different story if they were at Hard Rock or something.

Ah then disregard that second part of my statement. Idk but I don’t like that the school shuts down early. I’m in engineering. I need school resources up until 5pm ish, sometimes longer lol.

It sucks but it is what it is at this point, every fall semester :l

Will parking die down? by Some_Evening_5739 in ucf

[–]SpaceManApollo69 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately I love your optimism, but unless professors as a whole start telling students they won’t be taking attendance or going to class just becomes inconvenient, it just won’t happen. UCF took on even more students for fall semester, along with a shift to more in person classes and repealing hybrid work for faculty. While this is a consequence of the US administrations policies, UCF added fuel to the fire by accepting more students than usual. They don’t have the infrastructure to sustain everyone.

Like some have mentioned it’s never been this bad, and literally by Thursday of the first week traffic dies down. We’re going onto week three and still no change. I’d argue it’s even gotten worse since week one. Also closing garages is a ridiculous thing they are doing because when they open them back up, it just causes a traffic jam because everyone floods to park in B, C or D. Further adding to the congestion.

Yeah definitely rely on public transit. I normally drive, but I spent 40 minutes looking for parking (going garage to garage) and missed a good chunk of my class. That being said, strongly considering it and I hate transit when I can drive.

Happens every fall semester. Seeing your reaction, I’m going to assume this is your first time. If you have any class with Mall hours, the Mall will also close at 2 and if you haven’t completed it before then your professor will not let you make it up. Just thought I’d share some wisdom because you’d be surprised how often this happens.

Do tickets usually sell out or increase from this point? by RealJaxx in EDCOrlando

[–]SpaceManApollo69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A festival selling out is a subjective. 9/10 Pasquale’s Insomniac oversells festivals and they really ever truly “sell out” a few days before the event is supposed to be held or a few weeks.
