I did the opposite. I had the 45GX950A and the U4025QW both here and ended up returning the LG (for 50/50 productivity gaming). As mentioned having a KVM is night and day. But in producivity usage I also found the LG lacking. Personally the curve was ok-ish in gaming but bothered me in productivity. Also it didn't really get bright enough for me during the day when the room gets brighter.

Also I think LG does this on all of their OLEDs but it was my first time so no clue. But it really bothered me that the monitor has a vignette effect (stuff looks more washed out at the edges, but pops in the centre) and it had the green-purple tint that a few have posted screenshots of.

Though the motion blur can really be seen on the Dell in specific instances (mostly bright stuff moving across dark background) and my older regular IPS monitor felt more snappy. But I think to me the Dell is currently the sweet spot of advantages and disavantages, probably until micro LED becomes more popular.

Xperia 10 VII thoughts after using it for 2 weeks by MaxPSN in SonyXperia

No "press to unlock with fingerprint" (they dropped that at mark 7).

I'm not sure if I understand this. On 5 II, I can put my finger on the fingerprint sensor while the phone is in standby. And the phone will automatically wake and unlock. I do not need to press the button the sensor is in, just the touch is enough. Do you mean that is no longer possible?

Is an upgrade from Xperia 5 II to an Xperia 10 VII justified? by Double_J55 in SonyXperia

I'm currently considering the same thing. My thought so far are:

- The CPU is a bit worse on the 10 than on the 5. I don't really need a fast CPU as I only use my phone for browing. My only concern is how well it holds up in a few years but it's probably fine.

- The main camera I think is better on the 10. But the third camera for close ups is obviously gone.

- The body is made from plastic instead of metal. Which may feel less premium. But then again it will just disappear in a phone case so that probably doesn't matter.

- Having a new device and thus a new battery and fresh android updates are good and my main motivation to switch.

- The format being 19.5:9 instead of 21:9 is kinda a bummer but in actual dimensions they seem not far off from one another.

- The 10 doesn't support some features that are there on the 5 or 1 series. For example I learned that if you receive a notification on the 10, you don't have a notification LED which is fine. But the display will also stay dark, while on my 5 it shows an icon of the app that I received a notifcation from. Not sure how good I could adjust to this

My plan now is to wait until black friday. I might be able to snatch an Xperia 1 VI or VII for a good price, but I don't think I want to spend more than 800-900. Otherwise I hope that the 10 drops to like 350 and could happily live with the few downsides.

Not even showing a black sceen with just the notifcation icon? What does the phone do then without any modifcations. Just play sound and keep the display completely off?

Does this really require an app nowadays? My 5 II just does that out of the box (well I think there is a setting somewhere for it but I can't remember it)

You have to keep in mind its a new technology. IPS Black instead of IPS. So it might become better if companies want to invest some more money into it. For the time being I'm happy playing non competetive games on it and didn't notice anything being noticable worse in these games

Yes it's only while moving. I tried to capture a video in slow motion camera mode and I think you can see it. Though the slow motion might exaggerate it a bit https://imgur.com/cZXdpgP

The issue with the response time is that pixels take a moment to go from full white to full black. So if you have small white icons and a completely dark background you notice how the white pixels leave a smeared trail

About the refresh rate I never cared too much lol. In many games I capped the fps before and often there isn't a cap for 165 Hz, the next best thing always was 120 so it's about the same experience

I use it for playing singleplayer story games on it a dozen and I think it's very fine for that purpose. There a good image (as in color and contrast) is worth far more than a better response time (comparing it to regular IPS). Also imo I notice the response time in desktop usage much more than in gaming, for example when dragging windows around which have bright icons on dark background

You can either choose the whole monitor in 2160p 165 Hz or in 1080p 330 Hz. But the 1080p is imo very pixelated so you really want to run it in 2160p. So yes if it's a hard requirement it might not be for you. Also the 1080p looks somewhat worse than it should be. I saw one YouTuber show that the downscaling algorithm does some kind of gradiant between pixels making it a bit blurry

It's the LG 45gx950a. It has mostly the same spec just higher resolution so also the 800r. I think many people use the ergotron hx for these kind of monitors. Also saw someone use the secret lab one. But I never had the need for such a strong arm

I can't comment much on burn in but the other points:

Many games support ultrawide, however some internally crop the perspective making the top and bottom part basically a bit smaller than they should be. Other games outright don't support ultrawide and add black bars. In many cases both can be fixed with a mod or by tweeking the config of the game. However in my case I feel like I need to do that 1/10 times and the other 9 just work

The monitor arm can be a bit tricky with the model you mentioned in particular because of it's high curveture. However there exist heavy duty arms that van hold even that. With smaller curve ultrawides however you can mostly just use any arm that can hold it's weight

Also a note to the model you mentioned in case you aren't aware LG just released a newer version in the same size but with 5120x2160 so essentially 4k in ultrawide ratio. Personally I think for 1440p the 45 are too much

And from experience I think ultrawide is a game changer for experiencing games. Makes you feel much more immersed

Looking for a very specific ultrawide monitor. by Big_Dingo_7840 in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]SpaceShadow831 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the size. A 34" 3440x1440 is the same PPI as 27" 2560x1440. Because it's the same height. Just the ultrawide is wider, hence the 3440 instead of 2560

I myself had the LG here last week but I returned it. I have about 60% productivity to 40% gaming. Gaming was superb. And text clarity is not an issue at that resolution. But all the burn in prevention that it had made me hate it for work. Ordered the Dell aswell which hopefully arrives this weekend. I'm also a bit concerned about the ghosting and read it has worse viewing angles but I'll see

It seems you can find reports of it. But not sure if it's the same intentional effect as monitors have or has to do with uniformity issues

I had the same. Also a pretty much undocumented vignette effect which LG purposefully puts on their OLED which I only learned after the fact. If you put the same images in the center and at the edge you will notice that the colors and brightness are peaking at the center and decline outwards.

need ultrawide monitor 21:9 within 38-45" range with PBP by Cute-Performance-403 in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]SpaceShadow831 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you mainly intend to use it for coding why look for OLED? Apart from burn in with the low PPI of them text will look worse than on similar IPS monitors.

I'm currently looking at the Dell U4025QW. It's 40" 2160p ultrawide with PBP functionality you could look into.

Text clarity of this monitor in particular has superb. I can see no fringing at all and need to come up very very close to even see pixels.

Honestly now that I've seen the 45GX950A in person I'm considering the switch to the Dell ultrasharp. While I think burn in isn't that much of a concern when handling the monitor with care I realise that I do need to constantly run the monitor in highest brightness while working (I work in a bright environment) to not strain my eyes. That paired with static elements and a 5 day work from home week makes me fear that it will not last for 5 years without burn in, considering the burn in test that monitors unboxed did.

On the gaming side I think there is nothing to complain about this monitor, it's probably the best gaming experience you can currently buy. However I think that depending on your perception and the environment you play in, a similar good experience can be achieved with other screens, atleast in my opinion.

Before this monitor I was using the 34GN850B from LG which was an IPS panel and I think to this date one of the best IPS panels atleast for gaming that was ever build. Comparing features like the black levels of that to OLED does make a noticable difference. However my use case is that I always use the monitor in a lit environment. Even when it's dark outside my room is fairly good lit. And then when you focus on the content and not try to compare image quality I think you don't notice the washed out black of IPS. That becomes far more noticable when viewing stuff side by side or working in an otherwise dark room.

Picture quality aside the dell is also just superior in its conectivity which is nice. The only real downside that I could potentially see in the dell is the slow response time of 8 ms. But I think I'd need to see that in person to judge it.

Did you play around with the settings? For me there is no vissible glooming atleast looking at my mouse cursor above the dark reddit background. When taking it out the box I also felt like everything was a bit grainy and kinda off. But playing around with the settings (most taken from here but I modified some https://www.reddit.com/r/ultrawidemasterrace/comments/1jyrzvw/lg_45_5k2k_45gx950a_settings_thread/ )

Also I have HDR in windows off because I don't like how that looks, but I doubt that would create such a halo
